Katharine will be in Toronto. A article in the Toronto Star
Jim Bawden from the toronto star
Double Idol: CTV says American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee and Canadian Idol winner Eva Avila will perform at Canadian Idol's free concerts in Toronto's Yonge-Dundas Square. They'll kick off the Toronto auditions on April 14, which will include a full day of competition and concerts.
Aw comeon! You've got to be kidding? It is even slower than Over It. Nothing wrong with the song but you have to have an up tempo song for the second single. Katharine needs something to show off her fun, upbeat side, something to get the heart pumping and the blood flowing the feet tapping. Not another slow dance.
Good grief, I hope you heard wrong or this is just a gag or a feeler to get some response from us!
Unbelievably bad decision if this is true.
Those are all excellent points, Sold. I've always been a fan of EO, and a friend of mine who I got to buy the album says it's his favorite. I do think it would make a good single, but I just feel that the next single should be uptempo. I think it's time to shake things up a bit. That's where Open Toes comes in. The more I think about it, the more excited I get about the possibilities. I fully expect OT to just blow up on radio and take the country by storm. I don't think the lyrics will hurt it one bit. They might be a bit silly, but they're fun and fit the song well as just a fun dance track. And I think it's the right time too with summer coming. I think the success of Over It has allowed for RCA to take a risk here and go with OT and run with it. And on the off chance that it doesn't catch on I think EO or NUG could swoop in and save the day.
ETA: Doncha just love how every thread turns into a discussion on what the next single should be?
I love "Each Other," and I love how Kat fans spazz out when they discuss what the next single should be; I find it highly entertaining. "Over It's" got plenty of life left, it's just starting to get play on some stations, so it'll be around for awhile yet; meantime, let the "next discussion single' continue . . .
Oh, ye of little faith. Quit worrying, Kat's got plenty of time to be a Pop Star, '"Over It" isn't the end all-be all of her album. So, keep doing what you're doing and say a prayer for Kat too, she could always use more people praying for her safety and well-being.
OK, OK, OK....let's keep Daughtry out of this. Here's some simple facts. Over It has done better on the radio than both Christina's "Candyman" & Hilary Duff's "With Love". Those are better comparisions since they are, in a sense, Katharine's "competition". Now you say it's gone negative in its move. And that is true. However, if you look closer with this the reason for that is that some of the stations that have played OI well over 100 times (some over 200) are dropping off. That's why she's dropping. But she's still gaining in some places and she's bounced around before. I remember the panic when she was around #34 for the longest time. And she had a week that was pretty flat and it looked like the song had peaked. The next two weeks it exploded up the charts into the mid 20's. She gained over 700 spins in those two weeks. Now I don't see that happening again but I think it'll hold fairly steady for another couple of weeks (maybe drop a spot or two as Daughtry & Rihanna move past her) and all of that. She'll likely peak at #21 on Sunday afternoon and then start a slow decline. There's nothing wrong with this.
I could give you tons of numbers to show you how well the song has done on the radio. And you are correct, it isn't easy to have a hit single. Although I've seen magazines call Over It a hit single so...it just depends on your definition of what a "hit" is. Does it have to be #1? Well, Kelly Clarkson has never reached #1 with any of her songs (outside of her Idol single...doesn't count for me). The highest she's gone is #2. As a matter of fact no Idol has ever reached #1 on the Hot 100 with a song of their actual CD.
And another nugget. Over It is the SECOND-HIGHEST charting single (Hot 100) from a non-winner in Idol history! Only Daughtry's "It's Not Over" has placed higher than OI's peak of #29.
Final thing...of course it's going to start to slide down the charts. Everything does eventually! OI's been out there since early January! It's been 3 1/2 months since it debuted on the radio. It's had a very nice run. And of course it hasn't jetted up the charts like Daughtry's "Home" is. "It's Not Over" built slower than "Over It" did initially. But now that Chris had a multi-platinum album and a Top 5 single (#1 in Pop airplay) under his belt...of course all of these stations are going to add it immediately. But you know what? Kat's second single will be added quicker too because now they know there's an audience out there for her. Maybe it won't rocket up like Chris because she doesn't have the double-platinum record but it'll be a faster build than it was for Over It.
As for the second single. I don't have a problem with Each Other at all. I just think it would be odd to follow up Over It with another midtempo song. Albeit this one more in the R&B vein compared to Over It's Pop vibe but...here's the good thing about Each Other. It's a really good song for her to perform live. It was her best song at AOL Sessions. I worry about her doing Open Toes. When you listen to just the audio of that from AOL Sessions...it's a little rough. And it's interesting to me that she isn't going to sing OT in Toronto.
I'm holding out hope for Not Ur Girl but....I could live with Each Other. Anything but Dangerous is fine with me.
