American Idol's Katharine McPhee to Sing Naitonal Anthem at 2008 FedEx Orange Bowl Miami, FL (www.orangebowl.org) – The Orange Bowl Committee has announced American Idol star Katharine McPhee will help kick off the 2008 FedEx Orange Bowl Game on January 3 with her own special rendition of the National Anthem. Shortly after finishing runner-up in the fifth season of American Idol, McPhee was signed to RCA/19 Recordings, Untitled Entertainment and CAA. Her self-titled debut album launched to the top of the Billboard 200 chart, peaking at No. 2. This marked the best chart debut for a solo female artist since July 2006. McPhee’s first single, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow / My Destiny," opened at No. 2 on Billboard's Hot Singles Sales chart. With this, McPhee became the first Idol singer to begin her chart career with two releases making the list in the same week. “Since her debut in America’s living rooms, Katharine McPhee’s amazing vocal talent has made her a household name,” said Eric Poms, CEO of the Orange Bowl Committee. “We are honored and excited Katharine will help kick-off the 74th edition of the FedEx Orange Bowl with our National Anthem.” In addition to singing, McPhee is a performer and an actor, recently completing the filming of her first full-length feature “I Know What Boys Like” with Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison production company. The movie is set for release by Sony Pictures in Spring 2008. McPhee was named “Big IT Girl” at the VH1 2006 Big Awards and was a nominee for the 2006 and 2007 Teen Choice Award in the “Choice Breakout Female Artist” category. People magazine declared McPhee one of the “100 Most Beautiful People of 2007” and she was voted second on FHM’s “100 Sexiest Women in The World of 2007.” She also was included in Maxim’s “Hot 100 Women of 2007” list.

KU announced that its share of 17,500 tickets all were accounted for Monday afternoon, about two weeks after they went on sale. “We knew Jayhawks fans would be excited about supporting their team,” athletic director Lew Perkins said. “Miami is not an easy place to get to at the last minute during the winter. But our fans persevered. We’ll have a large, loud and excited fan base in Miami, and we can’t wait to get there.” Kansas fans will be located around the northwest corner of Dolphin Stadium, extending from the 50-yard line to the west end zone. That accounts for 17 sections in the upper deck and 12 in the lower level. Virginia Tech will be on centered on the southeast side of the venue. As of Monday evening, the Hokies still had upper-deck tickets available out of their 17,500 allotment. Kansas fans still looking for tickets have plenty of avenues.
