I don't know if anyone knows about this, so I'm going to post it on here!!!! I was so excited when I found out!! I was just on Napster and I typed Chris Daughtry where it said artist, so I could download his album. His album wasn't there yet, but out of curiosity I typed in Katharine McPhee. Her album was there, but so was another album that I didn't know about. It was released last year. The title of the album is called A Tribute to Katharine McPhee. It has some of the songs that she sang on American Idol. The songs on it are: Black Horse and the Cherry Tree, Think, Someone to Watch Over Me, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Bringing out the Elvis in Me, I have Nothing, Can't help falling in Love With You, My Destiny, Who Wants to Live Forever, and The Voice Within. The songs were sung by the original artists, but I think it's really cool that Calvin Records put that together for her.

I think this has been discussed before. Apparently it's a trap for unsuspecting fans, and those recordings are sung by unknowns.

Yes, this has been brought up here before (quite a long time ago)--and it's something to be warned of...even though tributes always have some merit to them. In this case, though, the girl singing on this (yes, it's one unknown and ultimately mediocre female singer) doesn't sound a tenth as good as Kat. Plus, the arrangements are subpar compared to the originals. If you listen to the samples over at Amazon, you'll notice this right away. 'Black Horse' alone is arranged very oddly here. Of course, they couldn't use the original arrangements, because 'AI' wouldn't be caught dead loaning out their arrangements to something like this. I've checked in on this CD periodically to see if anybody's given it a review--and there's never been one. That's because most people have probably been spooked by the samples and how bad they are. Undoubtedly, a lot of people came in thinking this was Kat herself singing studio versions of the songs she did on there. We can only wish we had those (as 'AI' does this year)--but we'll only have the audio of the original performances until Kat might decide to record some of them later. Apparently most people put two and two together pretty fast and are aware some indie record companies put out these "tribute" CD's to various artists--utilizing third-rate studio singers who likely will never be artists in their own right. Frankly, I find this to be a cheap way of profiting off an album by using the original artist's name in the title. Notice they don't put the name of the tribute singer's name on the front, which I find to be near criminal and exploitive of that singer. Hopefully that singer will stop being used and get out from under the wing of that company. I doubt that singer was paid very much just to be mocked either. Somehow I picture Sanjaya Malakar ending up doing exploitive things like this after he's finally voted off 'AI.' (Yes, I have positive thinking that he'll actually be voted off.) At least William Hung had some threads of dignity with his own recording projects (though straddled the line )--and not just being led into a studio so recording studio heads could make a buck off of him anonymously.
