Someone made a good point about die hard fans, and how they will stop voting when their idol is gone.  But there have to be a percentage that are American Idol fans, and therefore will participate even after their favorite is gone. 

 

I think it is possible Katharine picked up a good percentage of fans from Mandisa.  I think those 2 have the best vocals of the top 12, and Mandisa's fans probably recognize that.  Katharine also talked about God and what his plans were for her, and I know that Mandisa has strong religous beliefs that she talked about regularly.  So maybe Katharine got some fans from that as well.

I posted to a thread regarding this issue last week wondering if Mandisa Fans on her forums (idolfurms, american idol, etc) were talking about this very issue? Anyone know what is up?

Kat definitely picked up a good hunk of Mandisa votes, along with Paris and elliott as well.

I think Kat/Mandisa/Elliott share a fanbase.  Mandisa & Paris also splited votes. I thought Mandisa fans would help Elliott last week since he was in the bottom 2 weeks ago but I have a feeling that Kat got a lot of supports from the West.  I think next week it's going to be very tough for Kat since Elliott,Paris & Ace are still in the game. I'm not Ace hater, but I hope he'd gone last night.  Cuz Bucky's leaving can only help Chris & Kellie stronger IMO.

I'm not naive enough to suppose this is "just" a singing contest, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth to think somebody would be voting on somebody's supposed piety instead of their talent and showmanship. America's Idol isn't quite the same thing as America's Sweetheart (although if Katharine wins it will amount to about the same thing!).
