Yesterday (Saturday, April 7)  on the national radio show called Open House Party they played  a "remix" of Over It and earlier tonight trippy11 posted this at IDF:

Supposedly a bunch of official remixes were just sent to Djs. Keep a lookout for the following remixes to pop up( New links all HQ files)

Over It (Mr. Mig Radio Mix) - From McPheever 20 @ IDF

Over It (Funk Generation Radio Mix)  - Played on Open House Party

Over It (Funk Generation Mixshow)

Over It (Funk Generation Club Mix) - From trippy11 @ IDF *

Over It (Funk Generation Club Mix) - From McPheever 20 @ IDF *

Over It (Mr. Mig Instrumental)

* Same song but different file from different sources

The one they played on OHP was the Funk Generation Radio mix. It's mixed by DJ Mike Rizzo.

Well, I'm not going to pretend that I have any great knowledge on the subject, here is what Wikipedia has to say on remixes:

Remix

A remix is an alternative version of a song, different from the original version. A remixer uses audio mixing to compose an alternate master of a song, adding or subtracting elements, or simply changing the equalization, dynamics, pitch, tempo, playing time, or almost any other aspect of the various musical components. Usually, a remix will involve substantial changes to the arrangement of a recorded work; lyrics may be added or removed, such alterations are not a necessity. A song may be remixed to give a song that wasn't popular a second chance at radio and club play, or to alter a song to suit a specific music genre or radio format.

So what do we  make of these  remixes of Over It being offered up by the label?

RCA hopes to extend the radio play of this single to more "beat oriented" types of music format (rhythmic, urban, dance).  Also, considering the length of  some of  these tracks (the one above is over six minutes long) the label clearly wants Over It to be played in dance clubs as well.

Is it a good thing?

Any time a label supports an artist and tries to extend the range and market penetration of their music I think it has to be considered a good thing.  The IDF crowd, generally, seems to really like that remix.  Listen to it and see what you think.

I actually considered setting this up as a poll thread so feel free to weigh in,  thumbs up or down on the remix.

Thx for the remix and OHP plays info.

Always a good ting when a remixes are issued. No point in spending the time or energy unless the song is relatively popular. RCA is definitely looking for extra mileage for the song. OHP has always kind of had a more urban bend so it is not surprising that they played one of the remixed versions. Other format stations may follow suit. Though I don't expect a big pick-up by those who have not yet already played OI. Dance clubs are an obvious market as well (possibly paving the way a bit for OT as a second single which be sure to make the dance club circuit).

I think the one remix version we heard is okay. I don't think OI is really a song that lends itself to decent remixes all that much though. The slow dragged out vocals don't really work all that well for me but I do like the underlying beat. I would have liked to see them do a little more with the vocals through repetition on not play them back word-for-word. Mix them up more. Maybe some of the other mixes do that as this is only one of many.

But in sum, it is great to see alternate versions and a sure sign that RCA is continuing to back Kat and do what they can to help get her established.

I thought it was just ok...I don't go to dance clubs probably because of the way this re-mix begins. The same rhythm over and over again...it annoyed me and I wondered how it sounded in the least like Over It! Then her voice sounded like they dragged out the timing and it was kind of surreal sounding. I know know guys, I'm 47 now and my club days are gone (not that everyone my age is a non-club person) but I just found it annoying. Now, the main point here is how the "kids" like it because they are really the target for this style, the 20 somethings. So if it rocks their world then....YAY!

I did consider how a song like Open Toes would do with a re-mix...that might be interesting

Thanx for the remixes! I like them, but I think I still like the original better...Over It (Funk Generation Club Mix) is okay, but I don't really care for the super long intro...it's like, "okay...is the vocal going to start anytime soon..." It sounded kinda cool though, what they did with Kat's voice and the timing. I like the Mig Radio Mix better though, because they didn't change it as much. They're both cool though, and if it helps it get more play, then that's great!

Kat's Comment to me:

"Lauren,
don't worry about your gift and not getting on time. That is sooo sweet but you didn't have to do that. I really appreciate it. I read your comment and it really touched me. I'm happy you enjoyed your first season of Idol. I mostly thank you for all your support. It means more than anything. I just love that people are enjoying the music. Keep in touch and thanks again. Cute page too!

Well we were dancing around the office to da beat of da remix...I'm not sure what this will do on radio, but it sure makes me want to dance! I assume this is just a long version of the one played on OHP, but it sure sounded better to me played on my computer than the one played over the radio (also on my computer). Anyway, I like it!

Awesome! Usually when official remixes are released to download they are already at the clubs! Next time I go I'll be requesting it.

You can't look at this as anything but a positive thing.  I was wondering if they might do something in the future like release some of the songs that didn't make the CD with some remixes of some of the uptempo songs.  Maybe make it an ITunes special so it doesn't cost them very much to do.

But yeah I think it's obvious the reason to do this is to stretch out the life of the song on the radio.  They probably want to get Over It through April going pretty strong before they follow it up with what we believe will be Open Toes.

Open Toes lends itself to remixes more than Over It.  I listened to the Mig mix and it was pretty good but I still prefer the original.

Anyway...like I said, for RCA to take the time to do this is obviously a great sign.  They wouldn't bother if they didn't think weren't supporting Katharine.  Agree or disagree with some of the choices RCA has made with Katharine, you can't really accuse them of not supporting her.  They've definitely done that.

The price for the Remix CD on eBay finally dropped down to a "reasonable" price (~$13 + shipping)...anyway I bought one and ripped 320 kb/s, constant bit rate, mp3 for all six Over It remixes and put them in a zip.

All six Over It remixes in HQ mp3 (~59 MB) @ Sendspace

Vocal-only (sort of) Mig mix!
I subtracted Track 3 from Track 1 and did a little primping. The result was this mostly vocal-only track.

Zip of 2 edits
http://rapidshare.com/files/90572296/migVocalDifference_v1.zip.html
http://www.sendspace.com/file/eq442m

The one with "slow" in the name was slowed back down to about the same tempo as the CD version. Keep in mind, in addition to the original vocal manipulation, these also include the remix speed-up (plus the speed-down for the slow version) and all the other things they did to make the remix. Still, it's a nice listen!

Thanks again CRB for the files!
