No mention of Katharine, but I just couldn't help thinking that it should have been Katharine singing with Tony Bennett, Josh Groban and Michael Buble, although Carrie was great. What an honour for her to sing with those stars. She has arrived!

My mom taped this and alerted me to it yesterday. And I had the same thought about Kat seeing Carrie singing 'For Once In My Life' with those more 'classical' type of singers. Though Carrie proved she can sing this type of music with aplomb if she wanted to. The clarity of her voice on that was outstanding. Also, she must be a fan of Tony Bennett's--because she was one of the few showing true support for him in the audience when he won the Century Award at the Billboard Awards. Younger bubble gum pop artists like Jesse McCartney just stood around looking baffled.

Oprah is amazing (well, except for her book club ) in gathering a group like that on an afternoon talk show. Nobody else would manage to gather Groban, Underwood, Buble and Bennett together--plus sing together at that. It's the kind of music event you wish you could see more often on TV. In the old days of classic TV, you had events like this quite often on variety shows and things. Now that there's a strong contingent of great singers again...it's about time we saw them perform together in various settings.

Just one thought: A Kat and Carrie duet album someday utilizing various styles of music from R&B/Country/Jazz/Standards. We know now how versatile both are--and imagine what a great album event that'd be. I know some people have wanted them to team up other than that short group number on the 'AI' finale. Though Carrie's basic sensibility is Country...Kat can certainly do that just as well as what she's doing now.

When you get right down to it, Kat and Carrie are probably the two greatest voices of their generation right now.

kat can sing circles around carrie, but she is country, and everyone loves a sad song, and records sales are awesome, kat has a way to go, but she is still the one with the greastest voice!

I agree with you on this one.  If Carrie is challenged to sing SOTR, SIFFY, STWOM, and BOA, ---and if Kat is challenged to sing JTTW, etc, Kat's vocals and rendition would be largely preferred, I'm almost sure of it. There can be no possible doubt on the greatness of Kat's voice. I voted for Carrie in 2005 over Bo to win, but when 2006 came with Katharine, my whole idea of a great female voice changed overnight.  Kelly Clarkson got me into this AI, and she's one admirable female singer there has been, however,  regardless of awards and acclamation at this point, between Kelly, Carrie and Katharine, ---I'm all for Katharine. She blew me away. I'm laying all my cards for her.  The naturality, the versatility, the fullness, the power, the potential, the giftedness of her talent, the beautiful sound of her sultry tone  ---you will all find those in Kat's voice, all entwined into one. I give credit to Carrie and Kelly for what they've done, but I'm staying with Katharine forever. It's a personal preference backed up with Kat's greatness.

Movie actors like Paul Newman, Jimmy Stewart, Humphrey Bogart, Katharine Hepburn, Lauren Bacall and Bette Davis make me want to live in the era they lived but I could have been just as inspired even now while I watch their work in films.

Interesting comparision with Carrie & Kat.  Yeah, I think Katharine could do Carrie's stuff better than Carrie could do Katharine's.  But that doesn't really matter.  Carrie's doing what she does and she does it brilliantly.  We can only hope Katharine comes close to the number of CD's sold & awards won as Carrie has.  I have nothing but good things to say about that girl.

"I saw Katharine McPhee when there were about 12 contestants left on American Idol. She blew me away. I loved her grace, her style, her poise, her voice and her hair! I wanted her to be the face of Sexy Hair because she represented everything that I had in my head for the brand: youth, beauty, talent, class, a young sophistication, and sexiness." -- Jim Morrison, CEO of Sexy Hair Products.

I agree with you, Joe, on Carrie's brilliance with what she does, and let's hope Kat could get the recognition that she deserves also in her field. However, in the pop and r&b category, it's rather more competitive there than country, I suppose, having many new talented artists all the time. Carrie's timing in the country world is perfect, though, when Faith Hill and Shania Twain have almost exhausted their younger country appeal in the awards department, although they still sell records. Both Faith Hill and Shania Twain are beautiful country singers, and to follow after them in Carrie's same beautiful persona is indeed a blessing and an opportunity. I'm merely pointing out a personal preference of a female voice. Besides, I'm more of a ballad-standard-pop kind of listener than country really, but I do admire Carrie as well. As I mentioned, I did vote for her all the way to win in 2005.I have nothing personal against Carrie. In fact, Carrie the blonde and Katharine the brunette look so pretty together in that picture (finale photo of Kat, Carie and taylor singing) you quoted where you mentioned that Kat's brilliance as a star stands out.

Carrie is just so awesome. She's the perfect Idol, in my opinon. AI got lucky to have a beautiful, phenomenally talented, classy, smart girl to represent them, and now Kat can follow in her footsteps as for being a good role model. Carrie's voice amazes me. She, Kat, Clay and Kelly have voices that can sing almost anything you throw at them, and that's what I love about them.

i think i dont wanna compare Carrie with Kat coz i love them both very much! i dont lean more to one side, coz for me they are both great Idols. If any, i think they are of different genre, but we can always hope they'll sing together someday, coz i bet they'lll try to have a friendly competition when they sing, of course at the end of the song they'll have a blast and giggle with each other. Carrie's country, and Kat's rnB/Pop, but i guess with the way Carrie was able to hold her ground real well with legendary male vocalists (Huh-loo, Tony Bennett, Buble, and Groban???) singing a song that is far FAAR from country, you gotta give it up to her. She's got talent and nerves of steal, i bet Kat would have done well with the 3 males as well... having said that, im a fan of both, so yhey for me! LOL

I totally agree  as well.  i hate comparing my fave idols. Carrie and Kat are by far my top two  but they're both so different.  Kat could do lots of things better than Carrie and Carrie could do lots of things better than Kat. They're both amazing in their own ways.

You guys are great. I take no offense and I put out none. I see there is a discussion on this topic. I don't want to sound unfair at all, so, I have to reply. All that I'm saying is, with the songs I had preferred being sung by a female voice, I prefer Kat's voice performing them. Another thing is, when you are faced with enumerating your preferences, you are only bound to list them, right? Well, I have made up my list and I had put Kat my number one. But of course I'm fans of Kelly's and Carrie's as well. Thanks, though, for your input. I appreciate it. -----mattsie.
