I agree with you, though there seemed to be a sound problem which didn't help him either.

I agree too. I think Taylor's vocals sounded strained almost as if he was trying too hard. GO KAT GO!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know why anybody would think Taylor is a threat to Katharine? The competition is over and they are now professional recording artists. Katharine's single is far better than Taylor's "Runaround" and
Taylor sounds strained because he has to work to hit a note and remain on key. Katharine is naturally pitch-perfect.

All the spinning and whirling is part of his charm.

Sorry but IMO TH has no charm. All that whirling and girations are there to hide the fact that he is not a good singer. If you can't sing the song then sell the song is what he lives by. Showmanship over talent. Sorry I know some Kat fans are TH fans but IMO he is the weakest winner ever on AI. And his sales drop to 15th the week before Christmas is proof of that.

Ok no more TH talk from me. I have never got his appeal and never will.

I actually enjoyed watching this time, he didn't go into complete convulsions this time and the addition of Gladys Knight made the whole thing pull more together entertainment wise. But do I want to buy his CD? Nope, but I wish him all the best in his music genre.

But it doesn't matter because of that voice...Taylor has to do tricks because he's limited vocally.  But he did them really well on Idol.  And so he won...good for him.  I have a funny feeling this will be his last Orange Bowl...or bowl of any kind.  The Rose Parade is better anyway.  Plus USC vs Michigan compared to Wake Forest vs Louisville?  Please!

We have to be careful about the Taylor-bashing, after all, we hate it when Katharine is trashed. I always give my critique based on decades of music industry experience. so here goes:

Taylor is a music producers challenge. The beauty of studio "magic" is that we can correct bad notes and off-key performances. His album is obviously enhanced by such technology, whereas Katharine's vocals only require mixing and mastering of her own pure backup efforts.

There is really no comparison any longer because they are not in competition, they are apples and oranges. Anyway, don't count Taylor out just yet. He hasn't even released a single and his tour is confirmed. Taylor is a good performer with good stage presence. He could really surprise us and I wish him all the best.  Will I buy his album?  NO

It's too bad. I love Blue Eyed Soul but he simply isn't that good. I actually think that Austin Carroll who wrote BOA that Kat is singing is a much better singer of that sytle than TH. Just from listening to his demos on his MySpace.

Yeah, I used to be a Taylor Hicks fan as well as a Katharine fan. As of now, I really don't like him. I just think he's not a good singer or a good dancer.

That's what I was trying to say.  Katharine doesn't need anything to "help" her out.  Witness SOTR when her ear monitor went out and she still nailed the a capella opening.  She's just super-talented, very blessed.  But she doesn't take it for granted.  She knows how fortunate she is.

How in the world does Taylor not have a single?  This seems crazy to me.  And Taylor's tour...it fits him.  It isn't something Katharine would do.  I can't see her performing in smaller venues like that.  Unless she wanted to drop in and just sing some of her ballads at a night club.  But you need some bigger than that to pull off some of these songs.  Lots of stage production and glitz.  I'm sure she'd love to put on a real SHOW.  Not just a concert.
