Idol up date for next season....can't believe who is the apparent first choice to fill Simon's seat! No,it's not Harry Connick Jr. It's Madonna!I don't get it. Also saw Crystal interviewed and she's bummed out because her boyfriend left her......"couldn't take the lifestyle"(?)He didn't even stay for the finale....sad. |

Madonna? I can't see how she would come anywhere close to replacing Simon. That's crazy. I'm not sure who they should pick to replace him but Madonna certainly wouldn't be my pick.
One final thought about Idol in general. Has anybody else noticed the recent domination by guys on Idol has coincided with them allowing instruments? Is this a good thing? Have we had a great singer win the last three years? David Cook's pretty good but Kris & Lee? And it's not even like Kris & Lee bring major entertainment value to make up for their good but not great singing abilities. Certainly not enough to overcome Adam or Crystal for me the last two seasons.
The instruments sounded like a good idea at first but don't they keep telling us this is a singing competition? Doesn't seem like it since they let all the guitar players take over. |

One more thought about Madonna. Would they really go with three women on the panel and only Randy on the male side of things? Or would Kara or Ellen be out the door in that scenario? I'd be all for going back to three judges myself but please NO MADONNA. Thank you. |

Yeah, I think instruments are a bad idea. If you've been watching AI Rewind, you see how mobile ALL the performers were that year, even Daughtry who's fairly stationary now with his guitar. It's not like they really add anything. Probably pretty boy had the most skills, but when he was playing, he wasn't singing. |

A belated congrats to Co for picking Lee! Sorry, but I've been up to my eyeballs trying to finish my project and bring in a few $$$ to pay the mortgage. Not getting a steady paycheck really sucks.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting really sick of Idol pretending to be a talent competition. So You Think You Can Dance makes no such claim...they say they're looking for "America's favorite dancer". So AI should say they're looking for America's favorite singer, a much more accurate description! |

Totally agree,Bill....AI is really a popularity contest with the teen girls voting for the cutest male contestants.
I'm thinking SYTYCD should be called So You Think You Can Cry......like Idol, they kinda take the human interest stories a little too far....it's either Dad has passed away or Dad is put away... for being a gangster !
Also, why do both shows have to showcase the talentless buffoons ...like the guy on rollerblades? The program is not called,SO You Think You Can Make An Ass of Yourself! Why waste our time and not show the auditions of the contestants who can REALLY DANCE? |

Don't you kind of have a feeling it's like people complaining about all the negative stuff on the news, but look what they tune into? (Known as If It Bleeds It Leads) I found all the buffoons mildly entertaining a few years ago when I first discovered Idol, but it got old really quickly. |

The dancing buffoons may be worse than the singing ones. The weird costumes are a given, but then to see these dysfunctional, often obese people writhing around on the stage like they are in the throes of some kind of seizure/jungle fever is totally gross!Definitely time to channel surf or take a bathroom break for me! |

So it appears the same people who've hijacked Idol the last three years are doing it to SYTYCD with this new "eliminate one person per week" deal. It was bad enough that they started out with 6 guys & 5 girls (if you just had to have that sixth guy...they should've added a sixth girl too) and now they've lost three girls in the first three weeks. I suspect the guys will start going now because Ashley & Lauren should survive but...ugh.
Anyway...as for the bad auditions. I'm sure they'd tell you it is just to mix things up. Seeing good audition after good audition does sort of start to look the same after awhile because the majority of the good dancers on the show are contemporary dancers and that can get monotonous at times.
Idol...I really would love to know where the pretty girls who can really sing have gone (Katie Stevens could have been this in about 2012). You need a mixture to make the show interesting. It's become way too much about people playing their guitars, singing alright and everybody being so excited about it. Yeah, Adam Lambert was an exception to that but and sure I like David Cook and I don't mind Lee Dewyze at all but...anyway. |

Lambert only made it as far as he did because he purposely toned down the flamboyance until after the show. I thought he was a, well, i don't know if you could call him a breath of fresh air, but he was certainly something different and had unbelievable pipes. In my humble opinion, he wuz robbed, but that's all water under the bridge. I don't know how to pick winners, I just know what I like. |

Big shake-up on Idol with 2 judges leaving!
It's all over the news that Ellen is leaving and that Kara was fired(?).Randy is staying and one of the replacements will be Jennifer Lopez;the other Steven Tyler.
With all the changes, especially without Simon....do you guys think the show will survive? |

Everybody bitches, everybody watches. Even with lowered ratings they were still drawing incredible millions of viewers. If they had a "new Simon" who could bring his scathing tongue, experience, and lovable rogue quality to the show they'd be fine. They had a mix with the original three that worked, different eprsonalities and qualities. They just need to find that again for one thing. Plus I always thought four judges were too many. and I really wish a few more mature viewers would start voting. let the pretty ltitle boys who can barely sing go home early. |
