It was a close horse race. A couple of early favorites faded, and some others sprinted to the finish line. The final result is a half dozen of really excellent questions for Kat. But then all the questions were excellent!
#4"Katharine, you have touched so many lives with your talent, presence, and charitable heart. Who has touched your life in a profound way and why?" -Popi
#11"Hey Kat,--You have performed many different types of songs, for a wide variety of audiences, in all kinds of venues..... All of this certainly proves how versatile you are! . What has been your favorite performance? .(which song?-- where was it? --and why was this your favorite?)" -Linda (arden15)
#13"What's your favorite song that didn't make it on your debut album? Who was it produced by? What style of song was it? And could you sing it for us in a video blog? Or even better...make it a Christmas present? The actual recorded version...is that possible? Oh and why didn't it make it on the record?" -Joe in CA (sjwolves)
#14"Kat, you're constantly intriguing us with your personality. You easily crack us up with your silliness one moment, then tug at our heartstrings the next with a mere facial expression or beautiful vocals. I would like to know what makes YOU laugh hysterically, or cry in empathy. Name some guilty-pleasure movies that you turn to when you want to laugh unrestrained, or cry like a Sappy Sapperson. Please share any specific reasons - if any - why you are moved by these movies. (Just to break the ice, "Bad Santa," "Love Actually," and "Elf" always get me laughing, and "The Sixth Sense," "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," and "The Notebook" may or may not make me cry. )" -Steve (mutt808)
#17"As you probably already know, your fans absolutely adore your personality. It's certainly one of the many reasons why we all fell in love with you. So, I was thinking... we all have perceptions of personality - our own and what we believe friends and family think of us. But you also have a third aspect, which would be the fan perception. Please describe your personality as you see it, as you think your friends and family see it, and as you think your fans see it." -Bella from Brazil (bellamcphee)
#18"Katharine, from the very first time I watched you perform you inspired me and still continue to do today. I definitely look up to you and you really have helped me not be afraid to follow my dreams. So Kat, my question is, what advice would you give to those who are considering persuing a career in singing and acting? What things have helped you to become a strong performer and reach your goals and dreams?" -Smiley Chloe (2smileyidol2)
Those are the Top 6. But I have to tell you I was disappointed that a favorite of mine didn't make it, and actually was the 7th highest missing by 2 votes. So I'm thinking that we can "sneak in" a bonus seventh question. I don't think Kat will mind.
#1"Many of your fans fell in love with your voice right from your first audition. What was your reason for choosing the song God Bless the Child and what inspired your soulful interpretation of it?" -Jasmine (nothlithawk777)
The questions will be sent to Kat Friday, and I'll post her answers as soon as she sends them.
Bah. Go ahead and send Katharine the seventh question. Just ask her verrrry nicely.
Awesome! Thanks, Bill. Those are some good questions!
Remember when we did this last time; how excited we were? It's funny to think back how we were just like little kids all giddy, hopped up on candy and soda! A lot of people probably thought that we'd never get to have that kind of interaction with Kat again, you know, once her career took off and she became the HUGE star we all expect her to become. I guess we didn't realize at the time how great she was going to be to all her fans. We are so lucky!
YES we certainly are Mark!
Hopefully Kat will tell us more about the unreleased tracks with Joe's question.
Great questions, Bill. This will certainly answer a good number of the questions that are on all our minds. Anxiously awaiting the responses. I also thought the seventh question was a good one. Don't worry, Entrepreneur, Bill always asks verrry nicely.
I recall there was a lot of joyful running, running, RUNNING.
Bill, thanks for doing all of this, and for sneaking in Jasmine's question. Congratulations to everyone, and thank you to those who took the time to vote.
Yeah, those are all good choices. We should get a fairly wide (and hopefully refreshingly new since last year) picture of Kat the person, artist and humanitarian with these questions. It's a good mix of all those aspects.
Even though my question didn't make the cut--I think we'll still get a good idea how she thinks artistically with Jasmine's question alone. That near-legendary audition performance of 'GBTC' has enough mystery in it to outdo anything even resembling a Da Vinci Code. Who knew some songs could contain a McPhee Code--despite that giving some notion that Kat belongs to the Freemasons or something.
We've mentioned before here that the lyrics to 'God Bless the Child' resonated with her powerfully. And that's more than intriguing in an artist when there's hidden emotions behind every word and phrase. I still get the impression that the song may be too personal for her to address openly to the fanbase. So it'll be interesting to see how she handles that question.
My question wasn't picked, again. I need to call my fairy Godmother.
I won! No...um, anyway. Why was it six questions anyway? That's a random number. Usually you'd have 5 or 10 or if it was up to me 1,000 questions for Katharine (I'm sure she wouldn't mind).
It was so hard to come up with only one question...I think I could have given you at least 100 questions but...not all of those would have been ones that either a) Katharine would want to answer (I think) b) questions she could answer very well in written form and c) some things I don't think she CAN answer because of a variety of reasons.
Which is why this was way more difficult than I think some people out there realize. Because I had a question here about single choices and would she have done anything different but then I thought about it and wondered if she'd give a very good answer to that (maybe she would have) because the one time she gave an honest answer about not liking OI it caused an uproar. I wouldn't want to ask a question that caused her to answer like that again even if I loved her honesty about it all. I mean that comment about OI got her on Perez Hilton...yikes.
Anyway...can't wait to see what she has to say to all of these questions. And I love Jasmine's question about GBTC...it's something I've wanted to know too. Glad you snuck that one in as a bonus question, Bill.
Kat's been quite busy lately in case you guys haven't noticed
Besides, I said she should take her time since some of the questions were pretty "intense".
I'm sure now that the holidays are over she'll get them back to us soon.
It's probably a good thing my question didn't make the cut--because she'd probably have to think about that one longer than Hamlet ever had to.
Hopefully Kat isn't feeling any pressure on getting the answers to us. After all, the ones selected still require some heady answers--if even getting into territory that could be personal (when connected to how she taps into her artistry). That "God Bless the Child" one alone probably mines some personal territory for her that might be difficult to convey to strangers--even though the question was one of the best of the batch.
So, in this case, patience is a virtue--meaning that we'll get some more detailed answers with Kat taking more time with them. We're going to get a broader picture there of who she is as a person and artist--and I hope they'll be answered when she has time to be introspective about them. Back when she was sick in bed last year (for the first Q&A)--you have no choice but to be introspective. We never want her in that position ever again...despite times of lying in bed while watching movies and catching up on reading not being all that bad if you can get away with it.
