Well, the new studio certainly has its share of "bells and whistles". I'm just wondering, after hearing a few of the contestants pitch problems tonight (who never stood out in the past as having that problem), if it has anything to do with the acoustics and the new location of the band. I remember someone in the past stating that there was something like a 3 second delay in sound between where the contestants stood while performing on stage and where the judges sat. It was mentioned that that might explain what the judges hear versus what the TV audience at home hears. I was just wondering if the band being set up 15 feet above the performers might cause "pitchy" problems, etc. Does anyone else have thoughts along those lines?

Tonight, my favorites of the girls were Brooke White and Carly Smithson. And, for the guys, it was David Cook and surprisingly, Chikezie!

Based on my knowledge of acoustics--having the band in behind the performers might have been the worst thing on the old set. That was the whole problem to begin with when Kat (and countless others) kept getting the sound of the band bounced back at them. The reason is simple physics: The sound traveled straight to the back and bounced off the wall--and then back to Kat and the other performers as an echo. Having the band up on a balcony stage left may or may not help--considering it's hard to see the whole configuration of the stage on TV. Hopefully Ricky Minor isn't afraid of heights anyway.

Overall, though, I think the stage is just a little too much as is the opening title sequence. I frankly like simpler set designs--and even miss the concept of curtains on a stage. Sure, "AI" probably doesn't want a cleaners bill with that old stage process, but the set looks like something out of a futuristic version of "AI." I guess that makes them future ready.

I actually liked the other set in the smaller studio better. Those balconies are an interesting addition and gives you a chance to see the reaction of the other contestants looking on at the other performers. If I were a contestant on the show, I'd rather have the freedom to move around on those balconies rather than sitting in those ominious-looking chairs for the whole hour in the big studio while sweating bullets.

Yes, folks, welcome to the "AI" angle on interior design...

Chikezie reminded me of Taylor Hicks...
