3-8-06 This letter is to show support for Katharine. I will write it to her in first person, in case she does ever read these. I am 32 years old and have only been a major fan of 3 people in my lifetime, this to say that I don't follow every person or new talent who comes along. Those 3 have been actress Aileen Quinn who starred in the original "Annie" movie in 1982, then actress Kate Winslet from the movie "Titanic" in 1998 (although I followed all of her work after "Titanic" and above all admired her talent and genuineness in all of her work), and now you after having seen you on American Idol. When you auditioned the first time, I felt as though you would definitely be among the final contestants on the show and was pleased to see you were. I guess what I want to say most here right now is that in reading the questionnaire answers on the American Idol website for the Top 24 contestants this season, your response about the toughest obstacle you've had to overcome amazed me, and I was so glad to see that someone in the current forefront of talent would be so honest about that. Your answer to that being that it was in overcoming personal insecurities, I can completely relate to that and am just so proud of you for working on whatever they might have been and being willing and honest to share that. Most of us live our lives with our insecurities. Watching you on tv, I would never guess you'd ever had an issue with anything like that since you exude self-confidence and a belief in who you are. I think that was proven well when after you sang "All Is Fair In Love" during week #2 and the judges weren't that impressed with the song, your response was simply "I don't feel destroyed." To me, that shows you do believe in yourself and do not have to worry about what everyone else thinks. I struggle with that myself and have been working on overcoming it. I'm just proud of you for all of that. You do show amazing talent as well, but I'm sure you know that. The fact that you can be funny and silly and just comfortable with yourself at the same time is also so refreshing, so keep that up! Above all, may I encourage you to always respect yourself and remain genuine in who you are and in what you do, and it will show through. That is what counts. So congratulations and blessings to you! I hope to see you right up there in the top of the final rounds in May! Sincerely, Leah
