Holy emotional roller coaster, I just watched this 3 times in a row and nearly had a coronary. I still think whoever arranges for her sets her songs up too high, but she belted it like nobody's business, putting so much into the first 2/3 of the song that it looked like she had to stop and just breathe for a couple of seconds before the last few lines.  Still, when she drops down into that soft ending, she comes up with some of the most beautiful sound you'll ever hope to hear.  Break my heart, will ya...

do ya think people are starting to take notice of what we all saw some months ago.

That was an amazing performance...but then, all of Kats stuff is amazing.

BTW my play count on Can't Help Falling in Love (with Bocelli) is getting over 500 (speaking of amazing).. just amazing, amazing .. honestly, I'm losing it again.

 ok last time i posted this, i went for the judges entire quotes, tonight, i will make them brief and i just wish i had their e-mail addresses, i would remind them in an e-mail about what they thought of the Katsters version of "I HAVE NOTHING". well, here goes:

RANDY-"That didn't come close Baby, I'm Sorry".

PAULA-"What happens you tend to fall a little flat when you hit the power notes."

SIMON-"Katharine, very simple, by choosing that song, it is like coming out here and saying I am as good as Whitney Houston, YOU'RE NOT!"

Sorry, everyone, but after watching Access Hollywood tonight and watching a clip of the Carousel charity event and remembering that performance of that same song during American Idol, i just had to remind ya' all of what a massacre she received that night. THEY WERE WRONG AND STILL ARE. and again i will quote from Barbra Streisand from the song she sang in "A STAR IS BORN," "WATCH CLOSELY NOW, ARE YOU WATCHING ME NOW?"   i just love that quote and love the Katster's style and class..............

I liked the American Idol performance better... in the preview this one seemed different but when I heard the whole song I didn't like it as much as I liked it the first time she sang it on Idol.

both performaces of IHN were AMAZING I just prefer one over the other.

 

 

EDIT: Okay nevermind I watched the newer version of IHN a couple more times just now and I really like it a lot now! haha! I like both performances the same and it is very obvious that Katharine is very very VERY talented! Can't wait for her CD to come out!

Did you notice the backup singers smiling and rocking out as did the audience members they showed!? I think they were all really impressed. I think one of the backup singers said something while Kat was singing and she heard her and smiled.... I loved CHFIL love with Bocelli and listened to it over and over again... I think this will replace it for a while. I still am so amazed by her talent and maturity at her age.

Her album can't come out soon enough. If you preordered on Amazon you have to confirm your order due to the change of release date.

Our girl nailed it. She is fantastic.

Groucho...I liked it very much that she did a pause at the final "I have Nothing".....looked straight at the Camera....emoting...emoting....sweating a little....the face...focus on the face and then that sound coming out of her mouth after.....that controlled airy voice....the runs, nothing like Whitney's.....only a real singer can do that. That comes from voice training all her life growing up at home with Mama McPhee, that's the Boston Conservatory and sheer talent....That's Kat! Awesome!

Well, I've already given detailed comment in the other thread in Kat Chat, but there's so many great things to say about Kat's 'IHN' performance last Saturday. It's obvious that 'Access Hollywood' thought it was so brilliant that it just had to be seen on TV sooner or later. I'm sensing that maybe they'll broadcast the whole show on network TV later. It may be months from now when Kat's already quite well-known as our generation's greatest singer, but it'd be a classic performance for the annals of TV history. It's obvious that some producer was hired to tape this entire event, because it had professional editing and camera angles only designed for an intended TV broadcast.

People are saying that Kat just turned and smiled at the backup singers--but I swear I heard them chime in (albeit barely audible over Kat's voice) at one point there. It was either that or they said something to her, because something happened. I thought I heard one note they all sang in unison, which prompted Kat to turn and react to them. It truly was a look of "Hey, I'm in my element...let me finish alone!" Other than that, I think the backup singers were actually used for Barry Manilow or one of the other performers earlier or later...and just happened to be still sitting out there for possible useage.

Yes, Kat's melismas and creative structures of certain melodic lines were just beyond amazing. Every performer should be so lucky to have a spontaneously creative mind like that when performing in front of important people. Kat knows how to turn on the brilliant switch when it's crunch time and has to deliver big time.

I just wish we would have seen more audience reaction from other than Natasha Henstridge and her entourage down front. I wish we could have seen Whitney's reaction while Kat was actually singing. That would have been the prized reaction shot, because you can detect thoughts better than a single standing ovation afterward.

Kat, if you're looking in: Be proud that 'Access Hollywood' showed this in near entirety. You pulled out all the stops musically and knocked everybody over. It's truly one of the greatest musical performances in TV history and deserves to be seen by more people. Thanks for always doing something different to a song every time you sing it. You made this 'IHN' stand alone from the previous 'AI' one--yet equally wonderful.

What did Simon say when Kat first sang THINK...."You took a huge risk and pulled it off. And it was effortless."

Well here Kat took a risk that was beyond huge and so totally nailed it. Biut it was anything but effortless.

Spent the night at work, and read all the reviews on the various forums and gotta admit, finally getting to listen to it, it exceeded all my expectations.

A courageous performance. Kat's voice is back. Man does she have guts. And confidence. Love the ending. Does she just make this up as she goes along or what??

And Maddie, your remarks also went straight to my (now weakened) heart when you recalled Barbra Streisand's lyrics from the song she sang in "A STAR IS BORN" ...."WATCH CLOSELY NOW, ARE YOU WATCHING ME NOW?"  As Carl Sagan might have put it, our "super nova in the making" is made of much of the same primordial stuff that Streisand and Houston are made of, but with a hefty dose of the same elemental talents Julie Andrews has, plus a dash of Carol Channing's goofiness for good measure. IMO, our Kat is truly destined to become "one in a million in the 3rd millennium" ....a star of galactic importance!!!

I think that pause may have been a case of necessity being the mother of invention...or whatever, but it worked. She can do that instant transition from tigress to sweet-little-thing and just have your head spinning because it happens so fast and it's all right on. It's called being many faceted. I'm rambling because my brain is melting because I just watched the video again.
