http://www.sonomanews.com/News-2011...-Sarandon/

The salient points from the article below

"Aline Pimenta loves Susan Sarandon - so much so that she just had to buy items of the actress' clothing from the hit 1991 Ridley Scott film, "Thelma and Louise." Now, the Sonoma resident is hoping to have a chance to meet the star when she comes to Sonoma next week to collect her Lifetime Achievement Award at the 14th annual Sonoma International Film Festival, which runs April 6 to 10 and includes more than 85 independent films and plenty of parties....

"The tribute to Sarandon, followed by a lavish gala at Sebastiani Winery, is the highlight of a long weekend of cinematic events. The festival kicks off Wednesday, April 6, with the sneak peek reception followed by a preview of "You May Not Kiss the Bride," starring Dave Annable and Katharine McPhee in a green card marriage that goes awry."

Great news!! Looks like this may actually see the light of day sometime. Hopefully if Smash gets picked up it will help distribution.

This may be the same thing. I don't have time to read everything right now...

This guy says "if you have to pick a night, pick Saturday" so he seems to think the best stuff will be then. Hmmm. Is the kickoff spot a good place to be? I dunno, just glad to see the movie surfacing somewhere or other.

Even if it goes limited release or direct to DVD, it will still get Kat plenty of exposure via cable, netflix, Amazon, etc.

I was watching a documentary last night and this guy was being ecstatic about how exposure at a film festival got so much attention, and offers of distribution, for his film. Of course he was talking about Cannes, but still...since distribution seems to be the big hangup point for a lot of indie films...

Sneak Preview

Sonoma International Film Festival

Festival Program Director Cevin Cathell introduced "You May Not Kiss the Bride" as not the usual fare of the Sonoma International Film Festival, but she admits that while she was screening the film she laughed so hard she had to find a way to fit it in.  I agree.  Director and Screenwriter Dave Hedden has worked the screwball comedy formula well enough to produce an irresistible "guilty pleasure".

This is the story of a young pet photographer played by Dave Annable who accidentally comes to the attention of a Croatian crime boss in need of someone to marry his daughter so she can remain in the U.S.  After some mob-style coercion, Annabel gives in and promises not to get intimate with the bride, but she proves to be irresistible.  When on their tropical honeymoon the bride is kidnapped, Annabel comes to her rescue and wins her over.

Annabel gives a great performance as the photographer. He reminds me of a more restrained young Jim Carrey with considerable potential for future leads in romantic comedies.

Katherine McPhee is the daughter of the crime boss.  Of course, she is more beautiful and interesting than Annabel anticipates, and she does a fine job of portraying the nice girl who captures the heart of her involuntary groom.

Mena Suvari gives a passable comic performance as the femme fatale photographic assistant who sets her sights on Annabel and refuses to take no for an answer.  She looks great in a swimsuit and has some kittenish fun and some outrageous moments.

Tia Carerre plays the waitress with a heart of gold who helps save their lives and incidentally the marriage.

Kathy Bates gives a predictable but very funny performance as Annabel's mother.

Rob Schneider is fall down funny as Ernesto, the jack of all trades who of course is both the problem and the solution.  The deadpan delivery of outrageous lines and deft physical comedy that have served him so well in other roles also works well for here.  Sometimes, Schneider is so marvelously sleazy you can't take your eyes off of him.

It may be difficult to recognize Ken Davitian of "Borat" infamy because he does not take his clothes off for this role.  Davitian plays the patriarch of the Croatian crime family.

i viewed what I hope is not the final draft as the film could use one more pass through editing to easily shave off 10 or more minutes to perfect the pacing and comic timing. Screwball comedy done right is a wonderful thing.  A funny storyline, a good comic cast, and great sight gags make "You May Not Kiss the Bride" a shining example of the genre with only a few more tweaks. Here's hoping an American distributor will pick it up soon so more can partake.

I rate "You May Not Kiss the Bride" two out of 4 cappucinos and a warm up.

You May Not Kiss the Bride is available for viewing or downloading at     full-free-movie-hd.com         You have to register at the site and they say some of the movies are free , although it also appears there may be some cost . You just have to type in the name and info on the movie comes up. It is the FULL movie. I am always apprehensive about these sites although it appears to be legit.  It went up for viewing on June 11. This may be a chance to view the movie if you are confident registering on the site.  I would be much interested in knowing if someone on our site does try to view or download the movie.

I wouldn't trust any of those download sites. I have no doubt that it's not "legit" in terms of something the filmmakers would support.

No earthly clue Groucho, but AtLongLast over at KMC thinks it might be shown on that British Sky Movies thing. The last we heard, the producers were working on a US distribution deal.

That sounds like a good time--a little bit of buzz building up for Smash Season II, who knows when K and MH's albums will be coming out, and a movie she can plug along with Smash II.

Bride hitting the theaters to not much fanfare (and everyone's names spelled wrong), but still... I keep reading speculation that Katharine's higher profile from Smash helped get distribution. I'm hoping it will spend a day or two at the Star John R near me, because if it gets to a big theater, itwill probably make its way on to the cheapie movie at the mall and I can go see it a couple more times for a buck and see what I missed the first time.

From Variety. At least they managed to spell everyone correctly. And I love seeing that "starring Katherine McPhee"...oops, I spoke too soon, realized as I was typing, but at least they got Annable right. I think.

"Freestyle Digital Media and Hawaii Film Partners Distribution have set an Aug. 31 launch in Hawaii for tropical comedy-romance "You May Not Kiss the Bride" followed by a Sept. 21 opening in the rest of the domestic markets including Chicago, Dallas and Los Angeles.

"Bride," starring Katherine McPhee, Rob Schneider and Dave Annable, is written and directed by Rob Hedden ("Clockstoppers") and produced by Rann Watumull, Gina Watumull, David Jackson and Shauna Shapiro Jackson. Mena Suvari, Tia Carrere, Kevin Dunn, Vinnie Jones, Stephen Tobolowsky and Ken Davitian also star.

"Story centers on a pet photographer forced to marry a Croatian mobster's daughter and spend his honeymoon at a secluded Tahitian resort where the bride is kidnapped."

From the movie's Facebook page, a list of theaters the movie will be released at on Aug 31 (in Hawaii) and Sep 21 (around the country):
Hawaii Theaters August 31st
Pearlridge West 16 - Aiea, HI
Kapolei Theaters 16 - Kapolei, HI
Ko'olau Stadium 10 - Kaneohe, HI

In The Mainland September 21st (also on VOD, iTunes and Amazon)
Rosemont 18 - Rosemont, IL
Forum 30 - Sterling Heights, MI
Aventura Mall 24 Theaters - Aventura, FL
Coming Soon!- Dallas, TX
Burbank Town Center 8 - Burbank, CA
Mission Valley 20 - San Diego, CA
Arizona Mills 24 Theater - Tempe, AZ
Pacific Place 11 - Seattle, WA

And yes, it looks like it will be available for purchase on iTunes and Amazon and Video on Demand. I have a feeling they aren't looking for a big theatrical gross at this point (though they might have done well overseas).

Sterling hts. isn't too far from me but I haven't a clue where Forum 30 is. With luck it might come to the second-run house in the mall behind my house. Then I can go a couple of times for a buck and catch whatever I missed the first time. No, it probably won't be a blckbuster, but at least it will be seen somewhere in the USA. And it will probably hit cable a few months thereafter.

Sorry for being away for so long but real life was churning. So I watched the movie yesterday on PPV and yes it was not a great movie but what I found great was that by far I liked Kat's character and performance the best. So much of it was extremely predictable but it was a fun rainy afternoon of entertainment. But I am glad I saw it here at home as I'm not sure how it would translate on the big screen. On PPV you can accept a lesser set of standards. But Kat was great and it was nice to see her with her old hair again. She certainly is getting it back but I loved the long brunette locks on her.

Definitely rent it .
