To compliment Kat's choreographic talent, thought I'd attempt to list the wonderfully varied ways that Kat uses her vocal skills! Her spontaneity rules and we never know when she'll throw in a little yell or a scat or a yodeling falsetto!Kat can sound sweet(like you know she's smiling) or husky and then there's that heart-wrenching little cry sound and how about the complex riffs or melismas?Kat's great ability to harmonize is so evident in her Bocelli,Tay and Mr.Loaf duets!!What is really incredible is Kat's natural ability to meld the vocal with the kinetic; thus producing these intuitive, energetic performances that are always surprising and new!!Anyone thinking of other Kat sounds I missed???

I'm still not sure what it is she does at the end of the a cappella part of SOTR - the raaaaaaiiiiinnnn note, it becomes ethereal (ethereal = other worldly), I've never heard anything like it before. Usually poor quality video sound, the crowd, the musicians, seem to always prevent me from quite hearing what it is she is doing.... Dang live performances!

And of course at the end or SOTR the very jazzy low notes she does - the sort of "oooh yeah yeah a woa a wooooaaaaa" but once again, the audience is drowning it out because they are still cheering from the so called "false end" before the final "if happy little blue birds fly"..

Damn you, American Idol audience, why can't you just ST*U until she is finished?????

I guess we'll hear it all once she gets to the studio.

I just got back from the Portland, Oregon concert. And I heard Kat do something I haven't heard her do before on Over the Rainbow.

On her last big note she finished it by going up an octave. Now I have no musical education so I don't know if that is what you call it or not. But Greg went to the show too and he knows some of that stuff so maybe he could tell us.

That is my question for Greg.

That's right--Kat went up an octave on the "I..." in Portland--or at least on the last four beats. And I think she holds that "I" note for about 12 beats(!) total. Though there was a melisma on that octave jump (a melisma is like saying "me-e-e-e-li-i-i-i-i-i-sm-m-m-ma" ), which is what Kat
