Darn, but I still do not see Jay Leno's younger clone doing very well in the music business despite the way his genetic daddy keeps pimping him.

Taylor is learning to work the camera a bit though - see him move his eyebrows? He is almost 1/100th as good now as Katharine was in her very first appearance on AI.

I'm sorry for my negativity, I guess it comes from visiting MJ's, where Tay fans bash Katharine constantly.

But somehow - Taylor looks like someone at the very end of their career trying to eek out a few more weeks in the spotlight - but Katharine is so fresh and new and full of promise and we have no idea where she is going to take us but we know it is going to be a wonderful journey full of surprises and magical detours...

Oh My!!!! First, what age group is he going for??? Or what genre? I can only see him in some club somewhere. And what in the HECK was that towards the end that started happening to his body??!!??!! LMAO!!! Poor Taylor, I wonder if there's any medication for that twitch??

in my mind the ultimate "Idol" contestant of the pre-lapsarian era, the one who most perfectly combined the demands for relentless emotive singing and the wow factor -- Katharine McPhee

It took Elvis about 15 years to get from "Elvis" to "Las Vegas Caricature/Impersonator of Elvis", Taylor seems to have accomplished this in only 6 months...

Oh dear - I can't even mock or be snide anymore, I just really do feel sorry for the guy, to have sunk so low in such a short time. His "shtick" is going to wear very thin, very soon. Of course he will always have a career as a singer, which is a darn sight better than most people's lives, but I hope he doesn't take the fall from "greatness" too hard.

He's like "Miss America" - he's got the title for a year, just 5 months remaining, and there is a certain cache in various venues having him make an appearance - like NASCAR or even NASDAQ - but after May 2007 when the title expires...

Well he'll be fine, he'll make a very good living with his base, he'll get endorsement deals with PENZOIL and JOHN DEERE and such, maybe he'll do some USO tours too, show up at WAL-MART openings, guest announcer at WRESTLEMANIA events, half time act at TRUCK AND TRACTOR PULLS...he'll do just great....he'll be fine...

Taylor has personality and appears to be a good entertainer; he plays a mean harmonica. I saw him in LA and San Jose. He really knew how to rev up a crowd. His singing? Well, we know who does that better!!!

We are definitely working together -- working on a record together. She sings so magnificently, it's just amazing -David Foster-

I can see Taylor playing a mean harmonica while riding a John Deere tractor in an ad for their rider mowers. He should watch out where he's going though. You can't feel the Soul while riding a riding mower...especially when metal objects are lying in your lawn.

Oh dear God, the cynicism about Taylor's career isn't pretty--but I abstain from it myself. Actually, I'm one to think he'll do better than some think. But his fans will end up folding in to a certain demographic who really like Soul music. It's not going to be a huge contingent of younger people...even though there ARE a lot of teens, etc., who like that type of music better than any other. And when you realize that entertaining a crowd is all it takes to keep people coming back...he'll probably continue to be a popular LIVE act. His recording career...I'm not too sure about. Just hearing him sing hasn't been something that ultimately inspires you. When you hear Katharine's familiar voice on a recording on the first note...you immediately perk up your ears and want to listen to every note and nuance.

Kat's fortunate in that she can translate well in a studio as well as on stage. I'm not sure which one she does better...but live Katharine is an easy answer to being the ultimate best. Live anything is better.

Yep, I saw Taylor on Leno a couple hours ago. Even he can't get an interview plus sing in the same show. That bit with Leno "adopting" Taylor as his son is getting a bit tired too...though it was an obvious joke that Leno ran with this last summer.

When Kat finally appears on Leno...we can't expect any warmth between her and Jay. We may be surprised, however, at Leno's reaction. Maybe he's had preconceived ideas about her for a while. But when it comes down to talking with her backstage and hearing her perform live--Leno may be one of those reformed people who used to be Katharine bashers.

12/02/2006 4:28 AM Alert

Was this tonight?  It seems like it since Jay promoted Monday's lineup at the end there.  I have to laugh at the comments from the Taylor fans below the video.  I guess I just don't get it.  And they probably don't get us either.  We see things Katharine does as charming or funny and they think she's being snotty or conceited.

They admire the energy the guy brings to every performance.  Now, I'm not going to deny that Taylor's gives it his all up there.  No doubt about that.  You could never accuse him of not giving you his best performance but....and maybe I need to listen to song a few more times but the only thing I remember is that he got his degree is crying.  I think that's what the line is.  And yeah, they could come hit us with "jeans all black, hair slicked back, baseball cap, too cute in my toes...miniskirt, feet don't hurt, just a flirt too cute in my open toes."  I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder.  I'm just not sure where Taylor fits into the music scene.  I guess they'll tell you he's creating his own place.  Maybe so.  I wish him all the best.  I would like to see all of the Idols do well.  I enjoyed the season so much.

And as one who saw Taylor back-to-back nights in Sac & SJ...it's impossible not to start tapping your toes when he was performing on tour.  I tried not to, but it's impossible.  He is sort of an infectious stage presence.  I just can't see listening to him on my IPod or in the car.  Well...I do listen to him on the IPod.  I've got the Elvis Medley & Time of My Life on there.

Wait some of the comments.  This I don't understand....I guess because I'm a guy?  I don't know.  Or it's hard to be impressed by anything when you are a fan of the most beautiful person on the planet?  But...."Oh those eyes...brilliant!"  OK.  If Taylor does it for you...that's wonderful.

I'll stop.  And I'm not bashing Taylor here I don't think.  I hate it when people do it to Katharine so I won't go there.  I just...I just don't get it.  That's all.  I get Chris.  I get Kellie.  I didn't buy their CD's but I get them.

Isn't it strange that Taylor's on Leno 1 1/2 weeks before his album gets released?  This was probably planned when it was coming out 12/5 and they must have not been able to reschedule it.  OK then...

Well I didn't watch the show because well, Taylor was on it. I will say I agree with you all. I just don't get him and I never have. As far as energy goes any good Vegas Lounge singer can give energy, it is used to cover up a lack of talent. If you can't sing the song then SELL the song. He will have a good career because of AI even though it has "fizzled" for him. And he should be thankful for that. And maybe it is because I'm an adult male as well, attractive? You have got to be kidding me! I will never understand some women! lol

I can see how Taylor is easily parodyable (?is there such a word?), parody-worthy, whatever, but I still like his music. Always have liked him. And it used to burn me up no end when Soul Patrollers on other boards I frequented would rip into Katharine with abandon, and I had to fight with one hand behind my back because I really couldn't, even if I'd wanted to, say the same sort of stuff about their guy, because I basically liked him. Could never figure out why they were the most vicious attackers, because THEIR GUY BEAT HER. And they made no secret, because their sig lines would say things like "Soul Patrol!" in big red letters. Anyway... although I had to get tickled at some of the gyrations, I like that song and I like Taylor. I have to say, though, Katharine does the twirl better. I thought he might start spiraling down into the floor and wind up in China there for a minute.

Let me hasten to add, that was just SOME Soul Patrollers and I'm speaking of the imdb, which can be an extremely contentious environment for some reason.  It tends to bring out the Rottweiler in you.

yeah, umm that was interesting lol. I see Taylor is wearing more makeup than a lot of women in Hollywood now. The eyebrow lifts were a new one, I wonder if he's taken the Elvis comparisons by the SP  to heart?  He gives a lot in his performances, much enthusiasm. Not my thing, and not sure what market he's trying to reach with his new album. It must be one I wasn't aware existed.

Ok, tis the season for peace and goodwill to all idols. Some constructive criticism though for Taylor. It looks in this performance like he has been taking lessons in being more camera friendly. It isn't working for him, it just looks phoney. The best think Taylor has going for him is that he is "real" a "soul" man, above trends and MTV and pop music and pop culture, surely this is his schtick? He is about the music first and never mind all the hype and commercialism, right? Isn't that what you are selling Taylor? So stop right now with trying to be camera friendly. Kathariine has had that department wrapped up since day 1, she loves the camera and the camera loves her and she does it all naturally and effortlessly. You just look ridiculous - let it go, keep it real, forget about the camera, just do your thing. Ok?
