That's not what the dj said this morning, not that they have the best sources. But it was nice to hear Kat's name in a positive light compared with everything else lately.
I think the day of the AI season premier is great timing for Randy if it's out. |

Randy Jackson has a busy first quarter ahead of him. Not only will the musician/producer be returning to the stage this week as a judge on "American Idol," but come March 11, the musician/producer will also have a new album to support. |

I guess Concord Records is trying to branch out into other genres. I don't see many jazz names on that artist list. Also, "Jackson was also recently named senior A&R consultant and producer for Concord/Stax." |

I kind of think "Jazzy/RB" would be a real possibility as Elliott's music is really pretty R&B...wow! I think he and Kat will make BEE U TEE FULLISH music together!!! |

Thanks, Bill, for providing the track listing for the Randy album. That actually looks like a decent album--and I can already see Grammys in Randy's pupils for Album of the Year next year...even though it's probably a 1% chance. At least the Grammys give Jazz product a true fighting chance in the mainstream award categories. This year alone has several jazz-oriented projects up for major awards. You never know--especially when you've assembled talent like that for one project.
In a way, it gives me remembrances of Quincy Jones's "Back on the Block" album that won Album of the Year in 1991. I suppose Randy's shooting for something like that--despite not having any true jazz legends on there. Even so, having Sam Moore and Mariah Carey makes it border toward legendary status. And just imagine Kat being able to be on an Album of the Year nominee next year.
Well, we'll see--if maybe even seeing Kat herself nominated at the Grammy Awards by at least 2010.
Somehow I sense a mass shuddering over Paula having a new song on that. A title of "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow" sounds a bit 80's, too, but I reserve judgement until hearing it. Paula may still be an awesome performer as she actually was in her heyday. I frankly miss seeing her dancing (her strongest suit)--though I sense that maybe she's out of practice. It'd be ironic to see her on "Dancing with the Stars"--when that show utilizes elements of "AI" with the judges.
Here's hoping Kat and Elliott's "Real Love" takes off somehow. Ending up on Billboard's R&B charts with the single would be a great feather in her cap...and probably where she'd like to be for the most part if she had her way. |

Well you can hear a sample of Paula's song on Ryan's website. http://ryan.kiisfm.com/pages/paulaabdul.htmlAlso there is a radio cap here: http://www.thesweetescape.blogspot.com/Hey I loved Paula's music back in the 80's. It was fresh, a bit innovative, and some stuff like Rush Rush was actually pretty mature and not just dance/pop even though I liked her dance/pop. To me this song is a bit generic and after waiting all these years I thought it might be a bit more interesting than it is.I do like it though. But testing the waters on Randy's CD for Concord is a very safe way for her to go if she wants a comeback. Hopefully it will be an actual hit because that would get others to sample Kat's music from the CD. That is definitely a good thing. And if this song becomes a "hit" what I'd like to see is the duet be the second most downloaded song as that would cause folks to maybe lean in that direction for single #2. |

Where Quincy Jones has left or paved, Randy Jackson takes over or takes after. He grouped great song material for great singers to sing them, away from the songs you could have been tired listening to by now. Otherwise, these could just be alternatives. But I believe there could be something or more that's genuinely great. Can't wait till March 11th to hear kat and Elliott. Kudos to Randy for taking on a project like this. |
