I know I caused a major stir some weeks ago, citing Wikipedia for announcing that Kat had left RCA. It turned to be true anyway.

Now Wikipedia says that Kat signed a deal with Warners yesterday, but if it's true, it didn't happen imo during one day.

I really hope that's 100% true and what a future waits for Kat. First of all David Foster who really adore her! Making her second CD and songs written by him and his daughter. WOW!

2008 will be year of C (K)ATWOMAN!!

You could read that she was going to do a duet with Kermit the Frog too. You can find any damn thing on Wiki. But this is starting to look more reasonable all the time. I just wouldn't take W. as proof of it.

I don't see anything like this on Kat's wiki page. Not that it would mean anything anyway. When something is announced it will come from a more reliable source than Wiki.

bcollan,

Somebody deleted the information about Warners from Wikipedia - it was there yesterday.

Maybe same person changed the information about Kat leaving RCA to uncorfimed one at Wikipedia. But it has been confirmed that Kat isn't anymore with RCA! So it has to be one who's not fan of Kat.

I've the feeling however that we soon get the news about Kat joining Warners.

I just read an interesting and kind article about Kat leaving RCA. Here's the link and a very interesting quote from it....hmmmm....rumors starting to congeal in the press???

http://www.celebrity-gossip.net/celebrities/hollywood/bad-news-for-katharine-mcphee-202734/

So what’s next for Katharine?  Well, she’s in talks with another undisclosed label, and she’ll be starring in the upcoming film “I Know What Boys Like.” Not too shabby!

After reading that little blurb, I have lost all respect for RCA. What got me upset was the following:

"Many of us at the label still love her songs. But we’re in the major leagues. We didn’t think she could break into the mainstream. We would rather be honest.”

What a mean and hurtful thing to say! I may have not been thrilled with her first album, but she has the pipes, looks and overall talent to be the top female performer of our time. Whoever that RCA person was, they ought to be terminated. With support like that, I can see why she didn't do better numbers....

I don't know if it was meant to be mean or hurtful GB. After all, it didn't say she wasn't good, just that she isn't commercial. And I don't have a problem with that. I mean, if I wanted to listen to Britney or Fergie, I wouldn't necessarily be a Kat fan. Neither Eva Cassidy nor Jane Monheit are mainstream. Nor are a great many other wonderfully talented singers singers and musicians. In fact some would agrue that the absolute best artists are never mainstream.

So RCA was just stating that they don't have any interest in any talent other than Top 40 mainstream commercial mega-acts. No wonder I have so few RCA CDs in my collection!

Yeah, I don't have many RCA releases either of recent vintage!!! I guess my main gripe is that crack about we're in the major leagues......How arrogant a statement that is.

You are very correct though, it seems that quality artists never sell as many albums as the "here today...gone tomorrow" artists....

What is mainstream but conventional and ordinary:Kat is in a class by herself and her gifts are anything but ordinary!I too was initially offended by the RCA remark, but soon came to the conclusion that what appeals to the masses is not generally quality.Talent should not be measured by the number of discs sold.

There are many talented singers I listen to who have never seen top 40 or sold a million.....except maybe Groban. These artists change labels as often as changing their shoes(slight exaggeration to make a point).

The other RCA remark,"We're always willing to be patient with people who have the goods." really ticked me off.It is pure bull......Kat has the goods, but doesn't seem to have benefitted from any patience or support from the record company.Kat's artistry deserves to be nurtured and appreciated with her best interests at heart!!

Well said, keefir1. It is quite apparent to me that RCA is just treating their roster as 'means to an end'. If you make money for us, we will keep you, if not, you are history. Boy, Clive has certainly changed since his days at Arista when he was willing to gamble on artists like Patti Smith and the then unheard of (in the states) Suzi Quattro.

I assumed they were fighting the perception battle of how this cut played out to the public. Before they spoke up, the media and bloggers generally were leaning toward kat's side in the "divorce".

I think they felt a need to strike back because they saw it very differently.

My biggest issue is the "being patient" with those who have the goods. I always felt that kat would be kept for a second album at rca because she is a potential goldmine, it's just a matter of how she is packaged. Perhaps they felt that they wouldn't be able to package her the way they wanted to for album 2 and decided they couldn't invest again.

Of course, this is all just complete speculation. There may have been some back and forth between Maverick/Untitled and RCA is the two parties trying to keep the relationship going under circumstances, but perhaps they just couldn't find a set of circumstances they could mutually agree upon.

As for where she will sign next, i think Warner would be nice but we will only know when the press release comes out or kat reveals it.

^Right Ken, it just might have been a case of the"You can't quit, you're fired!" mentality.

Maybe I'm just stirred up because recently it feels like the blogs are all slanting to an anti-kat stance, whereas not long before, it seemed like a lot of them were willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. It's like something just shifted overnight. Now I grant you, a lot of the "negative" stuff is regarding wedding pictures, not label changing, but still, it's like from one day to the next the tone changed. It's one thing for RCA to come up with some sour grapes, and another for every blog I read to be slamming her or trying to make her look bad just by the way they phrase things. Theyr'e starting to sound like Idol judges making snarky remarks while the audience is still cheering. Just makes me go hmmm, what's going on here? That's all.

And yeah, that "we're in the major leagues" remark was nasty. Boo, RCA, boo.

I think the best course for Kat here is to remain quiet, until she has some solid news about a change of label or recording ventures. I learned a long time ago that an artist is always going to be the loser in a verbal sparring match with the label. Being quiet, while it drives us fans crazy, is the best policy right now.
