BUT IT WAS WORTH IT!

As some of u might know, I am a 16 year old guy...  when I bought a People magazine with Kirsty Ally as the main person on the cover, the guy working at 7-11 looked at me like I just bought a gay porno.

Anyways...

PEOPLE WAS AMAZING!!!  SHE WAS SO HOT!!!  GOOD FOR HER GETTING PAST THAT DIFFICULT TIME IN HER LIFE!

WE LOVE YOU KAT,

PAUL

PS everybody post your buying People stories

Stand proud and don't worry about what anyone thinks. There is no explanation necessary fellas. Katharine is definitely worth a little discomfort, plus People magazine is a popular magazine. Nothing to be embarrassed about. I work at a library and the magazine is popular with guys and girls. Who cares, what the clerk thinks, even about the Teen People Magazine. Stand proud and smile, let them think what they want. It's all good!!!!

The people at Target thought I was crazy!!! My sister and I were looking for PERFECT magazines...we had to get two: one for the archives, and one to cut up!

So, I didn't think I could love Katharine any more than I already did...I was COMPLETELY wrong!!! That article made me cry so much! I was truly inspired by what she had to say and how she put it! If nothing else, Katharine has become such a great role model for young women EVERYWHERE!!!

KAT IN GLASSES!!!

It is an absolutely wonderful article, and Katharine coming out so openly will only help young woman and even some young men. She is the best kind of a role model in this day and age when there isn't many to look up to as role models. I also loved the breathtaking pictures of Katharine. What a natural beauty!! We all love you girl!! You are the best in a world where it is sometimes hard to find goodness. You are that goodness.

Every time a new batch of pictures comes out, one of them always gets the reaction from me "Wow, that's the most gorgeous shot I've seen of her yet." Same this time. The one i Heart Kat has in his avatar is just scrumptious. She looks like a cross beteween Jaclyn Smith and Natalie Wood and still totally herself.

Buy at KMart. The cashiers are rushed, tired, and could give less of a *bleep* who buys what as long as the register rings it up correctly so they don't have to call a supervisor and tie up the line and make problems.

Just tell the cashier that your a guy, and you bought the magazine because you think shes hot.

I guess its a guy thing.  Just like when a guy has to buy tampons they are embarassed, and all.

Hahaha, I'm 15 an heck, I had to swallow my pride and "muster every ounce of confidence I had" just to get the mag. It's a good thing that the clerk didn't look at me or anything. It's worth it! Ahhhhh!

I'm a 19 y/o guy, but I've gotten past being embarassed about buying magazines. I'm a huge fan of Emmy Rossum as well, and she has had a lot of publicity in the past few years so I bought everything from Us Weekly to Seventeen, lol. The trend will continue with Katharine, the first Idol that I've loved enough to buy any magazine with even the smallest mention of.

And what a GREAT article, with beautiful pictures! I thought she looked so incredibly cute at age 16. But what Kat had to say really impressed me.

Ya know, I really don't care what kinda looks I get from some checkout clerk who don't know me and I don't know him/her. Especially if Kat's on the cover, and they can't see the attraction, well ... I feel sorry for em!

LOL SirCritic, good point. I always think of it as free publicity. If Katharine McPhee is on the cover, they'll notice her as they scan the magazine. WOOT, another potential McPhan

Well, buying Teen People with Kat on the cover doesn't look good for a 49 year old dad no matter how you cut it. You can SAY you're buying it for your daughter, but they're like "yeah, right buddy".

<-----BTW, just found this great new pic of Kat. Wow, they keep getting better and better!

Here's one way I learned to fight against 'the stare' from counter employees, Bill: Just be truthful and tell the employee that you're a fan of the person on the magazine. Maybe it's different if you're older and the employee is younger, but if there's multiple checkout lines--pick the one who's maybe closer to your age.  Usually when I tell them I'm buying the mag as a fan--you might be able to start up a conversation about it. Sometimes they'll answer: "Oh really? So am I!" And even if they don't, having a convo breaks the ice and shows you're not some pervert who's trying to cover up something.

So, just try that method and see what happens. If nothing else, start talking about something else. People always get suspected of being strange if they're too quiet, and striking up a convo when buying something that doesn't fit your demographic usually works for me.  You might be surprised that the employee is a fan of Katharine's anyway. That might be more likely if the employee you encounter is a teen who's working in the store as a summer job.  The teen demographic seems to be growing in Kat's favour.

After I said all that, I'll now become the Benedict Arnold of the board and say: I'm having someone pick up the issue for me next week.  But, there's a small chance that might fall through and I'll have to put my old abilities I mentioned above back into practice...considering it's been a while since I've bought a mag outside my typical demographic.

Once I get the smuggled goods--I'll scan that Teen People for here. But someone will probably beat me to it.

Honestly, you shouldn't care what the person at the cash register thinks. It may seem even more weird if you try to explain to them why you're buying the magazine. First of all, they probably won't even care themselves and secondly, even if they do, what does that really matter? I have a friend that works at Target, and whenever I would tell her that I wanted to buy so-and-so magazine because someone I was a fan of was on the cover, she told me not to be embarassed because the people checking you out have a lot weirder customers come through their aisles everyday.

So fear not!

I bought the magazine last night at Barnes and Nobles and I have nothing to be embarassed. In fact, I'm so proud of Kat that I'm prepared for people to initiate the question and I would tell them why she is such a sweetheart. Will you be ashamed or embarassed if your own daughter were in the cover of the magazine? It's the same theory. Also, nobody really cares about who is buying what in a store that has so many customers. Do you know how many Playboy or Penthouse magazines they sold a day? There are countless of people everyday buying more weird stuffs than us buying a magazine with a pretty face in the cover.

Hey Peeps--My dear hubby twisted his ankle today, so when I remembered that we had NO "People" Magazine (arrrgh!!!) I had to dash out to my classic white Jeep, and off to the store me and my little white dog went!
I got one of the THREE copies left, and when I arrived breathless at the checkout with only milk, soda, and "People", I calmly told the youngster that I wanted to get the MAGAZINE because Our Girl Katharine McPhee was in it, and I had been following her path since she first appeared on the scene at AI. She looked at me like I had two heads though....
Thanks for the compliments on the avatar, Groucho; I snatched that one up as soon as I saw it---the first one that really caught me eye. I love yours too Bill. I will never be embarrassed to buy anything involving Kat: even if I sit in the midst of screaming young'uns....

Love and hugs--Heavenmom xoxoxo
