Author Claims Clay Aiken Tried To Stifle Sales Of Book

Woman Claims Singer, Mother Call Stories Lies

POSTED: 11:17 am EDT August 7, 2006

The author of an unauthorized tribute to Clay Aiken claimed that the singer tried to quash sales of her book.

Jeannie Holleman said that she is a lifelong friend of a family in Raleigh who took in Aiken and his mother, Faye Parker, when they left Parker's alleged abusive husband.

Holleman's book, "Out of the Blue -- 'Clay' It Forward," uses interviews from the McGhee family and stories from Aiken fans.

Holleman has filed suit, claiming Aiken and his mother tried to depress sales of her book by calling her stories lies and demeaning the book on Aiken fan sites.

She also claimed that Aiken's bodyguard manhandled her at a fundraiser in Hawaii and that the McGhees have distanced themselves from her because of the dispute.

Holleman is demanding at least $260,000 in damages.

She also wants the court to order the "American Idol" Season 2 runner-up to issue a retraction of the critical comments or endorse the book on his Web site, to write a positive introduction for the book and to sell the book at his shows for at least five years.

Representatives for Parker and for Aiken could not be reached for comment.
