While her debut single "Over It" peaked at a respectable number 29, Katharine McPhee's song is still gaining spins and audience impression each week on radio airplay. Very soon, though, the time will come for the second single to be released from McPhee's self-titled debut album, which has just recently been certified gold for 500K shipments.
There is heated debate amongst the fans over whether it should be the light and fun "Love Story" or the Nate Hills-produced dance song "Open Toes." Gay men and young girls seem to have taken a liking to "Open Toes," it's even starting to get performed in drag clubs, but there's also some buzz around "Love Story," especially from people who aren't necessarily fans.
There's no doubt "Open Toes" fits right in with the songs that are popular on radio right now. Look at some of the recent number ones: "This Is Why I'm Hot", "Fergalicious". Clearly lyrical content is none too popular these days, so "Open Toes" would probably do very well on downloads. The question though, is which song will help the album sales more, and I think it's most definitely "Love Story," especially after the very generic "Over It" which garnered entirely too many JoJo comparisons.
There are also rumors that "Love Story" is getting used as a track on the soundtrack for an upcoming romantic comedy starring Jesse Bradford and Elisha Cuthbert, called My Sassy Girl. It's possible RCA has already chosen the next single and has yet to announce it, but either way it's fun debating which
BEST NEWS OF THE WEEK!!!!

Not long ago, we were envious that even Kellie's album certified gold in 4 months. Our girl did it in 2.5. On to platinum. The bare walls of her condo DO need the plaques for decoration. Next stop, Grammies!
Amazing that these RIAA certifications validate an artist. Platinum recording artist Katharine McPhee has a ring to it.
It takes four weeks for it to show up on Billboard. Four weeks to be "official". So it'll show up sometime in May with that little black circle next to Katharine's name. Or well it's on the far right part of the chart. Whatever.
As for Open Toes vs Love Story. Ehhh...I don't know. I'd rather debate Not Ur Girl vs Neglected but that doesn't seem to be in the mix.
