First here is the text of the article, I couldn't find a way to get it as a text file so I keyed it in by hand. ( Honestly, I don't know if anyone else gives a rat's ass about this.) I now have carpal tunnel syndrome and am typing with my nose. On a soundstage inside Sony Studios, a group of dudes are bopping their heads and tapping their feet to a song about…open-toed pumps. It’s not a sight you see every day. But the song’s forcible funk beat, with synths vaguely reminiscent of Cameo’s ‘Word Up’ is too much to resist – despite lyrics like, “I can wear them all day and listen to the click-clack/ Shoes like this make me hate flats” If anything, the scene at Katharine McPhee’s Sessions taping proves that all those ‘American Idol’ bloggers last season were right: McPheever does exist, and no one—is immune. With a new, self-titled album helmed by a formidable team of producers, Katharine is ready to slip into her open-toed shoes and click-clack away from her ‘American Idol’-runner-up tag. But “McPhans” (sic) may be surpised by what they hear. Unlike on ‘Idol’, where dewy-eyed renditions of classics like ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ and ‘Come Rain or Come Shine” became her trademark, McPhee’s debut CD updates the 22-year-old’s flawless voice with more current Pop fodder, somewhere between Christina Aguilera and the Pussycat Dolls. It’s not your grandmother’s music. “I always wanted to make a fun, young pop Record that has a little bit of an R&B, soulful thing,” she explains. “I think the way I approached ‘American Idol’ was, ‘What song … is going to be the best song that shows America that I can sing?’ I didn’t look at it, like, ‘OK, I better pick a current pop song so that people know this is the kind of record I want to make.” To help develop her sound, Team McPhee Recruited Timbaland protg Nate “Danja” Hills, Whose credits include Nelly Furtado’s ‘Promiscuous’ and Justin Timberlake’s ‘My Love’ Songwriter Kara DioGuardi (Kelly Clarkson, Ashlee Simpson), R&B stalwart Babyface and Chad Hugo of the Neptunes also contributed tracks to the record. Woodshedding with so many heavyweights, McPhee says, taught her “to be confident … and trust in [herself].” “[Recording an album] was all new to me,” she says, “I’d never been in a recording studio before. It was just so fast. We were all throwing out ideas, just spitting them out. They definitely reassured me that I was doing a good job. But they also let her know when she’s not up to snuff. After a couple of shaky takes of ‘Each Other’ (which bears a strong resemblance to Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together”), McPhee Looks at Danja for feedback. “Sing it again” he replies. This time she nails the lyrics and cadenza. McPhee’s clearly more comfortable singing her new single, ‘Over It.’ Adopting a vally-girl voice, the singer bats her eyelashes and chirps, “I’m so, like, over it,” before launching into the power ballad. Over It was presented to McPhee towards the end of the recording process, but its soaring chorus quickly became an indelible moment on the record. “It’s one of those songs that’s always stuck in your head,” she says, “You’ll never, ever, ever, ever be able to say ‘I’m over this,’ You’ll always break into song. At least that’s what I do, but I’m a dork like that.” It’s been a long day for McPhee, and there are Definitely moments where the singer blow off a little steam. After getting the cue to do another take of ‘Not Ur Girl’, the band tries out a manic reggae version. Suddenly, McPhee’s spinning around on her stool, high-kicking the air. Shoes (closed-toe, ironically) come off and headbanging commences. If Simon Cowell could see her now, McPhee’s energy is almost supernatural, Considering the grueling schedule she’s had. The week began with her album release (debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard charts), a video shoot for ‘Over It’ and an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show” back in her hometown of L.A. Here in New York, she’s already made appearances on ‘The Today Show’, ‘Live with Regis and Kelly,’ MTV’s ‘TRL’ and the Red Dress Fashion Show. You’ll never hear her complain, though. After months spent singing in America’s flashiest karaoke competition, the freedom to perform her own songs her way is still a novel concept. “I have been having so much fun doing all the TV Shows this week,” McPhee says, “I’ve actually not been as nervous as I thought I would be because there’s just such a difference singing your own material. It’s free because it’s your song and you get to create it how you want it to be. At least Randy [Jackson] can’t be, like, ‘I don’t know dog, you shouldn’t be singing Whitney Houston’ or something. “It’s like, don’t worry – I won’t sing it anymore.” Yeah, cause she’s got her own hit record now. I only downloaded on AVI file to see if it worked with the player I use...and it does work but the left hand side of the picture has lines all over it?? Just wondering before I download the others if its supposed to be like that, or is it something else? Thanks

If you aren't using VLC or Media Player Classic then I recommend them. Which file did you have a problem with, I'll see if I have the same problem.

Remember that you have to use IE in order to get the AOL stuff to work right. They still (after all this time) suck-up to Microsoft's IE rather than the more logical Firefox. Even with IE, though, you sometimes have to download the Active X control plug-in in order to get their media player to work right. But it worked fine for me right on AOL itself on IE. You can play the videos all together if you select 'Play All' on their main page. The Behind-the-Scenes thing is pretty short--but you have to click on that separately in order to view it. And the Q&A is a little confusing to access. I had to press on the #8 in order to get to the page where they show the text questions. The videos all played together...except for the last one where I had to press 'Play Clip' under the text. I have no idea what happened there...so watching through the downloads here will obviously be better for many. This, 'Ellen' and all the other upcoming promotions should make Kat's album shoot back up the charts in the third week I'd think. It's probably just in time, too, in order to stop the runaway train of people thinking it's not going to sell well. Kat did need a little breather after that first week of media rather than doing all these day after day after day. But I guess that goes to show that you need to be constantly in the press daily in order to keep album sales up...especially during this lethargic time of year. AOL made a big difference in Kat's pre-sales at Amazon last month though. There's no reason why these performances shouldn't move people to go out and buy the album...despite the reality of these performances being better than the studio cuts in my opinion. Thanks to the media team...we can save these on a DVD... Kat's utterly brilliant on taking a song and figuring out what to do with them to take them to a higher level. And now we know that spur-of-the-moment band rehearsals can sometimes bring on the perfect band. Now I think Kat's band is one of the best around right now and right in tune with her performing style. I didn't think that in the beginning. But they should have a blast playing some of those songs live when they finally tour. That drummer is lucky getting to play all those cool grooves in the backbeat of 'Open Toes'...and he looks like he knows he's lucky to be there.

I'm not sure I'd say "Each Other" is the standout. I think it wins the Most Improved Award from the CD version though! Love Story wins the Most Like The CD version award. I think Home is the best because of the emotion she gave it. But they are all great. I hope a lot of people see this and buy the record because of it. This was a great thing for her to do. And having the interviews with the band was cool as well. Jaco's ready to tour the world with Katharine. Woooo!

These files are up at IDF and here at KMF and, thus far, you are the only one to report this line issue. You might want to try to redownload that file and/or grab another one and see if the problem persists. I'm adding mp3 audio files to the OP if anyone wants the audio of the songs.

She had been using a shorthand explanation - "I'm not as innocent as I appeared on AI" - that left people scratching their head wondering what sort of not-innocent, Lohan-type mischief she might be up to when all she meant to convey was that she isn't as reserved as she appeared to be. She must have hooked up with her high school Composition teacher after the Kimmel Show and worked on message control. Way to go, Kat, you brainiac...!

You might try updating to the latest version of divx codec via the divx.com website but that is a long shot. Usually codec issues result in no picture at all and not what you are describing. You may want to just get the flv version and the flv player. At least you'll have them and be able to play them, hopefully without the problem you are having.

kat is getting to skinny, all songs were wonderful, her control of her voice is awesome, it is really hard to keep up with a song like open toes, she is getting better and better, she has a awesome voice, I predict the best is yet to come, I am going to make her some pasta, her face is so beautiful, this girl could turn into a goddess on the big screen, check it out speilberg, she has the voice and the mug!
