OK, so here's your thread for Season 10. Let me know if you want to play. I'll go try to find a few people on my own too. We've still got a few weeks before we really get going. I believe the first live show is February 23. Not 100 percent about that. I heard they might be going straight to the Top 12 this time so I'm not sure how they'll get from Hollywood to Top 12 and still finish in May when they usually do...guess we'll see! |

Ha, yeah they apologized for it and then they've used it about five times since. It was something about effing a duck and seeing what happens. Or whatever it was.
Turns out I may have been wrong about the first live show. My TV Guide is showing that February 23rd is something about singing Beatles songs in Las Vegas. I did read something about them getting to a Top 40 and then still sorta being in audition mode but letting America pick the Top 12 or something like that. I don't know. I do remember reading Nigel saying that he wanted to get rid of the in between stage because those people aren't really that good anyway. He got rid of the stage (in a way) on SYTYCD by only having 10 finalists last year (which I'm still unsure of if I liked or not).

Here's what I gathered is our format for this year. The two shows this week are going to get us down from 168 to 40. Then next Wednesday the Top 40 are going to perform Beatles songs in Vegas...on Thursday, they'll announce the Top 20 who will be on the usual live shows. So instead of having a Top 24, it'll only be 20 this year. So instead of a Top 12 Girls & Boys week live...it'll be the Top 40 thing. I guess that's OK. Takes a week out of our pool though!!! |

So impressed with JLo...as I was when she was a mentor.The woman really puts all her attention on the performances.....but what sets her apart is her tremendous heart and empathy for those kids.I've always admired her acting skills,but kudos to the person.
After watching this Clint guy,who had the audacity to kick this poor young fellow from his Hollywood week group,I am certainly hoping he gets his a$$ kicked off the show asap.What a hurtful thing to do! |

I haven't seen the other 19 contestants be revealed yet so I'm avoiding any comments here so if you asked me a question...I'll get to it in a day or two. I have no idea what we're doing this week since my TV Guide is saying that we're doing Top 24 this week (which we knew) but then it says on Thursday we're going to announce the finalists and the judges are making wild card picks or something. Not sure if that means we're going straight from 24 to 12 or what.
Anyway...from what we've seen so far I think this is going to be a really great season. Does anybody agree with me that it seems like the best thing that has happened to Idol was Simon leaving (Kara & Ellen too)?!?!? I did not think that was going to be the case at all. |

Agree,Joe....this season's judges definitely have more heart !Definitely do not miss Ellen!

Not to divulge my great strategy but my favorites so far are Karen & Pia. I like some of the guys too but a guy CANNOT WIN FOR THE FOURTH STRAIGHT YEAR plus I always root for the girls anyway. |

I saw Peisha several times during the prep for the Beatles show, but she didn't even get her name on the screen like some other vocal coaches. I thought Ryan might give her a voice over shout - out but nothing. Do we know if she will continue to be on it every week (behind the scenes)? Or did they just bring on extra help to prepare 40 kids for Vegas? |

Peisha tweeted that she was working with the Top 24 so I'm pretty sure she'll be around all year.
OK, so I just saw a commercial for this week's Idol and yes we are indeed going from Top 24 right to 12 this week. So here's what you'll need to do before Thursday's results show. Just give us...well I assume it'll be 6 guys & 6 girls...unless Ryan tells us something differently about the makeup of the Top 12...yeah just give us your Top 12 (in no particular order...we'll get to ordering them next week). You'll get one point for each correct Top 12er. OK? Thanks! |

According to my understanding, this week should be Top 13, 5 guys and 5 girls plus 1 wildcard from EACH of the judges picking from the remaining 14. 12 guys perform on Tue, 12 girls on Wed, and the final results for the Top 13 on Thurs.
I'm very pleased with the Top 24. This year the talents are quite even spread among the contestants. It should be a fair and close game for everyone. I think AI had definitely made a big step toward the right direction. Love the new judges, especially J-Lo. I'm not a fan of her before but now, she had shown that she deserves my respect. As for my favorite? One girl clearly stood out and caught my attention - Pia Toscano. I love her voice and I predict she would go very far.

Haha, yes you get to see everyone perform first. You give us your picks before Thursday's results show.
So it'll be 13? They said from 24 to 12 on the commercial though! Although that does make sense given that if they went to 12...they'd come up a week short from the usual schedule. So 5 girls, 5 guys and 3 wild cards? OK, so we'll go with that.
Alright so everyone pay attention! Anybody who wants to play with us can (of course!)...just give us those 5 girls, 5 guys and your three wild cards before the results show airs on Thursday in your time zone (I trust nobody cheats). If one of your 5 girls get in with the wild card it'll count the same. Got it? Good!
And yes Pia Toscano is my favorite too so far. |

WOW!
I've been a fan of this show for many years,but can honestly say I've not seen a top 12 group as talented as this one!I'd say the majority of these guys took the stage like seasoned pros on their first live show!
It will be really tough to choose only 5... 
Being redundant .....but I must say....JLo is a total revelation as a judge!Love her comments/insights.What a contrast to the inane judges like Ellen and Paula.......... |

Even though I'm sure everyone understood what I meant yesterday...here's a sample of what you need to do between the end of tonight's Top 12 Girls show and the results/wildcard show tomorrow night.
Top 5 Girls: Name five female contestants
Top 5 Guys: Name five male contestants
3 Wild Cards: Pick your next three
Like I said it doesn't matter if your wild cards get picked by America or your Top 5ers get picked by the judges...I'm just doing that for format reasons (easier for me to keep track!). Thanks!!!! |

The girls didn't quite knock it out of the box like the boys did, imo, and I'm partial to the girls. I can see why Pia is the front runner, but she wasn't the best for me tonight. I thought Kendra, who performed third so not high on the producers list, stole the best performance of the night. Julie had been my favorite but she was VERY disappointing tonight.
On with it. In no particular order:
Top 5 Boys: Casey, Jacob, Scotty, Paul, James
Top 5 Girls: Kendra, Lauren A., Pia, Thia, Ashthon
Judges' Wild Cards: Brett, Lauren T., Robbie
Actually, factoring in first night jitters, I would pretty much be happy with any thirteen. Because this isn't MY top 13. Doh - I just changed THREE choices! LOL Well whatever, last place here I come! |

Hmm...KMF doesn't seem to like this version of Internet Explorer I'm using. It's only letting me use the quick reply box. We'll see how I can work around that one. Anyway! My thoughts/picks on this week!
Well...the girls freakin' rock!!!!!!! About time! I've endured the last two seasons without much to enjoy on the female side and it's been painful. I appreciate the guys and all but you know it's just not...anyway.
OK, so my picks.
Guys: James, Scotty, Stefano, Jacob, Casey
I think this is pretty easy because about half of the guys struggled. The only other possibilities in my mind are Robbie and Paul but I wasn't knocked over by them. I feel good about these five guys getting to the Top 13.
Girls: Kendra, Karen, Thia, Lauren A, Pia
This is really difficult but those are my first five. The only ones of the twelve I crossed off from contention were Tatynisa, Rachel (who I liked more than the judges did) and Julie. So that leaves me with Ashthon, Haley, Lauren T and Naima for wild card spots.
Wild Cards: Ashthon, Haley and Robbie.
I want to go with three girls but I think they'll take two girls and a guy. So there you go! Again it doesn't matter if these people are wild cards or not. Pick 13 people and you get one point if they are still around next week!

Couple of babbly thoughts about the girls because I'm so excited that we've got a lot of good girls who wear dresses, makeup and do up their hair. Haha.
Kendra surprised me. I was not planning on picking her before I watched the show. Karen was great. I thought she did a perfect job balancing the Spanish & English. Like I said above, I liked Rachel but I think it was mostly because I enjoyed how much she changed up a song I've always wanted to hear Katharine sing. Anyway...I think Randy was crazy wrong on Haley and I hope she gets through. Thia was very impressive...nice to hear someone sing without overdoing things! Lauren A...I was not a fan of her in the run up because she's a bit obnoxious (or seemed to be...could be her age) but she was excellent! But then the star of our show was PIA TOSCANO! Jennifer Lopez talks about the goose pimples all the time and that doesn't happen to me often but it did with Pia tonight. That was super fantastico. She was my favorite coming in and she did nothing to change that tonight.
Oh, the guys? Umm...Jacob has an crazy good voice. Loved Casey's craziness. I think Scotty will last a long time because of his country stylings and he's a cute guy so...I don't like James but he was good. And then Stefano was just cool. That's all.
I think I feel good about picking a Top 7 already! I think there's seven potential winners in this group but I'm on the Pia bandwagon so I already know who my #1 ballot spot is going to. Oh, I'll mention this again after the results recap just in case nobody is making it this far with this post...
We're going to wait until after next week to do ballots. Give everyone a chance to see the Top 12 twice before making those big decisions! I think that's fair. OK? That's all for now. Oh, the results for this week will probably get posted a little later than usual. Sorry about that but I thought I'd warn you ahead of time! |

I don't read the earlier posts before I do mine because I don't want to be influenced by anyone else but...you really thought the guys were better?!?!?!? The first five of them did nothing for me and maybe that skewed my overall opinion because they didn't set the mood real well. Granted, I kept the next seven in contention to advance so I do think it's a solid group but the girls are much better!
Regardless, the best part is that it's going to be an excellent group advancing to next week. This could be the best season since Season 5. And yes the trade of Kara & Ellen for Jennifer is a big plus and I'm still stunned that I don't miss Simon. Well just having only three judges by itself is a major plus. |

Great array of talent making for tough choices!Amazing stage presence for most of the contestants.Interesting that Randy's take on many performances was so directly opposite to JLo's and Steven......some passionate debates!
It's all about who has the intangible"IT"factor that Kat had in spades....

I read somewhere last night...that tonight they'll have the Top 10...then next week, the other 14 will perform, and 2 from that will be selected as a wild card to make up the Top 12. Then the show will progress as usual. Don't know if that's right...just sharing what I recently read. Thanks for making the pool again, Joe. xo

Word for word, I'm in total agreement with you, Joe. I enjoy the girls last night so much more than the guys. The hard part about picking the guys is that they are so different in style to the extreme. How can you compare Scotty with Casey or James given that they are all good in their genre? The girls are easier to pick since they are more or less along the same style and it's pure vocal competition.
Oh.... my girl Pia, did not disappoint. In fact, I'm still getting goosebumps listening to her again this morning. She reminds me of Kat singing SIFFY in the first round. Finally, after 5 years, I can now say I have found a Kat's rival. I'm in love with this girl.
The only thing I'm not fully agree with you Joe is with the judges. I love the judges before this week seeing their compassion, honesty, and professionalism. But this week, I'm a little disappointed, more toward Steven and JLo. They seem to like every performance and everything is beautiful. Randy is more truthful pointing out some of the obvious flaws of the contestants. I hope they don't continuously do that. They were hired as judges, not as comforters although I do appreciate their kind and compassionate styles. |
