Queen and Rod Stewart just doesn't make any sense.  The #1 voters, the 14 year old power voters of the world, weren't even alive when these guys were popular (I wasn't even alive for Queen in their prime and I am 26).  This year's AI isn't as good as last year because of the song choices, and the themes aren't helping that.  I'm sure some of you are diehard Queen and Rod Stewart fans, but neither of them would win American Idol, and that is the purpose of this show.

I like the Country theme, and it is justified with Carrie winning AI last year.  I would like to see maybe a Rock theme, an R&B theme, or if you HAVE to pick a group or singer, pick someone a little more "current".  Decades are good too.

What do you guys think?

I heard they were talking about a past "Idols" theme. Soooo I guess they'll all be singing Clarkson or Underwood songs.
I would really like to see something more current that is going to be a reflection on what their first album might be. Something from the 90's would be sweet.....Do a little Pearl Jam or Nirvana theme......hellsyeah.

Its actually good, to make the new generations aware of songs from these legends, it is slipping away....

But in terms of 'excitement' for the themes.... im slacking in that departement... i cant explain it....

I forgot this show was suppose to be educational.  After last night, I went out and read up on them and bought all of Queen's CDs.

I am now aware that I wouldn't have liked them back then either.

I am with Slice - if you can't put it on an album and sell it, then don't sing it.

I thought that the songs of the 21st century theme was the worst. I know they pretty much showed us what kind of songs they would put on a CD, but the judges always criticize people for doing contemporary stuff. That week we had to watch an entire show of it. Queen is a great rock group, but the theme limits the singers a lot. Rod Stewart will be a little easier just because his songs are more of a singer's type of song as Simon may put it. I've always wondered about a past Idols theme, but there would be some seriously harsh comparisons going on. =)

I think the themes have been tough for the last three shows. C'mon, Queen? Is there even a cover band that can do them? Hey, don't get me wrong, I like Queen, but when I heard they were doing them as a theme, I had a hard time imaging what these contestants were gonna do. The country theme fit Kellie and Bucky well, but for the rest, you could tell it wasn't their comfort zone. And for the 21st century week, that was all their own fault for the choices they made. Song choice IS a key factor in who is going to do well.

Krazy about you, Kat!!! You're an Angel on Earth!

I like Stevie Wonder, Queen and Rod Stewart...but I don't think any of them should have a specific Theme Night dedicated to their music.

I don't mind so much the genre themes...Country, Rock, R+B, because it gives the contestants greater laltitude to express themselves...but I'm most interested in hearing what the individual performers would like to sing...it's their stage...their opportunity to show the world what they've got...let them choose.

To be honest, nothing is wrong with the theme. Good singers can sing anything. There are not enough talents in the AI5. IMO, too many entertainers but few good singers.
