Yesterday, in my mail, I received an autographed picture of Katharine McPhee.

In May, after "American Idol", I wrote a letter to Katharine, and yesterday I received my picture of her, which says:

To William:

Katharine McPhee.

Did anyone write to Katharine and get a picture of her autographed?

Yes I got one today... seems she is really trying to connect with her fanbase...it is so nice to see some one so talented have so mcuh appreciation for her fans. I sent my letter in may also.

There were a couple people on the 'AI board today doubting that Kat wrote the letters Chad gets from Kat. Well, Kat said that she was going to send out autograph replies--and people getting them in the mail couldn't be more proof. Of course, the 'AI' board is pretty much filled with people now who just haven't gone far enough to be a part of the good side. It's pretty bizarre over there having people spending time posting about Kat, but say they aren't that big of fans.

That's great, William, you got a reply back. Ditto for the other poster above who received one today--and I saw your post over on the 'AI' board earlier. There's a lot of us who sent quite a few letters and gifts during the 'AI' run, but were told not to send autograph requests because of Kat being busy. Of course, she couldn't turn down the ones she got...and she's obviously honouring them now while she can.

My general tendency is to not ask for autographs anyway. In my opinion, talking with the person is much more meaningful and sticks with you forever. A signature on a piece of paper fades, despite being a great collector's item and maybe worth a fortune when the person becomes a superstar. Not that anybody would sell it anyway...or so we hope. Since some might not get a chance to talk to Kat (I hope we all will eventually), the autograph is obviously the next best thing.

Anyway, in the off-chance Kat responds to some our letters, I don't know when she'll be able to. I really don't expect she'll ever be able to as amazing as it would be. If she does it while on those long rides in the tour bus, I hope they don't run over a large pothole as Kat's writing one out.

You can't always trust that the autograph you're buying, though, is the actual one being signed in the photo. I know people buy autographs all the time on eBay--but there's definitive proof (and reports) that say about 80% of autographs there are fake. It's so easy to take pre-print autographs and make it look real. Or, take a real autograph and transfer it to an identical 8x10 publicity photo. The worst fakes are for the dead legends like Marilyn Monroe, James Dean or Elvis that can go for major bucks and can be a lucrative business. Kat's sig value is probably under $25 at the moment--though that could change in another year. Just to make a buck, though, chances it's a fake are something to consider.

Oh, and those COD's they put in there are ridiculous. It seems a piece of paper that looks official (and says the sig is official) can sell anybody.

No wonder so many people start businesses on eBay when you can easily sway people there who tuck away the old phrase 'Caveat Emptor.'

Anyway, if I received an autograph from Kat--it'd be in my possession forever.  But getting it while you visited would be the best scenario of all.

I got an autographed photo from Kat today - I was so excited! During her Idol run I sent her some CDs I made specially for her, as well as a Manhattan Transfer and the new Dixie Chicks CD.

The autograph said: To Colleen, Thanks for the Songs! I love them! <3, Katharine McPhee

I was quite happy!!! I just admire this young woman even more. God, please keep blessing Kat McPhee, we need more people like her in our world.
