Who else here is for Carly Smithson?

I think most of the idols this year are very talented, but something about Carly makes me like her the most. She has my votes! She's an awesome performer who deserves credit for still following her dream after let downs on her previous chance with the career.

Count me in Jennie!

I always liked Carly, but yesterday's performance was just electrifying! The first total female performance this year that I could honestly say gave me goosebumps. Not like Kat, Carly doesn't have that vocal purity. But she has a good range, effortless power, and great musicality. Plus she's really the only one there that knows how to command a stage.

Hey Jennie!   Carly is my favorite by far this season.  I think she could eventually move into the category of "Idol" greats that includes Kelly, Carrie, and obviously Kat.  She's been great so far, but I'm still waiting for her to have that moment.

No she's definitely no Kat. No one will ever be like Katharine, atleast not to me. But I love Carly. She really is awesome.

Hey Bigshady!! Long time no talk!    I hope she moves into that category of Idol greats! That would be awesome, I think she deserves it. I am waiting for her very big moment as well.

I love Carly too. Her performance of the Beatles "Come Together" was awesome. I see so much energy, talent, and a vibrant personality in this girl. She might as well be the ideal winner this year. Vocally, she's the one that comes closest to Kelly Clarkson, indeed, I have to agree. For some reason, we have already patterned future winners after Kelly, who is the flag bearer of idol. Simon said the same thing about Katharine. BTW, Katharine's performance of  "Something" was excellent. I played her youtube clip about 1,000 times already. It was a great feeling to see her perform again.

Last week's performance put me on the Carly bandwagon for sure.  I'm rooting for Carly & David Cook right now.  I like Brooke too.  Those are my three favorites but if you made me put them in order I'd go Carly, David C, Brooke.  I think I've said this before but I'm going to really dislike Archuleta by the time this is over.

I'm waiting for Carly to pull of a really stirring ballad here at some point.  I know she can do it, I've listened to her CD from a previous life.

Carly did really good last night, last week was her better performance still. And her meaning behind the song she chose was so true! It's really nice to see someone voice their opinion on how artist are being put out in this world. I still loved her performance!

Simon was "b-ching" last night, big time. It was an obvious psychological game for him. He wanted to scale how far could a contestant go in terms of their responses or retorts. As far as good responses are concerned, Carly's, Brooke's, and Kristy's responses made sense to me. Amanda's response was way too overconfident, and she might get the boot tonight. Carly is seasoned vocally, and she has a healthy, mature attitude with great communication skills.  Carly got her point across and was understood. KUDOS, Carly!! Brooke was grateful for all the past weeks and this time around she's cool about any kind of judging. Carly, Brooke and Kristy are all 24 years old and they have more experiences too dealing with adults, so they are likely to handle stresses like that better than an 18 or 19 year old.

I actually loved Kristy's take on her being the bottom 3 last week. Before Ryan could call her name, Kristy had asked for her microphone already, and before she sang her song, she said, "Sorry that I have to sing it to you again" (paraphrased). That shows the comical side of Kristy and the high level of her acceptance to negativity that she could take. PROPS to Kristy Lee Cook as well. She's gonna stick around. Last night, Simon told Kristy that she was not a good performer but her performance last night was better than last week. Kristy responded,  "I could blow you out of your socks and you know it", which cracked Simon's face into a big smile. Simon loves the idea of a great confrontation where the contestant shows maturity or smartness rather than childishness and excuses. To Simon, that's where he gauges the contestant's ability to withstand everything. He believes they could all sing well if only given the proper genre, but he wanted to discover the inner selves of these contestants.

Chikezie learned his lesson not to talk back hard. DC, DA and Syesha were just alright. Michael Johns was criticized for not coming up with a great song to sing like David Cook doing a Lionel Richie song 2-3 weeks ago.  Obviously, Simon was weighing DC and MJ who he has to keep between the two. Ramiele didn't say anything back in her defense, which I thought she should have said something relevant to her performance. And, Jason Castro just accepted anything like a good school boy. Simon said that if it were a radio song contest, he'd turn it off for Jason. But since it is a tv show, Jason showed some charm that could sell to people as good. To me, Jason's song if recorded and voted for would have the least vote last night, I'd have to agree with Simon on that. Jason was criticized by Paula for the first time that he was awkward performing without his guitar and sounded like he was doing a polka, which to me was so appropriately put!!

Last night, the bottom 4 could be Amanda Overmyer, Ramiele Malubay, Michael Johns, and Jason Castro

I thought Carly was the best of the night this week.  Although I'll say that I didn't think anybody was totally amazing.  I would say that only four of them (Carly, David A, Syesha & David C) were pretty good and that's the order I'd rank them.  After that it's hard to say because I didn't like much else.  I'm not surprised Amanda went home.  I had a feeling it might be Ramiele but I never thought Kristy Lee even though I was pretty sure she'd be in the bottom for the fourth time in five weeks.  That's bound to catch up to her eventually but at least she's made the tour so the rest doesn't really matter for her since she isn't going to crack the Top 7 I believe.

I think the next three weeks will send Kristy Lee, Ramiele and Chikezie to the door and then we'll be left with a very interesting final seven contestants.  Well, Jason Castro may have worn me out by then...six contestants.  Um, I know I'm going to want to strangle Archuleta by then as well.  The kid can sing but I can't stand looking at him.  Or listen to him talk.  He's just so uncomfortable to watch for me.

Anyway...

Couldn't agree more!  Nothing personal against Archie.  He's just not my cup of tea.

Well I wasn't planning on voting, but I may be forced to vote for Carly just to avoid a complete disaster of her leaving way too soon.   WTF is America thinking.  Hopefully they're thinking that she's so good she'll have to be safe (Daughtry fans know better), so they didn't bother voting.  Much like the time Katharine was in the bottom two with Lisa, this should be a wake up call to all the Carly fans out there.

I wouldn't be worried. Someone else we know came in B3 during the week of 10, and she did OK by my recollections. Carly seems more on Kat's trajectory than anyone else since, right down to the KC comparisons by Simon during the week of 12. Of course that migh mean coming in second to one of the Davids, but that wouldn't be too bad, would it?

I think Simon was crabbing at Carly because she became an early favorite, and maybe the judges were just pimping her a bit TOO hard. it's hard telling with him. In the moment, he always seems to be serious and trying to tell it like it is. But when you start matching up new comments with old ones, it's like that segment on Jon Stewart or whoever it is who juxtaposes George Bush's new and old video clips, so that he's contradicting himself right and left. I guess in the end it's all just show business. Whatever's needed to keep the boat afloat. Bit I think K. still holds the record for making Simon apologize.

I got a real kick out of Amanda and would have liked to see her stay around longer. She sure didn't bore me, and that's more than I can say for some of the others. I guess she'll just have to be content playing local bars in Lafayette, Indiana. Who knows, if I ever move back home, maybe I can go see her sometime, and I can tell her I actually voted for her a time or two.

I find myself getting progressively bored with the show......I seem to be reading during the performances.
For me,the singers are essentially unexciting and Simon's comments are totally cliche(why does everyone remind him of Kelly C?) and demeaning...Ellen actually showed clips of the mean one on her show and said she would call Simon about his attitude.Someone asked Simon what was his favorite part of the show and not surprisingly,he said the MONEY!Isn't that what it's all about now??What happened to the talent search?

Still like David A's voice, but his personality is quite cloying....the tweens might just vote him to the finals. Can't jump on the Carly bandwagon....she has the pipes, but her persona does nothing for me.....

Not looking forward to the finals when Clive reads off the roster of the big money makers in his stable....all those who are considered to be "mainstream" and"have the goods"...yeah, he's just panning for gold, not looking to nurture talent!

It still doesn't seem like they're spending enough time letting you get to know the contestants. I mean really, this is a combination singing/personality contest and people like to get to know the people as well as listen to them. Or maybe I feel that way because what I've seen didn't stick with me because I didn't find them very interesting. I'm honestly not sure, now that I think of it. Still, when you think back to stuff like the Kat/Kellie horsing around like a couple of little kids, and everybody getting to know Elliott's mom, and Dan mcPhee tearing up every time his kid hit a high note,... well, it just doesn't seem like we're getting that kind of stuff anymore.

I think we're supposied to glean some personality qualities in those brief film clips and/or how feisty the contestants are with the judges.
Groucho,I totally agree about possibly finding this years Idols not very interesting. We may be living in the past, but AI 5& even 6 were much more fun.
Curious, that one of Simon's cliche lines seems to be that the contestants are"not showing personality"....he even used that with Kat....who had(has) a huge surplus of personality!Yeah...when should they show their stuff....in the middle of a song...say"funny thing happened to me on my way to hair and make-up?"

I really think Carly did very good that night. It is indeed a shock to see her in the bottom 3. Sometimes I have this doubt, though, if the results are really telling the true vote record. AI is the producer of this show and they have everything to say about it, for all that's worth. Granted it's AI setting up the results, this is how I would interpret it. That Carly being in the bottom 3 with Kristy and Amanda would mean their votes were the lowest and must need more votes to make them hurdle the bottom 3 next time. But unfortunately, Amanda's votes was the lowest, so, she was the one to leave. So, was Amanda's lowest vote for being too limited and too different? How about Kristy's and Carly's low votes? Ppl forgot to vote enough? Or they retorted back at Simon? Or their song choices didn't cut to the pppl? Are K&C's personalities and vocal abilities in the same category now all of a sudden that they had to meet in the bottom 3?  Or is it just the category of wrong song choice for Carly and personality for Kristy? Brooke's retort was actually even feistier, if you ask me, although grateful. But I've never seen or heard Brooke behave like she did last week on Beatles round 2. Now, just think if the same ppl that voted for Carly the week before were the same ppl that voted for her last week, Carly wouldn't be in the bottom unless some ppl didn't vote or changed their minds about Carly all of a sudden, which to me, is not a good indication about Carly's standing. If AI wanted the ppl to think this way the way they had caused it, granted, that is, then AI is setting up Carly not in the same pimping as Archuleta because DA didn't even get to the bottom 3 when he forgot the lyrics when ppl couldn't have missed that and usually, that's the case, or is it?.

Hey Mattsie.....this really may be evolving into a true popularity contest that has very little to do with quality or how well a contestant sings.
Maybe the votes are being controlled by the tweenie/teen girls who are screaming for Jason and David A. just because they are cute.So it's about the higher votes.....not necessarily that the bottom three deserved to be there! It is interesting that the contestants are actually verbally challenging the judges this year. They've come a long way since Kat's rather meek,".....I didn't pick it" remark and sticking her tongue out at Simon, 2 years ago!

mattsie, I've been wondering the same thing. And not just this season, in season 5 as well. I voted for Carly Tuesday night and was having a hard time getting votes in. So sometimes I do wonder if American Idol really is making it the way they want it, either to knock off the talent or to cause conflict in some way for more ratings. We already learned in Season 5, well I first learned that the judges will tell the contestants back stage, for example, Randy told Kat about SOTR  the second time will be awesome when she was worried about doing it twice. Then live on camera he said he was worried about it? I know she got amazing comments from it again, but that doesn't make it a reality show if you're not being honest to these contestants and their fans. The contestants might know, but from the looks of it this year, they haven't known too much.

So, honestly there is no telling with American Idol and what they really do. We'll never know the whole story behind it all because then that'd mean they might lose their show. So it could go either way.
