Any clue if this will still be on Mondays after The Voice when The Voice moves to the fall?

Barlo, no idea yet. We'll probably learn something more solid when NBC does its Upfronts presentation May 14.

Sorry, been busy lately but here are last night's ratings in Boston.

HH

5.0 rating 9 share third behind NCAA and Castle

18-49 demo

2.3 rating and 7 share also third.

I will be very interested to see what the national numbers are with strong competition.

I just looked, as I seem to be up eaerly this morning, but nothing was up on tvbythenumbers yet. All I could find was stuff dated 3/12 for some reason.

Smash-03/12 NBC 2.40 3.40 1.00 41.7%

Okay, I guess that's the most recent we get. That week's ep went from 2.4 to 3.4, an increase of 41.7%, which sounds pretty good. Now if I could just find this week's...

Okay, here's all I could find. I think basketball skewed things somewhat and they don't have numbers for that.

10:00 ABC Castle 2.2/5 12.06
NBC Smash 2.2/5 6.09

How did Castle get double the viewers and half the ratings? I guess this is just talking about the 18-49 group? Hope a lot of folks had their DVR's going.

Castle got a lot of older viewers. Probably the Hawaii 5-0 crowd as CBS skews old.

Even iwht stiff competition Smash went up compared to last week so that's a good sign. Plus it is staying in the 2's so its all good.

Groucho, if I understand your question correctly, 2.2 is the demo rating, 5 is the share for the 18-49 age group. The 12.06 is the number of total viewers in millions (ie, 12.06 million). And as uplink said, Castle has a lot of older viewers compared to Smash, similar to Harry's Law which gets like 8 million viewers but only a 1 or so in the 18-49 demo (which is really bad). BTW, that 2.4 to 3.4 that you mentioned seems to be the Live + 7 Day DVRs ratings.

10:00 ABC Castle 2.1/5 11.69
NBC Smash 2.1/5 6.03

They updated to this. Everybody slipped a little. And I misspoke, I meant "same" not "half." I was looking at the total viewer numbers when I said that.

Yeah, the 3/12 was the +7 for that week. It looks like more people want to watch Smash, they just don't need to watch it immediately. That sounds good to me, unfortunately that may mean they're watching via something that will allow them to ff through commercials, which probably makes sponsors nervous.

Couldn't find anything for last night yet but did turn up this (+7 for the next week, after the one in the post above). I think that's just for the 18-49 demo, but it went up a point, which means almost half again as many people watched later. That sounds good. I'll keep checking for April 9th.

Last night's ratings:

"NBC edged out CBS for the nightly win with advertiser coveted adults 18-49, but The Voice fell two tenths to a Monday season low 3.9 adults 18-49 rating. At 10pm Smash was steady with a 2.1 adults 18-49 rating, tied for its season low."

10:00 CBS Hawaii Five-0 2.6/7 10.19
NBC Smash 2.1/5 6.02
ABC Scandal (R) 1.3/4 6.74

I thought Scandal looked interesting from the previews but I guess I was in the minority. Didn't realize it was on opposite Smash, though... guess I won't be rooting THAT hard for them. So Smash still isn't pulling in the total viewership, but they are holding their own in the 18-49 category and staying above 6 mil viewers.

Groucho, Scandal was just a repeat (of its premiere from last Thursday) in place of a Castle repeat. It's normally on Thursdays. Smash isn't doing great in the ratings right now, but most shows are suffering because it's Spring. Don't be surprised if we get further dips before the finale. At least it held steady in spite of Voice falling some more (which should be a greater concern for NBC).

At least it's been renewed. Then next season we can start sweating it out all over again. Evidently the season is going to end before they get to Broadway, so there's plenty of Marilyn/Bombshell left for some second year drama. Then somewhere a new musical will start getting worked in?

I guess it's safe to say Rebecca is not going to wind up playing Marilyn because baby producers can't squeeze processes into 1/5 their actual time like the Smash producers did for Bombshell.

I would say Rebecca doesn't get to be Marilyn because Uma is listed as a guest star, not as part of the cast. What if we have a star for Dimaggio and Karen for Marilyn?

The latest from tvbythenumbers, Smash down a bit. But it was #25 in the top 25 in the 28-49 demo. Guess it didn't make it for overall viewers though. And Scandal was a rerun again. (I finally watched the Scandal pilot and it was pretty good, they took on all kinds of "scandalous" behavior.)

I still get a bit confused by these ratings. How did Scandal get better numbers but a lower rating. Or is that final figure overall numbers and the rating is for 18-49? As long as whatever it stands for is good enough to get the show renewed, I don't REALLY care, I'm just curious.

Groucho, the 2.0 for Smash and 1.3 for the Scandal repeat is the rating for the 18-49 demographic age group. The 5.99 and 6.21 is the number of total viewers in millions (The original Scandal premiere got 7.28 million viewers and a 2.0 demo rating). When the total viewer number is high but the demo rating is low, that means the show skews older, which is bad to advertisers, similar to the problem Harry's Law has. Advertisers don't want to pay that much for older viewers, but they will pay a premium for viewers in the 18-49 range because they are harder to reach.

That's what I thought but wasn't totally sure. Why is 18-49 so desirable? I read somewhere that advertisers seem to think it's harder to sway older viewers away from their favorite brands, so if younger folks are more flexible, theyre a better potential audience for ads. Does that make sense?

tvbythenumbers +7 ratings wk ending 3/26. 18-49 demo. Started at 2.1, increased during the week to 3.2 (an increase of 1.1), which is an increase of 52%. Viewers may not get there at first, but they get there at last.

4 Smash-03/26 NBC 2.1, 3.2, 1.1, 52%

I can't get it to copy for some reason, but viewership seems to have gone up from 6141 to 8551, which I think translates into 6,141,000 to 8,115,000. Not the greatest but an improvement.

Just found this 5 minutes ago, adjusted down a tad.

10:00PM
ABC 20/20 DWTS Special 2.1, 6, 10.680
NBC Smash 2.0, 5, 6.010
CBS Hawaii Five-0 -R 1.6, 5, 7.700

Too bad that even a H50 rerun can beat them in total viewers but they're still ahead in the 18-49 demo, I guess. No wonder Kathy Bates used to rave all the time about Harry's Law's numbers and then they got canceled anyway.

I thought I saw it on a "canceled" list...maybe it was just "likely to be." I wonder if it will get shuffled off to another cable network or something...I don't know why I never got into it because I love Kathy Bates. But then I didn't find X Files until it had run a few seasons either, then I got hooked like a fish. Same for Buffy and Charmed, which I thought sounded silly and then discovered them in syndication.

The show seems fairly consistent in the Live + 7 Day ratings for the most part from episode 3 up through episode 9, though we'll see what happens with Eps 10-15. It may be a sign that the show's ratings are fairly consistent overall, but the Spring effect on ratings is doing a number on watching live.

Live + 7 Day DVR ratings:
Week Live + Same Day Live + 7 Day
1 - 3.8 - 5.0
2 - 2.8 - ??
3 - 2.3 - 3.2
4 - 2.3 - 3.4
5 - 2.7 - 3.8
6 - 2.4 - 3.4
7 - 2.2 - 3.2
8 - 2.1 - 3.2
9 - 2.1 - 3.4
