MAN did she look gorgeous!

At first she had on a floor-length black evening dress.  She looked absolutely fantastic.  The shots of her on the big screen behind the stage were breathtaking. She started out with BHCT...it was so easy for her.  The mark of an outstanding singer.  The voice just comes out.

Then she sang "Rainbow"...that was also outstanding.  She didn't add the vocal fireworks she did on AI, or the single, but still, she didn't have to.  Besides, I think she was taking good care of her voice...which is the wise thing to do.  Doctors orders she said.

She was moving around really well. At first I thought that her ankle was all better, but I didn't think it could heal up that quickly, even with modern medical science.

Then she "gave us the boot"

Stunning beauty in a stunning evening dress...and a clunky ankle boot.  It was pretty funny.  Typical Kat.

I think it started bothering her toward the end of the show, because she wasn't limping at first, but she started limping a little toward the end of the show.

The audience was really polite...one of my biggest fears was somebody from another camp saying something rude during her set, but everything was good.

However, they were kind of rude during Elliott's set.  He sang this serious jazzy ballad.  I mean it was GOOD...and the people talking in the audience almost drowned him out.  Oh well, so much for serious jazz.

All in all, a good night.  I feel like I've completed a journey of sorts, between the beginning of AI and now.

My hearing is beginning to come back too.  Not from the volume of the music, but there wer about eight teenage Chris fans behind me screaming their heads off.  300 decibels I think.

Thanks for the first review of the Detroit show. And glad to hear Kat was in great form tonight. Did you take any pictures? We're going to add your recap to KatsConcerts.

We are definitely working together -- working on a record together. She sings so magnificently, it's just amazing -David Foster-

Hi Pastorel,

I am so glad you had such a good time at the concert in Detroit! I will be seeing Katharine on Friday, in Louisville, KY. Unfortunately, I also wasn't able to get backstage passes, but I will enjoy the concert just the same. Someday I hope to meet her in person.

I also wonder if I will have any hearing left afterwards.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

My hearing is beginning to come back too.  Not from the volume of the music, but there wer about eight teenage Chris fans behind me screaming their heads off.  300 decibels I think.

I'm hoping the screamer contingents will be in another section when I go to the Portland show. Tinnitus usually comes on after not being able to hear anything after the show---and everybody around you sounds like Minnie Mouse in the immediate term after hearing 300 decibels of sound.

Thanks, Pastorel, for your well-done Detroit review. You really captured the excitement and magic that Kat brings to every single person in the audience. Her entrance during 'Black Horse' must be chill-inducing live (it certainly is on video)...especially when you hear the "2...3...4." Hopefully that's also a subtle hint that 3 or maybe 4 songs are coming to her set list soon.

It's strange that some people in every city still gasp when they see Kat's boot cast and her telling about breaking her foot. That seems to be proof that people aren't catching up on all news about her. And it's not just known here. It was broadcast in the media weeks ago. A lot of people just don't have time to read news apparently. At least it makes the story and situation fresher and more surprising for people attending there. For those of us who watch the vids of the shows every night...it's interesting to see how Kat approaches it each night.

Hopefully you have some vids taken from the show tonight that we'll see tomorrow. Analyzing Kat's different takes on 'BH' and 'OtR' are becoming a near-nightly habit and enjoyable experience for those of us musicians who find it interesting. Kat shows herself as the ultimate professional making two songs that might bore some artists singing them every night seem interesting and always musically complex.

I know...it does seem funny that she still needs to tell everybody about missing three weeks at the beginning and then breaking her foot in Charlotte a couple weeks ago.  We're all so locked in on everything that we forget that not everybody follows this stuff so religiously.

I mean I couldn't really tell you what's going on with the other Idols on Tour other than bits and pieces.  I'm purposely not viewing any of their performances because I don't want to take away from them when I get to see them live.  I can't resist on Katharine's and it seeing all of those won't take away from anything (well...maybe any surprises but...although my surprise will be NO BOOT ON THE FOOT...hopefully)...I know I'll love her no matter how many times I've seen them.

Anyway, I am starting to become resigned to the fact that Katharine isn't going to do more than two songs until she's out of that boot.  Because I don't understand why she isn't doing more than two at this point.  She's getting around pretty well from what I've seen (except for going up the ramp in LIA).

Nice to hear from Detroit...did we get anything from Grand Rapids last night?  I didn't see anything.

Only six more shows until Katharine's Homecoming!

"I saw Katharine McPhee when there were about 12 contestants left on American Idol. She blew me away. I loved her grace, her style, her poise, her voice and her hair! I wanted her to be the face of Sexy Hair because she represented everything that I had in my head for the brand: youth, beauty, talent, class, a young sophistication, and sexiness." -- Jim Morrison, CEO of Sexy Hair Products.

Nah, pictures woulsn't have worked.  We were on the other side of the arena in the upper level.  I had my binoculars with me though.  besides bringing a camera in with a decent telephoto lens would have been a pain anyway.  Security is pretty tight

Well I'll tell you.  The decibel level of the screaming gets up there on the scale.  Especially when Taylor, Elliott, or Chris come out.

I look on the bright side of her doing two songs...its saving her voice...and if I were performing in that show (and if I were one of the girls) I would NOT be wearing heels.  Way too treacherous. Up and down the ramps, stairs, wiring.

Might wear mountain climbing boots

Too bad they dissed Elliott though, he's a talented kid.
