Hi guys I read an article and Nigel Lythgoe was interviewed in it and he says that Katharine will return to Idol this year! "This time around, the show will redirect attention to the finalists and bring back alums such as McPhee and season-two winner Ruben Studdard during results shows to keep fans abreast of what they're up to, Lythgoe said. Great! I hope she does it, even though I wouldn't blame her if she didn't. However, Nigel L. was the one who defended Kat staying the night Chris was sent packing so maybe she'll do it for him...and us too Maybe then the world can hear what we already know...Kat's music is amazingly under-appreciated!

if she goes on and its true, which it sounds..then i don't think she will really be singing old material will she? maybe by that time there will be something new prepared! lol probably unlikely though. but i cant imagine her singing an old single on idol..MAYBE EVERYWHERE I GO. but still doesnt make sense since shes not w/ RCA anymore so there would be no reason for promotion of those songs

If she does appear on idol, alot of the credit goes to the kit kat project

Amanda though I'd love to believe that I think the main reason is the declining ratings of last year. People don't want to see Gwen Stefani and Pink on the show, they want to see these kids and learn more about their stories. If she performs during that appearance I am very curious what she will sing. I doubt it will be anything from this CD. Possibly her duet with Elloitt but the rumor is he is going to be on Idol Gives Back. It might be a new song, possibly a soundtrack song, or maybe something she has said nothing about yet. This is going to be an "amazing year musically" remember? If I had my pick right now I think I'd like to see her do Mary Jane and mention she is covering it on her upcoming CD! Something that simply blows the crowd away with how far she has come!

But if she's on another label by that time would they let her push her new material? How interconnected are these companies anyway? Speaking of covering MJ, and I'm just thinking out loud here, it occurs to me that there are any number of ways she could work covers into an album. If she had musicians like those guys she did the acoustic stuff with on VH1 and Rhapsody, and arrangers who could do what they did with Over It and Love Story, practically turning them into different songs, she could even cover something like Come Rain or Come Shine and it would sound contemporary. I mean really, I didn't even like Love Story until I heard the acoustic version of it. The combination of letting her just do whatever she wanted to vocally plus stripped-down accompaniment without all the studio crap worked wonderfully well, IN MY OPINION. I could listen to a whole lot of that. And I think a lot of other people could to.

Well Gwen is on Interscope and they had her a lot so I don't think it would matter too much about the label. They would be highlighting the fact that a show alum is now a movie star and has a new record deal. I just wonder about the relationship between 19 and BMG these days. I find it interesting that after BMG dropped Ruben he signed with Simon Fuller and 19 Entertainment. Plus no Clive at Top 3 night was interesting too. Thankfully that was the case for Jordin, Blake and Melinda. He picks such ridiculous songs.

Is it certain that the returning alumni will be singing at all? I'm not sure what Kat could sing. If she's on the "I Know What Boys Like" soundtrack, that's still too far away for a release during the Idol schedule. Maybe she has another collaboration in the works?

It would be really nice to see her on the show, but even better if she had something to promote, as just about all of the previous guests had. The timing doesn't seem right to me. Lythgoe didn't say anything about her singing if she is on. I read another article where he said that they weren't going to use guests very much, but instead focus on the contestants and their families, such as have family members select the songs to sing. I think it is going to be a different format than in the past and maybe she wouldn't sing at all.
