Just got home from the Denver AI Concert. It was held at the new Pepsi Center which also holds the Arena Football games. I mention that to give you an idea of how big the place is! Well, it was packed to the rafters!

This will just be a quick review. I'm hoping others who attended tonight's concert from this site took pictures and will post them. My seats were pretty far back and I spent alot of time looking through binoculars. My daughter had a pair of binoculars with a digital camera attached so with any luck, I may have photos to post in the next few days!

Just let me say what many others have before me. All of the Idols were amazing! So much stronger than on the TV show. I'm sure they were also much more relaxed and enjoyed every minute performing for us.

Mandisa, who has an incredible voice and really got the crowd going, started as usual and dedicated her second song to Ace's brother Ryan, who was in the crowd, of course! Everyone went crazy when Ace joined Mandisa on stage...and rightly so.! He was amazing tonight.! You could just see the joy in his face to be perfoming for his home town!  And, the home crowd sure showed him love back! The place was going crazy as he was jumping all over the stage! In the final number (LIA), the others let him sing more than his normal section in the song and even had him come back out for a solo final bow!  As my daughter would say, "He is so Yummy!"

Lisa showed how talented she really is...so much stronger a performer than was seen on the TV show! And she really can play the keyboard!! She and Paris did a great job on TLC's Waterfall. I have to mention that the Denver crowd was in fine voice for all the "sing along" sections of the concert! Especially, the ladies during Mandisa's I'm Every Woman!

All of the performers mentioned how short of breath they were because of the altitude. Denver isn't known as the Mile High City for no reason! Those of the performers who have had  voice training made it through pretty well. Only Kellie and Bucky seemed noticably short of breath and not able to talk much between songs...but they still tried!!!  Chris rocked the house! He is just amazing! He asked if we would all be back to hear him when he comes to Denver again and of course, the crowd went wild! His versions of Renegade and Dead or Alive were outstanding.  I've seen Jon Bon Jovi with Richie Sambora do that song live here in Denver at an outdoor natural arena called Red Rocks. Chris did himself proud on that number!

As for our Kat, well, it was over much, much, much too soon!!! Her set was much shorter than the others (I'm sure because of her being careful with her voice yet). But, what a performer! She is so at ease on the stage and really shows through her dance moves and voice that she is loving every minute of what she's doing! She was still without her hair extentions, wearing her hair straight. She looked luminous! I couldn't decide whether to watch through the binoculars, or watch the screen! Through the binoculars though, she was just glowing!!!  Her voice is incredible!! How many of us will say that again, and again?!!! She sounded different on each song....showing just how versatile she really is! Of course, her crowning glory is SOTR. The crowd was pretty hushed for most of the song (except for when she would pause..then she had to wait for the crowd to hush again) and I was able to hear a lot of runs in her lower range that I had never heard before in any of the recordings we've had a chance to hear. I just love the new ending! As I said, it was over way, way, too soon! Now, just can't wait for her album to come out! We're going to be seeing and hearing a lot more from this talented, beautiful performer! She is so at ease and professional on that stage. It was like she was in her living room (in her bare feet, too) just singing for friends and family. Kat made it look so effortless! Katharine is very easily going to follow in Barbara Striesand's footsteps!

Elliot was very well received and did a great job. He, along with Katharine , have such amazing vocal abilities that really aren't shown off to their full potential in a big arena. I'm sure I'm not the first to mention that! They are incredible and I would go anywhere to hear them again.  I just can't sing her praises and my admiration for her talent enough! She said they all had to drink gallons of water backstage just to keep hydrated! Not only because of the high altitude, but because of the small amount of humidity here. You get dry mouth so very quickly! Ugh!

As for Taylor, well, what can you say!!??!! There wasn't one person seated for his entire set! Everyone just loves him! He is really in great shape physically, because I think any other performer who goes all out the way he does would have been on the floor for sure by the end of the show!

Gee, this really wasn't a short review! Sorry, but like everyone else who reports in, you just have to sing everyone's praises.....and especially, our Kat! Such a classy lady!

They're off to Texas now...God Speed and keep them all safe!

Thanks so much for the review. I'm glad you had such a great time and enjoyed everyone! Apparently Kat showed up at the Limbo concert (Taylor's band that plays after the show) tonight as well so maybe we'll get some pictures from that too!

Thanks for posting your re-cap, Moms4Kat, and so quickly!  As you said, your review didn't end up short at all.  I'll keep an eye out for those pictures your daughter might get for you.  It must have been weird for the Idols at that altitude.
"Haha! I love your comments. You just wait there will be more of Kat in Glasses! ha! I love the pic of Nena in glasses. DID you do that? Clever is so! XX kat"

Thanks, Moms, for the Denver review. I was looking forward to seeing a review tonight from there and seeing how Kat did tonight. I'm sure that little rest up in WA for the holiday weekend helped a lot. It's always avantageous to see her right after a little break--because even a 24-hour rest can make a big difference. But Kat seems to have all her health problems far behind her now. And every performer should have bottled water next to them on stage...performing in Denver or not.

Looking forward to any media you may have gotten--or from anybody else. It sounds like Kat is on a roll now with how she's shaped 'OtR' and hitting that final C# on the "I" note. That was probably her first test in seeing what she could do after getting clearance from doctors to sing more. But it appears three songs will be it for this tour...unless she somehow manages to sneak a fourth one in for the final performances back east.

Yes, I agree with you that ALL of the idols are great performers. They all picked good songs for themselves and have magnetic stage presence. I didn't yell "yes" though when Chris asked if I'd be back to see him perform in Portland next year. I wish Kat would have asked that to the audience--but she's too modest to. She probably doesn't know what form her tour next year will be yet. But I'm hoping it'll be in smaller performance halls that still hold several thousand people. There's plenty of classy performance halls all around the country she could perform in.

Thanks again for taking the time to make comment on the show tonight.

By the way to Sasha: Does Taylor go to local clubs when he performs with his band each night? I guess I've heard he does that--though I don't know how he does that when they frequently have to move on to the next city on the buses the same night...

His band performs relatively often in the same city the idols performed but Taylor only joins them on days when they don't have to travel to the next city that night.  Usually Elliott, Bucky, and Ace show up too and sing on stage with him a bit but this is the first time Kat, or any girl for that matter came, and she only watched, didn't sing.  Some soul patrol were incredibly bothered that she even showed up which is very amusing to me.  Apparently, she stayed in the back with a couple guys, probably because she was afraid of all the Taylor fans who would attack her if she made any physical contact with him

Thanks for the review. I certainly agree that Kat's performance is over way too soon! It seems like she is there and gone so fast. I'm glad you enjoyed the show!

I was there last night too. I don't have much to add to what Moms4Kat said. I wrote a recap to post at MJ's...I tend to avoid the comments there anymore, but it IS a good place to post a recap.

I did get to meet Ace at his personal M&G after the show. He is SO genuine and real. I got to tak to him for a bit about how I knew his Mom. We were there with our 9-year-old daughter, who loves Taylor. We had to buy her a Taylor shirt at intermission. But Ace won her over with his sweetness--he is such a down-to-earth guy.

Would I have liked to get back to meet the others, including Kat? Sure. But we were grateful to get to see Ace. In any other city, he wouldn't have had his own gathering. I wasn't about to ask Kay Young to get me in to see the others (would have been very tacky), and I don't think she could have anyway. The group for the general meet-and-greet seemed much, much smaller than Ace's did.

But I enjoyed very much watching Kat perform and was grateful to get all three songs. She nailed the first two, but the altitude did seem to get to her a bit on Rainbow. I really hope they don't use that as an excuse to snub the Mile High City in future years (as they did in seasons 2, 3, and 4). The Pepsi Center really is a terrific concert arena--one of the best and cleanest in the country.

Interesting tidbit--although we took our 9-year-old daughter to the concert, we left our 6-year-old son home. And our babysitter had been herself babysat back in the day by---ACE YOUNG! She has known him most of her life. She didn't go to the concert, though for some reason.

I obviously didn't mention Kat or any of the other idols when talking to Ace. He really was great.

Thanks for the great review, Moms4Kat!!!!!!

Aaah yes, the thin, dry, high elevation air of the Rocky Mountain West. It can wear anybody out quickly that's not used to it....

Glad to hear they performed well and got lots of crowd support!

I wonder if any of them got time to do some sight-seeing in the Colorado Rockies?

Thanks for your great review. I too felt Kat's set goes oh too quickly. And I agree that "all the idols were amazing" when I was lucky to see them in LA and in San Jose. Don't you feel that we are fortunate to see them at these idol live tours which is just the beginning of their road to stardom!
We are definitely working together -- working on a record together. She sings so magnificently, it's just amazing -David Foster-
