The best performance on American Idol Season 6 Finale, May 23, 2007
Melinda Doolittle w/ Cece & Bebe Winans - "Hold Up The Light"(2007)
Other performance of this song:
Whitney Houston w/ Cece & Bebe Winans - "Hold Up The Light" (1989)
The Best of Melinda Doolittle on American Idol
Melinda Doolittle - "Have a Nice Day" by Jon Bon Jovi
Simon: "Vocally, in a different league to everyone else tonight."
Melinda Doolittle - "Nutbush City Limits" by Ike and Tina Turner
Simon: "Loved that side of you. Actually, again, another brilliant performance."
Melinda Doolittle - "There Will Come a Day" by Faith Hill
Simon: "You've made me believe you'd recorded it originally. That really was a vocal master class!"
Melinda Doolittle - "My Funny Valentine" by Mitzi Green
Simon: That was incredible. Without question, the best vocal we've had through the competition. It was a fantastic performance."
Melinda Doolittle - "As Long As He Needs Me" from
"Oliver"
Simon: "You made the second part of the song absolutely sensational with an impeccable vocal"
Melinda Doolittle - "I Believe In You and Me" by Whitney Houston
Randy: "The real reason why I chose the song was I wanted to throw a little difficulty at you because it's very rangy, it's Whitney. And I said, yo, if she can do this she should get the grand prize. That was hot. You blew it out of the box. You rose to the occasion. I like the little falsetto thing. Very well done.
Paula: Melinda, you were fantastic, amazing, and I think one of your best performances this season.
Simon: "Very, very difficult song to sing. I think it was your best performance in the last 4 weeks."
Melinda Doolittle - "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" by the Bee Gees
Paula: "You are the queen of vocals. You are the most brilliant technician."
Simon: The second half of the song has put you into the semi finals."
Melinda Doolittle - "Home" from "The Wiz"
Simon: "You made a boring song fantastic. You remind me of a young Gladys Knight, very. very good."
Melinda Doolittle - "I Got Rhythm" by George Gershwin
Simon: " I don't think we're gonna be able to criticize you. This is a problem."
Melinda Doolittle - "Trouble Is a Woman" by Julie Reeves
Simon:"It was fantastic! I saw a little bit kind of Tina Turner going on there. There was an attitude going back to your whole southern thing."
Melinda Doolittle - "I Am a Woman" by Peggy Lee
Randy: "You are a consummate pro. You're ready to go on to the studio and just make a record!"
Paula: "You are so phenomenal."
Simon: "You little tiger. I thought we had a pussycat. I love that".

I'm listening to these now in case RCA decides to sign her and then yank all her fan videos.

RCA would be foolish not to sign her. I'm sure there are producers interested in her. The problem would be in choosing which one to sign with. I've been soaking up myself with her performances. I just couldn't stop listening to these here, and I thought of sharing them with you, since you mentioned the ROCK song in another thread. I deliberately coined the thread this way as a form of reinforcement in a redundant way. Kind of corny, I know, but I didn't mind it. I love Melinda and I missed her tonight. Thanks for the comment, Groucho.

ZZyZx, thanks for the comment on the finale video clips which I posted up on the "Pool" thread.
But I'm going to reply to you on this thread instead, and you're quite welcome.
I'm happy for Jordin's accomplishment, but I'm a big Melinda fan through and through this season.
So, I put together Melinda's top performances this season on Idol. In case you've not seen them yet, back up to the previous posting to see. It's interesting to know that Whitney Houston had performed this as well with the Winans, in 1989. I'm in heaven right now. What could be more entertaining than watching my favorites!
ENJOY!

Mattsie, my friend, "This is MY Now". Love every minute of watching OUR Melinda. She was on Larry King last night and was saying she didn't have a recording contract. I would gladly come out of retirement to produce a Melinda Doolittle track or two. What a gift to the world. Thanks again.

On Larry King, Melinda said she would like to make a jazz album. I've always been disappointed with Katharine that she left that genre open for another artist, but if it's Melinda, all is forgiven.

Z, I'm just thinking about you being a former producer. It could be "your now" really to get out of your retirement and record MISS MELINDA. Wow! A Jazz would be great for her! I also read somewhere that she has mentioned about recording pure soul. Whichever she decides on, I believe and I'm sure she would pull it off successfully. It's not too often that I get this way of any music talent since Whitney Houston 21 years ago. But of course, only because I have gotten this way with MISS MCPHEE, and yet she did not end up recording the music that I would have wanted her to record really. Of course, I could understand her perspectives and prospects being a young artist. WIth Melinda, perhaps, I could relate with her much better because she is older than Katharine and different in a couple more of styles. I always thought POP music is harder to get into than other genres because of many competitions and harder to beat standards left off by the female divas that ruled for decades.
Thanks for your comment, my friend.
