Hi everyone, I'm new not only to this board but to American Idol this year. Since I'm mainly a movie buff, I really don't watch much TV, so I hadn't paid much attention to AI until this year. However, the movie schedule early this year was pretty darn dull. For that reason, among others, I decided to check AI out, and lo and behold, I was hooked but quick. And I picked a heck of year to get sucked in, having found Kat. It goes without saying that I'm a fan of Kat's for her lovely voice. But there's another reason she appeals to me. She, like me, has an affinity for "classic" material well beyond her years. I'm 35 years old, but when I was in high school in Ohio in the late 80s, I was always known as the kid who loved the Beatles, even while everyone else was listening to Duran Duran, Def Leppard and the like. When my interest in movies ramped up, I found myself particularly loving old classics like "The Wizard of Oz" and "Singin' in the Rain," starring one of Kat's Idols, Gene Kelly. So you can imagine how pleased I was to hear Kat absolutely soar on older songs like "Come Rain or Come Shine." I absolutely melted at her rendition of "Someone to Watch Over Me" and as for "Over the Rainbow," well, you had to scrape me off the wall after that one! ;) Seeing all the vicious and juvenile attacks on her made me bristle. As someone with a disability (a mild case of cerebral palsy) I know how it feels to be misjudged for outward appearances, and hearing such criticism only made me support her all the more. I'm not at all upset she didn't win. Sure, it would have been great, but I actually think it's better for her this way, if for no other reason that it makes it easier for her to realize her dream of being in the movies and on Broadway...something I'm all for! I greatly look forward to what Kat has in store for us, and to mingling with you all! Regards, Eric (SirCritic)
