Many moons ago,Carly Simon had a hit with" A Legend in Your Own Time" and I've been thinking that Katharine herself is already a legend!Kat's rise to stardom in less than a year's time is legendary and almost fairytale-like and one of the Webster's definitions is quite fitting:"a notable person whose deeds are much talked about in his or her own time".....to my thinking,some of Kat's actions since AI have shown a noble side to her character that one does not usually associate with celebrity!Almost a cue for a song,"The Legend of Kat McPhee"!!!

With Kat's amazing voice I can definately see her becoming a Legend. Who who's she might even go up as high as Whitney Houston. Only time will tell.

But, it's friggin incredible that someone goes from 20 bucks per show to real legends praising them. These are Kat's heroes -- whitney, streisand, aretha, stevie. I also want to point out someone else who obviously respects Kat. Steven Spielberg. One thing that struck me in the pictures from that Diabetes fundraiser was the pictures of her and Hally Berry. My impression is that celebs like Hally recognize Kat as one of their own. Sewn from the same thread. You know, Uncle Jessie did play a little with the Beach Boys.

While we think it takes a legend to know a future legend, I think much of the public knows the ingredients now based on certain variables. Katharine truly embodies what everybody's been craving in the entertainment industry. It's someone who has the best vocal pipes since the days of Ella, is down-to-earth and unassuming to boot without letting fame go to her head, plus someone who truly cares about people and the world around them. Even celebrities, as blind as we think they are sometimes, desire this type of person in their business. So in that regard, it's more than gravitating to Katharine's voice here in the case of these legends--as overwhelmingly great as Kat's voice is. A legend ultimately adds up to so much more than just one talent. In a way, it can be a detriment to having all these legends at your feet so early. They say when you get to the top that fast--there's nowhere to go but down. Though I think Kat will always keep it consistent as long as it doesn't overwhelm her so much that it brings on too many high expectations. That's a crippling mental problem with performers: Having being placed so high on a pedestal that it's almost impossible to live up to it. The public is strange that way, and I hope they don't do that...as well as those legendary performers. Out of all those legends, I'm the happiest with Kat's association with Andrea Bocelli. He knows Kat's voice well and wants to champion preserving it and using it in the best possible ways. He should be a friend and advisor for years to come...even when he's singing arias in the old people's home in Italy someday. The most bizarre association is probably Donald Trump. At least there, Kat could be one of the first people who knows what it's like to run your fingers through The Donald's hair. Well, he'd let Kat do that, wouldn't he?

Greg- I agree with you. It's difficult when expectations are created so high that it's impossible to live up to, and when the artist has the weight of having to live up to those expectations. The good think about Kat is -- although self critical -- she's probably less likely to think she's in a class of certain singers or celebrities. She's shown all the signs of maintaining her self identity from pre-idol. She doesn't see herself like the best thing since sliced bread (even though we know she is).
