So, I wanted to start off with something easy. How often do people misspell your name, and does it drive you crazy?
I would say about once a week you'll see my name misspelled. It does drive me a little nuts, but for the most part it only drives me nuts when it's on a television showand you're like, it's -arine, not -erine. No one really spells it like that. But I was named after Katharine Hepburn, and that's how she spelled it.

Your first album is about to come out. Any song that’s particularly special to you?
I really love “Neglected.” I cowrote that song, and it has a different feel to it than a lot of the other songs. And I love this song called “Love Story.” It has an old-school feel to it, kind of a pop beat to it. It's a fun girls' song.

You mentioned you wrote for your album. If you couldn’t be a singer, would you want to be a songwriter-or what would you want to be?
I would want to be an aesthetician. Is that weird? I'm, like, so obsessed with facials and hygiene, and whenever anyone gets pimples, when I see someone with blackheads, I want to pop ‘em. I've always been obsessed with skincare. I love the Yon-Ka line. It’s a European company, and they have such beautiful skin products.

You’ve also been doing some acting lately, including a guest spot on the February 1 episode of Ugly Betty. What was it like to play yourself?
It was fun. It was actually pretty easy compared to everything I’ve been doing. I only did one little scene with America Ferrera. She was so amazing and so sweet. She really made me feel comfortable.

I know you auditioned for a part in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pantsno hard feelings?
I told her that I auditioned for the Traveling Pants movie like four different times and was asked for four different characters. She was like, Oh my gosh, that’s so crazy. It’s just a small world, you know, to finally meet celebrities and have some sort of connection to them.

Did you get to meet anyone famous who you were excited to meet?
I met Katie and Tom, and that was really weird. I went up to them and told them I was rumored to be singing at their wedding. They were like, That’s so funny, it would have been amazing if you had. I was like, mm hmm [laughs]. I couldn’t believe it--Tom and Katie are the nicest people!

I heard you’re going to be in a red dress fashion show for heart health, and we’re big promoters of that cause at Woman’s Day. Why did you get involved in the cause?
They asked if anyone in my family had ever suffered from heart disease, and my grandmother, my dad’s mother, died of heart disease when I was a little girl. I never really got to know her that well, but my dad says that all the little silly faces I make and things that I do really remind him of his mother, so when they asked me to do the show, I said, Yeah, I’d love to do it. I actually just tried on the dress; it’s going to be a short red dress completely covered with red crystals.

What were you amazed to find out about Ryan Seacrest after seeing him on TV and then meeting him in person?
That he’s exactly the same off camera. He’s just as charismatic, just as friendly, just as chill.

If you had to choose a former Idol contestant to go on a date with, who would you choose?
Oh gosh, nobody. I’m kidding.

I know people make a big deal over the age difference between you and your boyfriend [she’s 22, he’s 41]. How do you feel about that?
I don’t even really pay attention to that, but for me it’s not a big deal.

What are 3 things you’re most grateful for in life?
My health and my family’s good healthso far, knock on wood; being on American Idol; and the roof that’s over my head. I purchased a condo in LA. It’s so nice to have my own space.

Do you have a theme song to get you through tough times in life?
A couple I really like. One called “Stand,” it’s a gospel song.

What’s the last thing you do before you go to sleep?
I say a little prayer or something…well, usually brush my teeth and wash my face.

hehe yay kat. cute article...does anyone know when the music video is projected for release?
