I still find it incredibly interesting even with the competition over, the SP still appears threatened by Katharine and her talent. There's plenty of room in the music industry for both Katharine and Taylor to be successful. If I were Taylor or the SP, I'd be more worried about the established musical artists that Taylor will be up against. Michael Buble, Rob Thomas, Nick Lachey etc. Michael and Nick get an enormous amount of airplay and media.

He simply declined to comment, thereby avoiding saying possibly negative things about Taylor. It could be argued that he was actually avoiding saying something bad. (Hey, I didn't say it would be a STRONG argument.)

hmmm david seems really upset that Kat didn't win that he didn't even wanna talk about Taylor. Wow, i didn't know he felt so strongly about this. but to get such compliment from him is lke getting a stamp of approval that she is a legitimate singer and a very good one, not just a byproduct of some circus show (what some people think of AI). GO DAVID!

Well, well, well, Kat's got a powerful ally (allie? spelling...), and a creditable one as well. I'm glad for Kat. She should take advantage of this. She also should return the favor. I think Kat was unfairly trashed by Randy, and even by Paula who seldom criticizes anybody but Kat.

You don't get to be a superstar because people are indifferent to you. That goes both ways and it goes with the territory. K. got all of us from AI. Now people like Foster are going to introduce her to the rest of the world. He'll just keep putting her up where people can see and hear her. The magazine layouts are reinforcing that and probably attracting casual viewers who buy them for other reasons (show biz buff, someone else's fan, etc.). As soon as she's been seen on a high visibility show like Entourage (or something like it) she's going to attract another kind of attention. She's got friends in high places and friends in low places. How can she miss?

I guess this means that we CAN read David like a book from the expression he showed in the audience that night of the finale. At first, people couldn't seem to understand what his sour expression (behind David Hasselhoff's tears ) meant. Now, it's either because Taylor won...or he realized he'd have to wait a year to take Katharine under his wing. At least he found out that even 'AI' contracts have loopholes so he could produce one recording for Kat right away without being sued. Well, after all the outrage and overanalyzation I've only given cursory readings to over at the 'AI' board about this situation, it seems those people need to go back and watch a replay. It's another example of watching it casually the first time--and then letting emotion and imagination take over to think he was 'dissing' Taylor. As pointed out by many already, he just didn't want to make comment about Taylor. If he had, the Soul Patrol probably would have made David eat a mouth harp in a dark alley somewhere. People have to understand, also, where David Foster's musical sensibilities comes from. He's worked with all the vocal greats of the last thirty-odd years. He's one of the great proponents of the singers who use their voice as a musical instrument and not just get by with styling. Taylor is from another school that doesn't fit in with anything David's produced. DF has never produced a blues CD or signed an artist that relies more on personality or styling as Taylor actually does as an artist. Not that it doesn't work for him and most of us. And his voice has a great sense of soul, that I suppose could be considered to be a sense of styling. Taylor ISN'T from the school that focuses squarely on the musicality of the voice. Because we really haven't seen a young artist who wants to just focus on what the voice can do--David was obviously floored that one came along. Of course he wants to sign Katharine, even though it's still a mystery what Kat really thinks of him as a producer or mentor. All we need now is for Kat to say on 'The View' next week: "Tommy Mattola? I don't want to talk about him. David Foster's the bomb!" Another great thing about signing with David: Kat could join Foster Childs Michael Buble, Josh Groban, Renee Olstead, et al., to form a new powerful 'team' in the music industry.

I loved watching the interview...WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I knew there was no doubt the night he was on AI...Couldn't miss his comment about Kat's future and if HE thinks there's a future then you can "take it to the bank!!" I was very uplifted by this so thanks for the posting and the clip!! It's hard to hear the negative stuff when you KNOW how awesome Kat is! WOW! David really drew a line in the sand when he said he didn't want to talk about Taylor. I'd love to know what he was thinking and where he is coming from...doesn't he have to work with Taylor??? Anyway...I LOVE KAT and I am so happy for her success...I'm really anxious to see where she goes and really look forward to buying her CD...can't get done fast enough!!!

It surely helps for a McPhan to read such high praises from a renowned composer, producer, artist who certainly is recognized in the business! GregorianCant: your posts are really something to look forward to! I do admit, when the bashing get nonstop at IDF and other boards, I always go here, our McPhan home, and read what you guys have to say about our kat. It surely renews all your hope, faith and love in kat somuch more. Please, do keep 'em coming! Mr. David never rubbed me the wrong way. I have such high regard for him and whatever comments that he gave the Idols, they were only to help them. We do have to blame the EDITING of those segments which made him appear rude. Reading what the other fans have to say regarding this particular issue is laughable. Yes, they are in fact right that the sales do say that Taylor doesnt need David Foster's approval to be the STAR because he already is the star. They all mention that kat's sales are doing really poorly. My comments to them, wait until she comes back to the tour and actually starts promoting her single and when it receives proper radioplay. Kat went MIA for weeks and was then later sick. I have faith in those behind kat, that they will make this happen.

I dont understand where you think kats sales are doing lousy for the situation she was put in they are great this cd no big deal why is everybody focused on that this girl is going to be really big within a year then after idol contract is over, really big things for kat
