DETROIT (uploaded)
Katharinemylove from Katharinefans.com recap
So last night was the Detroit concert that I had been anxiously waiting
for. The concert was great! Mandissa wasn't there due to illness, but I
didnt really care. I am just going to tell you about Kat! She came out
and all I heard was "2,3,4..." and I knew it was her. The lights went
up and there she was in all her beauty in the black dress. She looked
absolutely amazing and she sound amazing too. BHATCT was great I had a
good time dancing around. Now I was in the nose bleed section but her
presence was all around the room. Then she gave a little speech about
how she could only sing two songs and what not, so then she sang SOTR!
She started and she just stared out in the crowd and it took a few
seconds before she started the song because the crowd was cheering so
loud. Then she started and I was in a transe. She sung it amazingly. I
loved the key change in the performance it gave it something more.
Then
she ended the song and I cheered so loud for her because she did so
well, and Around my section there were a lot of Chris fans, and I was
looking at them when she ended and they looked at each other with a
face like " wow, she is pretty good. I don't know why i hate her for no
reason" type faces. And then like that she was gone. It went by so fast
but it was still a very memorable performance. Then she came out with
the group and that was awsome too. When she sung her little solo in it
I cheered really loud. Then they all waved and said good-bye and that
was it.
The after the show a group of people were waiting outside by
the gated area where the busses were, waiting until the busses would
leave. We saw a lot of the idols getting on the bus and hanging out.
Chris and bucky were riding on this scooter thing. I could see Kat
talking with some of the idols, were her beautiful brown locks. So we
waited for almost an hour, and then this police officer came and told
us through the speaker in his car that we had to leave. Everyone just
ignored him and kept looking. Then the cop screamed and said "citizens
disperse now or you will get a loitering ticket!" and we were all like,
umm this is really stupid. Then we still didnt move then he said "do
you think I am joking! Do I have to show you what the ticket looks
like!?" so then we all left. Kat was
amazing! |

Added. Wow I like my system. It took less time to add this to the Brimingham webpage than it did to come back here and say I'd done it! |

Can everyone who comes here test the new audio button below the SOTR video on the Columbia page? http://www.katsconcerts.com/KC/Columbia.htmFor me it crashes on IE but is fine for Netscape, Firefox and Opera. It is an "Activex" control. does anyone understand these and why they won't work in IE. (Actually it does work in IE if I try it out in a self contained window but crashes if I have it in a popup window like here. Weird) |

Posted By differentlife on 08/15/2006 11:12 PM I've redone the nashville audio from the mpg from youtube's mmmeverclear. Two sets: mono, stereo. For each set, 1) the full audio, 2) Interlude and OTR split and playable independently or in sequence without gaps. phee, this set is upsampled to 44.1kHz so the streaming player should be ok with it. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=X7NYXC1Wdiff Ok, we are all sorted out now and ready for your audio contributions I have made an http://www.katsconcerts.com/KC/audi...ctions.htm" target="_blank"> instructions page to guide you through the process of adding an audio option to an existing performance video. This will be completely in your hands, I won't have to do anything! The audio to use would be the one that matches the video - e.g. the full audio if for example it contains both songs and the speech. It would be nice to have an audio option for all of the videos that have half decent sound. It is probably best to try to get the original video and work from that. I have not had a refusal yet in 4 times that I have contacted people on youtube or through their posts in forums, here and at IDF. Think about a page of just audio at some point with the different versions of each song maybe on their own player together and any alternates (sim stereo) you might like to add plus technical information. It is all up to you now! Do as much as you wish. |

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (uploaded) Crystal from MjsBigBlog Recap This was an outdoor concert. The only outdoor concert so far (according
to several of the idols.) Due to timing, the first half of the concert
was in broad daylight. Bonus? I got to see all the guys goofing off
backstage. The stage is open steel work, btw, and there really isn't a
backstage, per se. Anyway. Chris was dorking around on a scooter. Elliott was
standing on a railing, taking pictures of the crowd. Crowd was HUGE. I
think I got a couple of pictures of the crowd. You have to put the two
pictures together to see the full audience. It was that large. And very LOUD. Let me stop here to say something. I'm primarily a Kat fan. I can take
or leave the other idols. Until tonight. Now I'm a fan of all of them.
They seriously kicked some butt. Lisa was incredible.
Paris has got some moves. Bucky sounded great. Kellie was much better
than I remember. She can also move. At one point Mom leans over and
says, "Damn. Girl's got a hell of a swing on that back porch." Intermission.
Now Bucky's dorking around on the scooter again. Kellie jumps on the
back, holds onto Bucky, and they go scooting around. They stop at one
point, by the fence, and a crowd rushes over to meet them and get pics. Show
starts back up. Now people who know me know I snark on Chris. But I was
unbelievably impressed. Chris is really something. He sang much better
than I remember, and lit that stage on fire. Elliott joins Chris. Most people who know me also know that I've never
been impressed with Elliott. That changed tonight. He was incredible. Oh, and he was wearing a Peyton Manning jersey. HUGE points
with this audience. Honestly, I wasn't that impressed with Patience. It was all right, but not as good as I was expecting. Now
Kat. Kat was spectacular. She was still holding her voice back a tad on
BHatCT, but she rocked it. Girl can move, too. Loving that black dress.
She was adorkable in her little speech. Kellie had mentioned earlier
that she and Kat had sneaked off to pet the goats and other animals.
Kat talked about how she'd never been to a fair like this before, and
this was her favorite stop of the tour so far. BTW, I heard the country
stuff. I get it all the time, so it didn't bug me. SotR gave
me chills. Un-freaking-believable. It was a totally different version
than I've ever heard her sing. She nailed it. My mother started crying.
The hair on the back of my neck stood up, y'all. Now for Taylor. An Indiana State Police car drove up to the right side of the
audience with sirens and lights blazing. Taylor popped out. He was
about three feet away from me. Taylor rocked the house. No other way to describe it. He owned that stage. Final
group number was fantastic. Kat can move. Sorry Kat fans. I was too
busy watching to get decent pictures. All of the Idols got love from
Indiana. It was just incredible. Bottom line - I loved the show. It was fantastic.

Good find Minnie, glad to see it up there. It was good to post the whole review too, as the inclusion of the other acts leads up to Kats crowning glory! I'm just wondering what your procedure is for posting the recaps because all the formatting (Like paragraphs) disapears. If you just copy and paste directly from the original post into the content window it should maintain all formatting. Even the little smileys come through. So just wondering if maybe you are doing something needlessly complicated that is needlessly stripping out the formatting? Of course I'm very greatfull for your posts regardless, but want to make it as easy for you as possible. |

wow, a lot has changed in just a few days. cool!
For the Columbia audio link, IE works for me, but not Firefox and Netscape.
IE6 on XP SP2 Internet Security: High nothing happens.
Security: Medium Popup blocked when popup block High Streaming works when popup is medium (default, I believe). Streaming player popup appears to have Windows Media Player skin.
Firefox 1.5.0.6 on XP SP2 I get "Missing plugin" popup Firefox offers Real Player 10.5 (ugh). Real Player is not installed on system. Firefox is set to open mp3 with Windows Media Player. strange
Netscape 8.0: same as Firefox
Maybe your problem with IE is actually a problem with IE trying to load whatever your Windows is set to use to open mp3 files (Windows Media Player?). I'm not sure exactly how IE calls up the streaming player. You can check the registry at:
HKCR\mp3file\shell\open\command or HKCR\mp3file\shell\play\command to see if they point to a valid player.
('mp3file' should be replaced by whatever is shown under HKCR\.mp3 (Default)

I guess it is going to be a mess!
At the heart of the embed we have:
name="realPlayerControls" type="audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin"
So yes, it is looking for real player. I'm by no means any kind of expert on these things. I wonder if I can get sophisticated and detect the default media player and configure it for that...or at least fail gracefully with a mess "requires realplayer" and a link to download it... |

Ah - MAC again, darn those MACs!
The matter of png images has never come up before, I have fixed my code to allow them through. (I only allow certain files to be uploaded to the server or someone could upload an executable file and delete everything!) Try them again.
I will try on my MAC, MAC is probably the problem. |

http://digitalmedia.oreilly.com/2006/05/31/build-a-better-web-audio-player.html
This guy seems to have done all the heavy lifting for getting streaming audio to work for mac, windows, different browsers, ....
1. It doesn't rely on third party software like Real Player. 2. It detects the OS. For Macs, it uses Quicktime, which should be on all Macs. For Windows, it uses Windows Media, which should be on all recent Windows. 3. The popup gives an option to save the mp3 or other file. 4. It handles .m3u playlists. 5. Provides an option to embed the player in the webpage, if javascript is enabled, but provides an 'out' if it isn't
Looks like a clean universal way to do things. But I don't html code or javascript, so i don't know for sure. It can even handle multi-song playlists, which I have my eye on for the sets of audio files I'm thinking of uploading.
Figuring out this script might take a lot less time than accounting for all the various permutations of users' OSs, browsers, third party plugins, scripting on/off, etc.
diff
On page 3, the author says: After an enormous amount of research and experimentation, I think I've finally found a near-universal way to embed audio in web pages without using Flash. I now have MP3s, M3Us, MIDs, AIFFs, WMAs, and WAVs playing on Windows (Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 7, Firefox, and Opera) and the Mac (Safari, Firefox, Camino, and Opera). Better, the Windows browsers work both with and without QuickTime, and the JavaScript method is the recommended way to deal with Internet Explorer 7's aversion to embedded media. The only stubborn browser is Opera on the Mac, which tries to load the whole file before starting playback. I haven't been able to test this technique on Linux, so I'm curious to hear your experiences; please leave comments below.

Thanks for the info, I did come across this page during my search, I've forgotten now why I didn't pick up on it. I'll have another look.
Don't let that stop you though!
And yes, lets plan on having play lists on the "Audio" page. It could also have just lots of embedded mp3 players. I'm not sure what our audio nuts might want to do - play different versions of the same song simultaneously? We can have as many different ways of presenting the audio as you like. |

Dude, it's Windows, that's what is does. It's usually a good idea to rebuild your machine once a year or so. It's a pain in the ass but it really helps to get the performance back and get rid of those annoying little quirks that develop over time.

LOUISVILLE (uploaded)
TRINA from Katharinefans.com Recap
Oh wow, where do I begin! First of all, I am from Indiana and live about an hour away from Louisville. The Kentucky State Fair is presently going on and we ran into a major traffic jam. People were not only there to attend the Idol concert, but there were other concerts and events last night and it was very nerve wracking experience. We ended up missing most of the first part of the show. The concert was packed!! I did see many orange t-shirts scattered amongst the sea of people. When we arrived Kellie was out on stage!! She is really a little fireball! So much fun and really has a talent talking to the audience. She also has a beautiful voice, and I would definitely buy her CD. If Katharine loves her that says a lot about what a great and funloving person she is.
After Kellie there was intermission. Not long after that they started showing highlights of the Idol season on the big scenes, and the crowd started going crazy. A lot of constant screaming! Poor ears. Katharine, was absolutely gorgerous in the black dress. She stayed on her knees for awhile and didn't move her shoulders much like she did at some of the previous concerts. She got up, sashayed down the ramp and started working the crowd!! Everyone loved it!!
After that, she talked to the crowd. My favorite part was when she said she spent time with the horses and cows at the fairgrounds. She mentioned being from California and not seeing cows. Kat said she had an affectionate moment with a cow that showered her face with spit. She said she loved it! That Kat!
She also explained how she missed the first part of the tour, and pulled up her dress to show her black leg cast. Then she sang Somewhere Over the Rainbow, and the crowd started screaming. But Katharine was SO WORTH IT!!! She sang SOTR different then before. Each time she makes it her own and sings it differently.
The highlight of the concert was Katharine and the cow story. She was so cute, and has such a love for all kinds of animals, even moo cows.
At the end, during the group sing-a-longs, Katharine was wearing a black shirt, with a big silver metallic iron on bow on the front and the back of shirt was open. Kat did her best to keep up with the rest, but I am sure she will be relieved to get the boot off. It tires her out, but she did her best singing, hobbling, dancing, and waving and smiling sweetly to the crowd.
After they were walking off stage, Kellie was walking ahead of Katharine and Kat tapped Kellie on the back with her microphone. It was a fun friendship moment. I can't wait until Katharine has her own concert, or at least will be opening up for someone, like Carrie is doing. Like the old saying goes "all good things come to those who wait."

LOUISVILLE (uploaded) J. Gumbrecht from LexingtonHerald-Leader Review
Katharine Best song: Somewhere Over the RainbowThis has not been a great tour for Katharine McPhee. She missed the
first few weeks for throat troubles, and once she returned, she broke
her foot. But she was a champ last night, performing two songs and
skipping across the stage as if she didn't have a cast on her leg. And
in her black, cast-hiding gown, she looked gorgeous.

Greensboro, very short clips of BHACT and OTR. poor video, poor audio. I guess this post is more for the obsessive compulsives like me who need every second of video they can get. I doubt it's worth using for katsconcerts, but maybe the videographer has a bigger clip? Combined Kat part is about 16 seconds. And it's buried in a 7 1/2 minute FLV starting at ~ time = 391 seconds. Katharine happens to be my only hobby, so in my case the answer is - "very" and "lots". It might not be a bad idea to have a standard email all ready and just send it to every possible person in the hopes they have more and better video sitting on their computer. Who knows what gems we might find? For now though I'm fully occupied just with development in the site and trying to keep up with the volunteers (read "Minnie") who are doing such an excellent job. Site programming, first phase, should be pretty much finished in a week, more volunteers have signed on after this mornings bulk email so the load should be spread around more evenly soon and the task of the volunteers made easier by the site programming so that should free us all up to do more "digging". |

Minnie had been doing an excellent job but she is away for a week now. Couple of posts by 1 or 2 others. Diff is very good with the audio. Basicly though its becoming the same story as it was a pheenomenum.com - people like the idea of being contributors but mostly cannot be bothered to actually do it. Even with the easy to use forms. Even with the even easier to use send a link.
So yeah, anything that will get more sincere contributors involved would be a good idea. |

Posted By Pheenomenon on 08/18/2006 2:47 AM I guess it is going to be a mess!
At the heart of the embed we have:
name="realPlayerControls" type="audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin"
So yes, it is looking for real player. I'm by no means any kind of expert on these things. I wonder if I can get sophisticated and detect the default media player and configure it for that...or at least fail gracefully with a mess "requires realplayer" and a link to download it... Pheenomenon,Regarding the audio tab under the videos on Kat's concerts site:The player works for me with IE but not with Firefox. IE can recognize automatically what default audio player the computer has. I tried assigning Quicktime, Real Player and Windows Media player to work as the default player at different times and they all work with IE perfectly. No need to configure the embed player even if it uses real player controls. It works with IE just fine, and most people use IE anyway, even if their default players are quicktime, real player or windows media. However, I couldn't get Firefox to work with any player because my computer needed an activex plugin that is not available in the Firefox site, and I'm afraid to download it from elsewhere. Therefore, in matters where firefox doesn't work for me, I switch to IE, otherwise, firefox is my choice of browser. It's rather faster than IE. It works with the videos perfectly, though. So, when I need to play just the audio part on the concerts website, I switch to IE. What's happening with your IE crashing with the player is that which happens with my firefox when I use it to play the audio, because IE is fine with me. I just feel spywares and viruses are attracted to IE and it seems the cache is used up so much faster, whereas, I can leave firefox on all night long without any problem whatsoever. Funny!!! We have opposite experiences. You're doing a hell of a job. Thanks for all the hard work you're putting into the concerts site. We enjoy all the media you provided! Very user-friendly. More power to you, MattsieNote: I use other browsers: Avant and Maxthon. Clever.....

Mattsie, I think Phee changed the audio player technique after we had that problem with Firefox asking for Real Player. But it still isn't working for me either on one computer's Firefox, but it works on another computer's Firefox. Phee, the behavior I'm seeing is identical to what the guy describes in "Phantom plugin": http://digitalmedia.oreilly.com/pub...tml?page=2The "Vocoder example" link on that page works in my Firefox. I'm totally clueless with webpage coding though, otherwise I'd try to figure out the difference between that link and our audio links. My page source for the oreilly page says this for the Vocoder example link that works: <script src="/examples/oreilly/digitalmedia/2006/05/BatmoAudioPop.js" type="text/javascript">script> <ul class="audio"> <li><a href="/examples/oreilly/digitalmedia/2006/05/better-player-vocoder.mp3" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:BatmoAudioPop('Vocoder Example',this.href,'1'); return false">Vocoder examplea> (224K MP3)li>
ul> umm, ohhhkay. I'm sure that means something to you.
You know, after all this time, I haven't thanked you for all that work on katsconcerts, Simon. Hey everyone, I know for a fact Simon is up all hours of the night and working like crazy on the site. You are freaking awesome, man! |

Thanks for the shoutout diff! I know you are up all hours too putting the sound together and a special thanks is require to Minniw who was up until 5 am getting her videos and pics and recap online from a motel room! Been so long since I stayed in a motel I didn't even know they came with internet connection, is that standard these days or an expensive option?
The audio code we currently have installed is the best we could find. If I change it to what we have here will it then stop working for some other combinations of OS and browser? Video seems to be universally working, you'd think there would be a universal audio code by now, audio being simpler than video!
Ok, I'll have a look at this new stuff and give it a try. Hope it isn't 1 step forward and 2 back! |

well...i just saw this post and i have to reply because i was a bit hurt by it...since i was one of the only ones i believe taking video in tampa...i am quite sure that the "idiot" you are referring to is me...you should probably view some of the other "idiots" screaming in their videos as well--many of whom are members on this site. wth...seriously, you should watch what you are saying about people--it's rude and uncalled for--we were having fun, and you are lucky we even shared the videos with you at all. you're welcome, btw.

Great new tampa vids except the idiot beside the camera screaming! I'll put it all together before going to bed this evening.
