Amanda, I think you, me, and about 8 other people are the only ones who liked this performance.  Most people, including Kat fans, were pretty critical of Kat's rendition of TVW.  I really don't understand why to be honest.  I know I've been guilty of blindly praising Katharine in the past, but it's been a long time since we first saw this and I still believe it was highly underrated.  I think the fact that most people thought the show sucked that night played into that.  Her performance was just written off as part of an underwhelming episode from season five.  As I've said before, I think you have to take into account the difficulty of the song as well.  I've heard Christina live (although not on that song) and even she sometimes can't recreate the "magic" that they found in the studio.  All in all I think Kat did pretty well with the song - no, not one of my absolute favorite performances from her because there were so many great ones, but I still enjoyed it.  And now that I think about it, I wonder if the reactions to that song have anything to do with the bad memories of Kat being in the bottom two that week.

I'm glad you two liked it. Unfortunately it landed her in the bottom 2.

This performance here is also marked as one of my favorites from Katharine. I too don't get why people didn't like her rendition of it. I thought she sounded great. Maybe people didn't like it because of the outfit she was wearing but that's no reason to not like the song. I mean it's not my absolute favorite from her but still a very good performance. Thank you for bringing this up again, it's always great watching Kat from when she was on Idol, brings back not just 1 memory but a lot.

I thought she looked good, but then i like that hairstyle. But then I watched Christina doing it live, and not only did Katharine suffer from having to do a truncated version and not having all the drama of sets/backups/etc., I don't think she had total control of the bigger, louder notes and the melisma seemed a bit out of control and distracted from rather than adding to the performance. She saved it with the last line, which came out with that beautiful sound she produces at her best.

I liked it too and so did Simon so I guess it couldn't have been all bad. This is just one of the examples of Katharine doing something wonderful and not being appreciated. That seems to happen a lot.

I LOVED this performance, I hung the lyrics on the wall and got SO excited when she sang it. I think its because right aroudn this time I was really starting to fall in love with Kat so this is the first performance I actually REALLY listned to every detail of her wonderful voice, and really watched her. I thought it was a VERY good performance and yes Simon LOVED it, he said it was hte best of the night, so I don't think thats why she was in the bottom two, I think people just thought she was safe and didn't vote and/or more people voted for the ones they were worried about, as much as that night when she was in the bottom 2 scared me , its not important now, she made past that and we will always have that wonderful performance to look back on.

Katharine McPhee and Kristy Lee Cook are my Idols!

"Chloe, it sounds so cliché but I tell everyone to pursue whatever they dream of doing as long as you know you can be really good at it. That being said, there are so many forces that influence a career path-family, having to make a living, goals etc. I was very blessed that I had an opportunity through a TV show to get a “break”. The rest is really hard work and keeping up with my voice and acting and making sure that I can totally trust the people around me. It’s a very interesting world, entertainment business, so stay true to yourself and work hard on your gifts." - Katharine McPhee

I totally agree. Kat did a great job with the song and the fact that Simon praised the performance says a lot. I think she sounded and looked fantastic.

Simon liked it on performance night, and then when he found out she was in the bottom two, he took it back and said upon rewatching it, he didn't like it as much. Tell me what that was all about. Deja vu in reverse and ahead of time? Because he panned hell out of I Have Nothing and then the next night reversed himself again.

I actually liked it very much. It's one of my Katharine favs.

Movie actors like Paul Newman, Jimmy Stewart, Humphrey Bogart, Katharine Hepburn, Lauren Bacall and Bette Davis make me want to live in the era they lived but I could have been just as inspired even now while I watch their work in films.
