Hello everybody and Happy Easter!
Here in Denmark we have Danish X-Factor right now. A formidable female singer has emerged who in my opinion in terms of charisma and vocal abilities reminds me of Katharine. She's not as strikingly pretty as Katharine, had some problems with her face at the birth, but isn't it the inner beauty which counts. She's the same age as Katharine and what a voice God has given her. Goose bumps.

Both songs are Alicia Keys but I think Kaura sings both song far better and with more soul.

A song in Danish - title translated to "No second dream". What a power and drive here!
Will be happy and extremely grateful to hear your comments.
One of the things that set Katharine apart, and draws many of us to her, is her unusually pure vocal tone. It's the reason she blows everyone away on slow, intimate pieces such as SOTR and Something. And it's something so rare that it only shoes up a few times in each generation. It's the reason she so easily gives you goosebumnps and chills. And for those of you who aren't quite sure what I'm talking about, it's what makes a Stradivarius sound better than any old violin, or a Steinway the king of pianos.
The last woman I remember with Kat's kind of vocal purity was Karen Carpenter, so I'm not expecting another anytime soon!
Oh yes katfan07, Laura is VERY good indeed. But she has none of Kat's special vocal purity IMO.
Hello, hello! I didn't state anywhere, that Laura was equal to Kat! Word "reminds" can both be reminds less and reminds more. I know perfectly that Kat is one of the kind. We haven't had a female singer of Laura's calibre in Denmark for more than 20 years. I've just wanted to hear what you did think about Laura and you all are very positive. Thanks.
Wow! I've finally figured out how to use this "quote" thingy! Anyway........
Bill, I'm with you totally! Karen Carpenter What a vocalist and taken from us way, way too soon! I can only imagine what her career would have been and more personally, what joy she would have brought to my life with her recordings. She will always be one of my all time favorites. One of my other favorites is Gloria Estefan. I mention her because if you ever get a chance to listen to any of her ballads (most of them written by her) on her "Cuts Both Ways and Into the Light" albums, you may be surprised to hear some of the same resonance and purity that was in Karen's voice. Gloria is known (as used in last season's AI) for her upbeat Latin numbers, but I just love her ballads! Back in 1991, I took my daughter to her "Into the Light" Concert when she came to Denver (no small drive from Wyoming....speed limits were still 65mph...Ugh!). What a feast for the eyes as well as ears! She's one very special, talented woman. I remember she was even included in the very first VH1 Diva shows (along with Aretha, Celine, Maria and Shania Twain).....and rightly so!
Laura is very talented and I'm sure she will do well in her career. I had never seen the show X Factor before. It was interesting in that I noticed that the performers were allowed much more time and had a chance to really develop the song. That's one of the things that has always bugged me about AI. But, then again, if you had close to 3 minutes to perform and weren't very good, it could be very uncomfortable for the performer as well as the listening audiance....LOL!! Also, it was nice to see the judges actually enjoying the performances.
Denmark has really been developing it's recording business. I think in the late 1990's and early 2000's, many artists did their recording there. If memory serves me,(and no laughing, I enjoy harmonies) the BackStreet Boys did their Black and Blue album in Denmark. On that note (harmonies), does it seem to anyone else that this year's contestants aren't as well suited to do those group numbers as the past two seasons? Just IMO......
