Catch Kat in The House Bunny in theaters nationwide NOW! fandango.com
I luved watching this show. In my area it was repeated at least THREE times and in HD. I had fun watching Kat especially at one shot, her pointing at G W and the camera catching him smile back at her with his two little nieces? smiling too at the end of her performance.
And how about that.. Kat OPENED the show. The audio on many of the performers didn't appear to be the best but Kat shown above that. Sometimes the choir seem to dominate over her vocally. And no question compared to Vanessa and Ne-Yo, and Colbie(least impressive) Kat performed well. I was concerned about Kat following the brilliant Andrea Bocelli who I recently saw in concert with Heather Headley in San Jose, but our Kat pulled it off and performed "OCOYF" well.
Again, BIG SHADY, DIFF, PHEE, CRB, blessings on ya!!! Now, back to my tivo for another look.
I also, noticed the President turn to the First Lady after OCAYF, and say something like "that Kat is good".......as if we didn't know!!!
My only "petty" question is: why do the performers hold the mike so close that you can't appreciate the singer's full countenance? Just a pet peeve of mine and nothing against Katharine. She shined like the star she is and to me, seemed the most relaxed and warmest performer there! Even Bocelli seemed rather uneasy.....probably just my imagination working overtime!
Moms4Kat, you beat me to it – the mic pet peeve, and I agree 100%. If someone in the loop could please pass this on to Kat, I'm sure we ALL would greatly appreciate it. First, is it really necessary to have a mic windscreen INDOORS the size of a baseball... lol... ??? Second, my guess is the mic would be just as effective if Kat simply held the mic just a few inches lower so as not to cover up her mouth from nearly every camera angle, especially if the mic is fitted with a baseball-sized windscreen! Otherwise, GREAT to see Kat getting such super exposure last night! I wasn't quite sure if the end of OCAYF was quite the way she/they planned, as it seemed like a slightly weak ending musically and/or vocally to me, but overall, very nice job indeed! Oh, and I thought Vanessa looked stunning and sung pretty well also!
Live performances are very difficult to reproduce properly. With the type of mic that they were using, it was necessary to have such a large windscreen so the audience wouldn't come through the performance drastically. The sensitivity of the mic determines how closely a performer has to hold the mic in order to be reproduced properly. This was all discussed in great detail, I am sure, at the rehearsal, as all the performers were using similar techniques with the mics. Not all mics are created equal and that is why a sound check is necessary for events like this.
A high sensitivity mic would not have been appropriate as the audience sounds would have almost certainly caused undue noise or feedback. Sure, it isn't always visually appealing to see a performer "eat the mic", but with the equipment they had, it was necessary.
That was quite sweet. I like the happy side of George W. he was be-bopping along to the music and seemed to really enjoy himself. Who were the kids to his right? The one young girl was pleased as punch after "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," with Katharine, Ne-Yo and Vanessa Hudgens - I'm sure she's a big high school musical fan!
Also, Vanessa's from Salinas, so she's a Cali native too, and I could see the warm and fun vibe between Kat and Vanessa - go my Cali Girls! My nieces and nephews will love the fact that Vanessa and Kat sung together!
Not a problem, "goodyatlanta", not a problem at all. In fact, I was also familiar w/ the "situation" w/ NBC that you mentioned w/ that "Thank the Troops" ad. I was glad that the organization involved, (which I'm also familiar with), got the situation resolved to their satisfaction.
I only mention the "non-political" thing because certain members out here tend to get their "feathers ruffled" a bit if you happen to express a "political" opinion that they can't tolerate. So, we've pretty much agreed to try our best to keep KMF as non-political & non-confrontational as we can, and just be happy knowing that - no matter what our political feelings are - we're ALL very strong supporters of Kat & her "Journey to Stardom"!
Oh, and I'm from Minnesota, if that's what you were asking. (Brrrr!!!)
Thanks GB! I knew you would be able to explain the situation!
Sure, anytime... It happens to me all of the time, in the event I ever sing at an event. Almost without fail, someone comes up and asks me why I was practically eating the microphone!!!! Ha Ha.
I usually respond by saying... "Sorry, it's the only thing that's on my diet right now"
I loved Kat's performances of course but I am that she didn't get to sing her entire version of OCAYF! IMHO...too much of Vanessa Hudgens and NOT enough of Kat. But I did think it was awesome that the program began with her and hearing her sing in that low register was amazing...her voice was sultry and smooth (I've never heard her sing in that range). And...am I crazy when I say that VH voice was not that great and she hit some sour notes and sang a bit through her nose. I have a really sensitive ear and I must say she wasn't "all that" as she has been built up to be. Anyway...JMO
I agree with you a3boymom, Your not crazy because I didn't think VH was that good either. It doesn't take a genius to notice that she wasn't on her game that night. I know she has a pretty face and all but she needs the voice and that night she didn't have it. I'm not trying to bash her but I think people exaggerate when they say she was the "Female Artist of the Year" which Kat was nominted in that category and didn't win. Obviously on the Special, Kat beat out everybody with excellent stage presence. Even Andrea, he was as stiff as a board singing his first song, it made it hard to watch. I think Kat and Heather Headly were probably the only real good performers of the night and Bush seemed to make some interesting gestures and expessions after Kat sang, the opening number and "O Come All Ye Faithful"
It wasn't the best Christmas Special but enjoyable because Kat was there.
Next is the special for Christmas Day!

Another version of O Come All Ye Faithful that showed up in my google alerts today. There just isn't a single angle at first without that microphone in her face, but it sounds good. And The Pres looks really happy about it all. See, he and I can agree about something.
Big Shady did full caps of the opening and closing medleys and you can find them in this thread at IDF:
http://idolforums.com/index.php?showtopic=532153
BTW, some of the links are scattered through the thread so check all the pages, there are only three pages as of now.
As far as caps of her solo songs are concerned, perhaps a Vanessa Hudgens board of some sort or maybe a celebrity picture site like Superior Pics.
A little silly to put up previews after the show, but I know at least 1 person wanted the Sinatra story and lead-in to the Xmas in Washington story on ET.

Here is an HQ DivX streaming (and downloable) version at Stage 6 if anyone wants to see it in quality better than YouTube.

If you have the DivX web media player installed you can right click and play it right here at KMF, for an idea of the HQ of this file toggle the video into full screen mode and take a look see. To quote Borat, "NICE!"
Thanks to Big Shady for the HD source material.
Here is the other Kat performance video, namely This Christmas through Santa Claus I Coming To Town (if you want a file without Ne-Yo and Vanessa solos, get diff's edited files in his post below), in streaming (and downloadable) HQ DivX at Stage 6, I ran the bitrate slightly lower than the last one to keep it from being so large, it still looks great.
Again props to Big Shady for the HD source.

ok I'm lazy this is mostly a copy/paste
I think I've solved this musical riddle of a medley. How to get from X key (G?) of TC to Y key (Bb?) of SCICTT without ear whiplash. (Someone correct me on the keys. I'd like to learn) New Audio remix! With apologies to Vanessa and Ne-Yo fans (but not much feelings of guilt), I've removed their individual songs from the opening medley This Christmas + Santa Claus is Coming to Town St. Nick's Remix www.divshare.com/download/3129209-524 This remix has the announced intro of Ne-Yo taken out but musically it's a more jolting jump to SCICTT www.divshare.com/download/3129210-471 Enjoy! Keep checking this thread. I'll make vids to go with it (HD and smaller version) but it could be awhile. VIDEO remix of first medley Ne-Yo and Vanessa's songs edited out. The audio edit is the same as above. This Christmas / Santa Claus Is Coming to Town High Def*, 393MB http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZDNQKIMG High Q 720x400 AVI, 92MB www.divshare.com/download/3136466-46b Small 320x176 AVI, 21MB www.divshare.com/download/3136467-ab7 *Only less than a 1/2 second of HD video was reencoded. The rest of it is unaltered High Def 1080i.
The video edit point is 5 frames later than the audio edit point because having the video go from extreme farshot to closeshot to extreme farshot in 1/6 of a second was distracting from a composition point of view. Not because of the subjects edited out.
(Don't let the acronym in the filenames fool ya. )
And not a word of thanks for the person who told you where to look for that video? Hmmmm, very interesting. I'll remember that!
I'm kidding, of course, but I'm pretty sure Big Shady would want these links here too and just didn't get over to post them. It is broken into five chunks, download all five and unzip them in the same directory and then join them with HJSplit.
This is the full final montage with all performers.
