I really don't mind or don't care if David Cook sang the covers of other artists. Apparently, it's not illegal to do that, and somehow, allegedly, some form of acknowledgment to the band/artist has already been done. David Cook's cover of Doxology's cover of the Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby" was to me a great performance. It is that performance that personified him to be the unanimous front runner of this contest. Then, his (David Cook's) latest cover of Chris Cornell's cover of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" sealed it all. Two excellent performances in a row made me realize that "David Cook could win this entire show", as Simon succinctly put it.
Now, I've previously written about Carly Smithson possibly winning based on her exceptional singing abilities. This is going to be tough because Carly is a formidable contender. Therefore, if everything goes well according to their shown calibers, we could possibly realize a David Cook - Carly Smithson finale. This is just a prediction based on the current showing. I agree. I think Cook's been the best performance wise so far. I also agreed with Simon when he described him as "worthy". I actually knew what he meant, and last week he clarified it by calling him smug. But it doesn't matter all that much if you can back it up, and Cook certainly has. I expect to see him in the final, hopefully with Carly.
On a side note I found it interesting that Castro considered his potential elimination last night to be a "shocker". I guess he's not quite as humble as he pretends to be. Still I don't make too much of it. It's a singing competition after all. If you have the goods you can get away with the other stuff. Problem is, for me, Castro doesn't have it.
Dolly Parton's compliment on David Cook was ...he has a "beautiful voice." I agree with DP. Review the group song 9 to 5 and listen to DC's parts. I thought he had the best vocals there that night. I can't wait for him to sing Andrew Lloyd Webber's "All I Ask of You" from the Phantom of the Opera. It would be his shining moment. No guitar needed, just wear a tuxedo, David. BTW, I love the crisp white shirt DC wore, a bright contrast from the usual black outfits he had.
I agree that DC thinks he's really good...didn't Simon say once that one of his performances "wasn't as good as I think you think it was". But he can get away with that because he is really good. And I like that. I like it more than when Archuleta or say Melinda last year would be shocked by any positive comments they'd get. That's OK early on but when it's week after week of great comments...it's like, "Melinda, stop it! You're good, alright? If you don't get it by now you'll never get it."
I agree with you totally about Castro. I think he should go next. I'm tired of his kind of kid-like singalong style. I'm still confused why Simon considered Castro a frontrunner a few weeks ago.
I'm hoping for a David Cook & Carly finale. It's the best possible combination. I've said it before but it's the closest thing we're going to get to the Daughtry/McPhee finale we should have had two years ago.
I agree with you on this, bigshady. I thought Jason was a bit off on the elimination night. He was too surprised that he he didn't get called out (by Ryan) soon enough, whrich means that he didn't think he could be in the bottom 3. I think he shouldn't have said that. From his words and actions (kind of cocky) he didn't appear humble. I know he could have feared he might be the one to go but he was acting too defiant. Not somber, not modest, nor sympathetic. What was he thinking? That he was to go all the way to the finale? If it was just not his birthday, he could have gone home instead of Chikezie, I thought. The truth is, Chikezie's voice is better than Jason's, but Jason's guitar-playing is getting into the people head as something essential to winning this competition, for him, maybe yes, but personality wise, Jason doesn't come across to having it, I agree. Sorry. After Ramiele, Jason could be next to go home.
