I have listened to both of these songs like 20 times now and still LOVE them both!!! They are awesome. She truly has a unique sounds and I think people are going to be blown away by her once they hear these songs on the radio. Great job Kat! (better get your copies now before they sell out - they are truly going to be collector's items)

Upon listening to Somewhere Over the Rainbow again, maybe I slightly underestimated it. It does sound great, and I hope/suspect it'll be a big hit!

Thanks for the post. They're both awesome! I just wish the instrumentals were a little lower.

I have a suggestion. I don't know if they track this at all, but it would not be a bad idea to listen to these songs from the Clear Channel websites in your own local area and not just from the Cleveland link. If they are tracking hits to these songs, it may make a difference as far as airplay goes. Again, I'm not sure if they track at all, but it wouldn't hurt.

The On-Demand Idols thing is on all of the Clear Channel stations. You can find your Clear Channel station here:

I think they worked too much with those songs, but i LOVE them! Haha, I still like Kat on the stage without so much background music though. Go Kat, GO! She sounds kinda different though. Do you think they worked with their voices just a bit? Not saying this in a bad way though.......

both songs sound absolutely wonderful! It's even better than I could have imagined. "Destiny" sounds like David Foster dropped by the studio-it really has his type of production sound. Does anyone know who actually produced the two recordings? I'm interested in learning who is credited for the production.

I've already written so much about the singles over at the 'AI' board--but it's good to have a fresh take before coming to the best Katharine site to make comment.

When initially hearing them last night, I probably paid too much attention to the instrumentals. They were immediately distracting, because we're so used to hearing 'OTR' in a certain way. I also had a knee-jerk reaction to the overproduction of 'MD'...and even suggested that Phil Spector got out of jail to produce the track and inflict his 'Wall of Sound' on the world again.  Despite that, my first-time listen had me being blown away by Kat's unmatched vocal purity.

Fast-forward to this morning--and playing the tracks when I was better rested. That time, I paid attention to Kat's vocals exclusively and was even more floored at the purity of Kat's voice. The backing arrangements worked for me on the second listen. Even 'MD's arrangement was more appealing to me and sounded more balanced between Kat's voice and the instrumentals than the play the night before (maybe because I had the sound down a little more). But, my God, the realization that Kat has the purest voice in the music industry since maybe Ella Fitzgerald (or maybe Eva Cassidy) just made me hit the floor. I even played the singles for some family members later today, and they said they got goosebumps through every second of both songs. They said they still had the same feeling after it was over. My mom heard them and predicted that the single will be huge...and she's almost always right in her predictions of things like this.

All said, we're witnessing one of the greatest voices of our generation blossoming before our eyes and ears. Kat's voice is just a dream for me and haunts me constantly. I can't think of anybody I'd rather listen to in female voices who are alive today. Mariah, Christina, Shania, et al, may have higher ranges, but they don't have the special purity Kat has. It's a once-in-a-lifetime type of voice that nearly has to take you into metaphysics in order to analyze how magical it is.

If either 'OTR' or 'MD' don't hit #1 by the Fourth of July--then something is wrong with the world. It'd be a great celebration of this country and one of our greatest artists if that happened.

By the way, did you notice that Kat didn't belt the last note of 'OTR?' Somehow, it still works with her downplaying it a bit. But it's proof that the producers told her not to give any signs of these having any Broadway or Cabaret feeling. Nevertheless, it's the most meaningful pop music I've heard in a long time...all thanks to Kat's voice and styling alone.

No doubt, for those that just LOVE pure, clear, clean, silky smooth vocals, Kat is about as good as it gets and I think both or either of these songs could be strong on the charts. Now certainly there are people who prefer some rasp or some twang or other vocal effects thrown their way from their singers of choice but Kat's voice to me is just SO pleasing and I am really excited to see how these songs actually play out in the marketplace.

I couldn't have said it better myself. This is a beautiful post as it captures the essence of Katharine's voice and why it is so special. It's pure and raw and when she sings....it's as if she's simply speaking in song, almost as if she can't open her mouth and not sing. You're right...It's indescribable. She has the most natural singing voice I've ever heard in my life. Fluid but peircing at the same time. Her vocals a true gift, not the work of Peisha Mcphee.

Well, I can't say it as beautifully, so I'll just put it this way: her voice is magnificent. I'd pay a million dollars to listen to her sing a Chinese take-out menu.

It doesn't get any better than that. ;-)

I cannot stop listening to "Over the Rainbow". I've grown content with the changes in the arrangement, and I absolutley love and adore it.

"My Destiny" sounds great, too. I don't really think it could sound better than what Kat did with it.
