I've been following & writing about showbiz and entertainment news for about 20 years and can't remember someone becoming a supernova & CNN calling her 'Americas Sweetheart' as fast as Katharine in 3-4 weeks. (from being a complete unknown 4 months ago) Even Kelly Clarkson didn't have paparazzi following her when she won, I guess the closest thing I could compare to Kat is Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman or Tom Cruise in Top Gun becoming worldwide stars overnight. Anyone think of some others?

Reese Witherspoon sort of became a big movie star overnight in Sweet Home Alabama but everyone was kind of expecting it already, same with Matt Damon in the Bourne Supremacy movies

I think Reese's big break was Legally Blonde, not Sweet Home Alabama.
You'll notice that most of these shooting star examples are movie actors. I think in the world of celebrity, movie stars are on placed a higher tier than musicians. For proof, just take note of who makes the covers of most magazines and who gets the most mentions in entertainment shows.
If Kat gets a role in even a moderately successful movie, and she will someday (hopefully soon), I expect expect her star to rise so far above anyone from American Idol it's any comparisons are going to be ridiculous.
This is why Kat is such a multiple threat. She has singing talent, movie star looks, some acting experience and training, theatrical experience, and she is also ideally suited to be a commercial spokesperson/model. The future is unbelievably bright for Kat.

Who are all of these people? Are they as famous as Kat?
This is amazing, while I type this I am listening to Pandora.com playing Eva Cassidy OTR. It is really good but I still like Kat's better. She just does something with her voice that...I really can't explain now.
Speaking of Pandora.com, Kats handlers should get MD and OTR on the playlist. Also download.com; Madonna had "Hung Up" streaming on download.com before it came out. Right now, exposure is key and Kat should look at alternates to conventional radio.
I know that I haven't listened to anything but internet radio or Pandora for over a year now (except in the car).

Reese Witherspoon started acting in major motion pictures from when she was only a teenager. Though obviously not as well-known, she was a successful actress long before Legally Blonde.
Meg Ryan was also a successful actress long before she became a household name. She was in Top Gun, btw.
Even Julia Roberts was in Mystic Pizza before she hit it really big in Pretty Woman.
Tom Cruise was in Endless Love, Taps, All the Right Moves, Risky Business, etc... before Top Gun.
Tobey Maguire was a child actor.
So Kat really is in a different category.
"Haha! I love your comments. You just wait there will be more of Kat in Glasses! ha! I love the pic of Nena in glasses. DID you do that? Clever is so! XX kat"

Kat's the shooting star--that turned into beautiful fireworks in the Fourth of July sky.
I think the week of the Fourth will be another high plateau when her singles chart high and she starts the tour to rave reviews.
We have to consider that something called television played a big factor in Kat's becoming such a huge phenomenon so fast. 'AI', with all its major faults, has a lot of positives in the promotion of people who wouldn't ordinarily get that much promotion all at once. It's amazing to me that something as archaic and common as TV can still be a major source for getting you known. A couple of years ago, some thought TV was dying by way of promotion on the internet. But it seems to be going the other way lately. People are congregating to watch at least one show on TV together. Maybe 'AI' is the only show getting high ratings, but it makes TV still a relevant source.
Basically, Kat getting so well known so fast is something people like Julia Roberts or Reese Witherspoon would have loved to have had in the beginning. Had they made a profound impression on a show like 'AI' ('American Actor?'), they could have taken off sooner. The early movies they were in probably didn't get enough promotion or audience--so it took them a little longer to get noticed when people rented those movies on DVD. And that says a lot about the promotion of movies vs. TV. Marketing is everything. If you appear on a show already established in the ratings, you have it made. In a movie, people have to know something about you in advance in order to go see it.
While Kat had a love/hate relationship with 'AI'--it's probably a good idea that Kat's showing the positives of the show. It helped her get discipline in her diet--as well as unprecendented exposure that any wannabe star on planet earth would want.
I guess that means longer lines at the 'AI' auditions next year. Just when you thought people wouldn't care about the show next year...
