Hope.

Such a small little word. Such a huge concept. Such a beautiful name.

Katharine Hope McPhee.

Her little known middle name, given by parents with hopes of their own, defines for me just what she has become over the last few months. The very idea that her name is so descriptive of what she gives to so many has renewed my faith in the powers that be and the way  that destiny and life work hand in hand to define purpose.

A few of the many things her middle name means to me:

Hope for the young girls and women who wish to pursue their dreams, and wonder if such a thing is possible.

Hope for the many who face life's challenges with dedication and hard work, and wonder if anyone is paying attention.

Hope for the criticized, who wonder if it is possible to carry on when feeling so dejected.

Hope for those who suffer from health issues, and wonder if they will ever be healthy again.

Hope for the ones who suffer from self-image problems, and wonder if anyone will ever see them for who they really are.

Hope for parents who question where society is going today, and wonder if there is room anymore for good children.

Hope for people who have almost given up on the ideas of goodness and character, and wonder if there is any left to be found.

Hope for some who strive day to day in drudgery, and wonder if work and fun can be enjoyed at the same time.

Hope for those who compete and just miss the mark, and wonder if their life will forever be defined by the loss.

Hope for the discouraged, who wonder if trying one more time is really worth the effort.

I have seen Katharine's role in each of these issues, and I have seen her overcome each one with grace and determination.  I’m sure that each of you see hope in many other ways that further define just what Katharine means to you. Share your hope, and get busy making it a reality.

Her middle name is her defining character. Her middle name is the beacon that shines for others looking to avoid the rocks that life places in the entrances to our safe harbors. Her middle name is the most important thing that Katharine gives to all of us.

 Hope.

Katharine's summer is full of hope, full of potential, and promises to provide many bouquets to grace the home that I call my heart.

KatFan49,
Wow! Thank you for writing such inspirational and thoughtful posts both here and on the AI Boards, by doing so you bring awareness to subjects/topics we take for granted. I always have hope, how can we live life without it?  And, I agree Hope is the perfect middle name for our lovely Ms. Katharine.

Katfan49,
Sometimes in life, there are things that happen to us, that really make us think about what we're doing. What you just wrote above, struck me as one of those messages that we're supposed to receive at certain times in our lives. Thank you for that post, and thanks to our Katharine Hope McPhee for being the inspiration for that post. I find it pretty special to be inspired just by being a fan of someone that we all ... love.

Krazy about you, Kat!!! You're an Angel on Earth!

I was thinking the same thing Trina! 'Hope' would be a beautiful, inspirational poem to include in the book of poetry we're making for Kat. Please visit the Katharine Projects forum to check it out!

katfan49, sorry for my absence on the AI boards. I got banned for posting a link, and feel guilty about not being on there. in fact, i feel like a lot of regulars are no longer there, and that's not a good thing. it's important all of our fan base are unified rather than segmented.

That piece reminds me of something high-quality that'd be read during a Presidential inauguration. Of course, that's up to you which future President you're thinking of --but we need that word 'hope' more than ever in the world now. And it needs to be made a reality and not just part of something unattainable. You really give hope to hope existing in a way that's already making a difference, Don. Really another great essay to show how Kat--and all of us involved within the meaning behind what she's doing--is making a big difference in the betterment of humanity.

I have a feeling the McPhee family had a premonition that Kat would be something out of the ordinary when she was born. It's almost eerie sometimes how mothers (especially) have a sixth-sense about their child's future...even what the gender of their child will be before getting the physical evidence. Those premonitions sometimes get creatively expressed in a middle name. Of course, that's speculation, but it'd be interesting to know what Dan and Peisha had in mind when giving that middle name to Kat.

Yes, I could probably write music to those words. I'm always writing songs--but not always writing lyrics to go with music that have abstract words in my mind over the notes. But I see this as being a stand-alone publishable piece somewhere, Don. Maybe you've already published some poems or essays, though I can give you some tips on how to get them published if you're looking into that.

Mothers do indeed have that instinct, Greg.  Your comment brings back memories of when my wife was pregnant with our son, and some of the random comments she would make, almost as if she already had a post-birth relationship with him.  Uncanny.  Of course I, being the male idiot, used to look at her sideways and say, "OOOOKay".  I've learned a lot about mothers' intuition since then.  It's something that us men could use more of.  But then again, I have an uncanny ability to sometimes know that the next pass thrown will be a touchdown.  Whenever I say this, she looks at me and says, "OOOOKay." She has a lot to learn.

Haven't thought of publishing anything, Greg.  I just do this for the fun of it, and well...anything's possible I suppose.

Just a passing thought - if you're a Katharine Lunatic can you get 7 blue stars under your name?

Um...Kat's great grandmother? Just a wild guess...

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for getting me past another week. Only 7 more weeks to go! Let's see what we can do!!

I know some of you were wondering about my middle name. It is Hope! It was the name of my great grandmother. She was an amazing woman. My great grandfather owned a gas station and he died very young, so my great grandmother, Hope, was left to raise 4 kids . She worked three jobs as a librarian, a dental assistant and a secretary, but her real love and hobby was painting and pottery. My family said she was always filled with alot of "Hope".

Thank you again so much for your support, it means the world to me.

I love you all,

Katharine

Oh brother...the McPheever Amnesia Virus has just now hit my state.

Thanks for reminding me of that, Hawk. I remember that as well as my own name. And now Kat's great-grandmother will probably swat me from somewhere on the head tonight.

Back to KatFan49's comment on our mother's intuition: While I had to be reminded that Hope was a planned middle name for Kat--I still think that they suspected the word would have a different meaning for her down the road. S
