Hi all,

As most of you know, Katharine's fanbase is going to put together the most robust, expansive effort a fan base has ever done for their icon.  It will be called Katpedia.com.

It's an online encyclopedia documenting everything about Katharine's career. It will have chapters on each week of AI, with text, photos, video. It will have specific chapters on things such as bulimia, the Dr. Keith Show, The Ghost of Mrs. Muir.

The objective is to document history and preserve it forever. The web is a tangled place. Forums are messy. We want to organize everything we've come across about Katharine from the web and on forums in one spot.  We want to make sure nothing slips into oblivion, never to be found again.

Phase I of the process with be just knowing our "personnel." Our human resources as a fan base.  Phase II will be identifying what tasks need to be completed, and then making task requests to people based on their strengths. We want to make sure we use everyone to their strengths. Allow them to contribute in the manner they want to contribute. Moreover, we want to make sure nobody is assigned too much work. It is crucial to us that nobody has to bear to big of a burden, and any efforts you put into this project are manageable.  We are hoping for 100 volunteers, and are already planning an easy web-based/email-based system to allow us to all easily know what tasks have been requested of us, know what tasks other people are working on, know what tasks have been completed, etc etc.

Our objective is to make this as simple and userfriendly as possible, with no more technical experise required than you need to operate in this forum.

We want to archive every photo we can, every magazine scan, every television and radio interview we can. We want to transcribe televised interview and break down articles based on category. So for instance, if Katharine in an article mentions the yellow dress, we want you to be able to cut and paste that text into a form online and add it to the category "Yellow Dress."  When one of our writers writes about the Yellow Dress (yes it gets its own chapter), they simply can pull up the Yellow Dress and instantly have reseach at their finger tips to integrate.

We are documenting history as it happened, so nothing will be lost. This is a wonderful way to allow people to celebrate Katharine, because to know her is to love her. I am sure we can educate people all over the world what a courageous, sweet, talented girl she is.

What we're looking to do now is to create a list of  skills/areas of expertise/areas one excels at or enjoys  that we can list as "checkable" boxes on the volunteer registration form that will be going up this week.  So we need YOUR feedback as to what these categories should be.

It can be ripping videos, treasure hunting (googling and finding stuff), writing, uploading pictures, resizing pictures, magazine scans, owning DIVX videos, collecting/owning TV interviews. Since this is such a huge project we basically need to identify every possible facet of the operation, so we can then know our personnel, and can divide up work in an efficient and fruitful manner.

If everyone can brainstorm and provide us with a list of skills/areas of expertise/areas one excels at or enjoys, it would be very helpful to the process of creating a volunteer database. I don't just mean what you personally do best, but what all the different types of things people can do. When you think about those things, try to break them down. For instance, photos may be that you want to collect photos or that you are good at croping photos. or that you have a huge online Kat photo album. Try to really get in depth because we want to make sure when people sign up, they can be specific about what they can bring/want to bring to the project.

Knowing our personnel will be a huge asset once we get the ball rolling.

Thanks so much.

Kenneth,
Like I said I would love to at least submit a header for the site. Some other things that I could do is crop photos, resize them, the the background out of them, basically anything with Adobe Photshop would be my favorite things to do, I could also catagorize articles or photos. My email is lauren_arndt17@yahoo.com if you need anything like that. Some things that maybe other people might want to do are:

- Type up TV interviews
- Keep a list of when Kat will be in Magazines or on TV
- A list of Kat's top songs, what place they were on Charts
- A list of any auditions that she might be attending
- Create a Photo gallery of her

Hope that I can help!

As I said before, I have most of her performances on AI here in Divx format... there's also a couple of them in HD, which is even better =) So I'll be glad to contribute with that. And as Paulie said, I'll help with Portuguese translations =) I can download and upload stuff too... I'll think if there's something else I can do!

well...i have well over a 1000, probably 2000 or more, pics of kat on my computer...just collected from when idol started...i am great at correspondence--i saw that as a category...um--i can crop, resize, and edit photos...though i am SURE that others are way better at things like that than i am, because i have seen some HD pics and videos online that are great, so there's that.  um...i am willing to do whatever needs to be done as far as anything really!  ha  i love to search for things and FIND THEM...ha and i love to try to keep people up to date on things as well--though i know that many people find things out before i do as far as appearances and so forth, so there are probably better people than me for that as well.  i have every episode of idol recorded from the beginning of season 5 to the end, and then every kat appearance afterwards that was aired, except the early show--didn't catch that one unfortunately.  there are so many categories for this, it's insane, so whatever it takes, count me in!  i think this is a great idea to make sure the most accurate information is out there so people are not led astray when wanting to know something or see something about kat--should be and sounds like fun!    just e-mail me with any questions--i'll get back to you probably right away or at least that same day!

Well, I could probably do a little of everything on that list if I had more time (other than media capturing--because I don't have the software). But I'll keep it simple and whittle it down to three basic things I can supply: Writing (I hear a chorus of "D'oh's"! ), graphic art work that involves making headers/banners and photo cropping, and then scanning of things from magazines or other publications. My scanner, though, needs to be upgraded (it's not a digital scanner)--so maybe that should be passed on to someone else who has a better scanner. We obviously want the best possible scans on Katpedia.

I hope you'll get 100 volunteers for this project, because it's the only way something this monumental will get underway. Though I don't think we have that many regulars here on the board. Most of the people who post every day probably only equals about 20 or 30 people. So that means the volunteers who signed up here might end up having more to do than they intended. While I want to volunteer as much as possible--I am pressed for time most days until the late-night hours. Most of my contributions would have to be at off-hours that others will have to help pick up the slack during the times I'm not available at all. Creating things over time that can be used later works the best for me (i.e. making headers/banners, writing things in advance, etc.)

If that sort of creative work from me can apply to this--then it'll make it a lot easier on my end. I guess there's no real deadlines involved in this project, so I hope that scenario I mentioned is workable.

Once we start getting to work on these things and figure out how much time it'll involve, I can probably add on to doing more depending on how easy it is with the other things. But I have a feeling that since we may get less than 100 volunteers--it might involve a lot more work for some people. However, that's fine as long as it doesn't interfere with people's lives. And I think we all have those, right?

Again, this is really an incredible idea, Ken--and I hope it can turn into how a lot of us envision it.

I already posted on the other one but...

Anything to do with writing I can do, finding pictures, interviews, all that stuff...I can do that.  I can cap pictures from videos although I'm guessing we have other better than me at that.  Basically, I'll be a part of the writing crew.  And yeah, that we'll probably just be going as fast as we can...that's good.  Don't want to deal with deadlines on this.

I'm here LOL  can't think of anything more to say right now but I'm definitely with you on this project

Greg, you'll probably be asked to write some stuff and maybe research as well.  The plan is to create a database where text can be put into a dialogue box and then a category can be selected from a drop down menu. When the writer goes to write about something, the whole team of researchers have basically done all the research for them.

Research will be the biggest and most important effort. If we can have that database than we are golden. There are 1400 pages on the AI boards to go through (we'll divide it up as signifcantly as we can) and I don't want people reading every thread, but going to each page and looking for interesting threads.

Yesterday, I went through 2 pages of IDF and 20 pages of AI.com. I just put stuff in notepad for now. Here's what I saved (it will be entered into a database in a cleaner fashion once that's up)

Odds Makers High on Katharine to win AI, Latest from PinnacleSports
 Mar 10th 2006, 4:30 PM

Just a tidbit...

The recent odds update at PinnacleSports.com now show Katharine as the 2nd favorite to win

the competition behind Chris Daughtry (+306). Katharine's odds have dropped from +640 to +480

in the last day. That means before you would've risked $100 to win $640, now you're risking

$100 to win $480. The next person behind Katharine is Mandisa at +601.

Pinnacle Sports became the first sportsbook in the world to offer betting on the hit reality

series by offering individual odds on the final 24 Idol contestants in mid-February. With

11. Katharine McPhee: For Katharine, the best story is how her fellow contestants fear her.

They constantly talk about what a disaster it would be if they ever chose the same song Kat

picked. Fear is definitely the operative word.

Crytal Stark on Katharine

Which female performer impressed you?
CS: Mandisa and Katharine (McPhee) did really great. Mandisa's song (Chaka Khan — "I'm Every

Woman") — it's a risk to try to pull off Chaka Khan/Whitney Houston and she did it.

Katharine, hers was really solid and strong and fun, but I did think she played it safe. I'm

thinking, "Was she scared because of what happened last week?"

To actress Katharine McPhee, who plays Annie Oakley for her first professional performance,

the revised version of the play offers a stronger portrayal of the legendary shooting ace.

“For me, when I saw the movie (adapted from the original musical) I found it had a lot of

stereotypical things about Indians, but women too,” she said.

Mc Phee, of Sherman Oaks, said she noticed the underlying message of the older play was for

women to be put in their place.

In both the original and the revised play, Annie is pressured to give up her dream of

becoming Buffalo Bill’s Wild West’s gun-slinging star to be with her rival and love interest

Frank Butler.

“At the end of it, Good old Annie gives up her dreams to be with her man,” she said, “But in

our show we make sure both lovers sacrifice something so they can be together. It’s more

about equality.”

McPhee promises theatergoers will still see a very strong-willed and fiery Annie Oakley when

the musical opens.

“What’s good about the story is that Annie decides she’s not going to be the way Frank wants

her to be, she says ‘No I’m going to be my own person, my own star.’”

Top 12 Week -- Stevie Wonder

She just talked about what a great experience it was, how exciting it was that Stevie was

going to be there tonight, she didn't know what song Kat was singing but that she was really

happy about it. Um, they've been really busy this week with the stylists, song, fod

commercial, and she THINKS they're singing with Stevie but isn't 100% sure. Ummers, she's

gotten letters and support from fans, one mentioned her smile made her happy and her mom

thought that was a great compliment and...she will be in the audience this week...I don't

know what else lol.
