There's a lot more talk on another site about this. Am I the only one here who's going to enter?!? Of course, I don't want to encourage any more competition - lol. 

Anybody know of anyone who got picked as a finalist? I wasn't notified.

Pix of Katharine in Ghana and on her way to Burkina Faso to visit the school she helped build. The trip thing must have fallen through, maybe people didn't want to go through the rigamarole necessary to travel abroad.

I wish we could have pictures of her dancing with the tribal elders. That must have been a sight to behold.

I think these may be the same pictures as above, but nice to see she's getting international coverage. I got a little miffed at some of the comments and registered just so I could reply. I think it is asinine to complain about celebrities doing charitable work because they aren't going to solve all the world's problems. So what? I'm sure the kids she did help were grateful. That's just an excuse to do nothing. In addition, Katharine is one of those who does it hands-on and not just by writing checks, which I also think is admirable. Just sign me Proud to be a fan.

"Singer and actress Katharine McPhee has embarked on a charity trip to Africa to help put a stop to the spread of malaria.

The Smash star and her husband Nick Cokas headed to Accra, Ghana on Sunday on behalf of the Malaria No More non-profit organization, for which McPhee is a spokesperson, to distribute mosquito nets to areas most affected by the deadly disease.

They visited a health clinic on Wednesday and attended a special ceremony known as a durbar, a formal gathering of village chiefs and important locals, where they were treated to a dance and drum performance.

McPhee also took part in a school play about a boy who contracted malaria, portraying a doctor in the children's production, and was gifted with a handmade stool by the village's most senior chief."

All they needed to do was contact me. I was totally ready to go through the rigamarole. I think MNM decided they didn't make enough money from people texting $10 to enter the contest. I think it's lousy. They should have thought of a shortfall before advertising.

I'm so proud of Kat and refuse to believe she had anything to do with the decision. She's so generous to fans at concerts - I'm sure this was an extension of that.

But I am really upset at MNM. Doing what you say you will and having a good name are key to sucessful fundraising. I doubt I will give to them again. I'll stick with St. Jude's and Feeding America.

Maybe some of these groups she gets involved with aren't super big and run into money problems? I don't know. I don't think Katharine has anything to do with the minutiae of this stuff. I think she probbly just goes where chance and her heart lead her and leaves the details to everyone else, which is as it should be. There's talent and there's management. Nevertheless, sometimes management doesn't manage very well. She's had things like this happen before, I believe.

I'm going to put this in the Media folder as well, Andrea Mitchell interviews Katharine after her arrival home from Africa. We finally get to see her dancing at the tribe celebration.

Some great new pictures from Africa. Just goes to show you, some people don't need a lot of makeup or a fancy hairdo or the right lighting to look terrific. #4 shows her with a placque at the school in Burkina Faso (I think) reading Gifted by McPhee Outreach. She must have been so proud.
